Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
See if something here helps:
http://wiki.maemo.org/Flashing About the charging, sometimes it takes a long time before the charging light starts, and sometimes it needs unplugging and plugging again. |
Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
Happened to me too, use the flasher, it will take you a minute to flash.

Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
I'm also stuck. It says 1 second left but that was 1 hr ago.
I use the software updater. What should I do? |

Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
Give it a few minutes, if you followed the instructions everything should be OK. Good luck. More Info: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_f..._.2F_Windows_7 |

Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
The NSU also got locked up for me showing "estimated time: 1 second".
After one hour of waiting I unplugged the phone, recharged for 30 minutes and then reflashed it with the separate flash software following the instructions given in this topic. Now everything works fine! |

It takes a few minutes to reflash, but it should show you the progress on the computer. Have you managed to use flasher-3.5 as I said? Quote:

All i'm seeing when I press the "u" key was a faint nokia (not totally lit up like the above pic) I'm charging the battery right now. Does it usually vibrates and status light stay on for couple of seconds and the usb icon then disappear. I just did again same thing happen when I enter the file and prompt me to allow. I clicked allow and just saw a flash of cmd window for like 1 sec and disappear. No status of flashing. |

Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
FWIW . . . i got stuck on that "1 second left" in NSU as well, after waiting an hour i unplugged the USB cable, took battery out, put battery back in, plugged USB cable back in, and NSU continued, and now i have the latest FW

Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
I had this problem aswell...stuck at 1 second. I forced shut the update program by task manager in windows. I unplugged the device and tried to start didnt work.
I then saw that the update program gave me a message that i could plug in the device and it would "recover" it....it said this can take up to 15 minutes. I did connect it again and waited about 5 mins and all of a sudden i had a full working n900...updated and all. |
Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
Mine stuck at 1 second remaining and then said "Software update failed"

Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
When I unplugged my phone the four or five dots appeared and it looked like it was going to boot then froze. I removed and reinstalled the battery and it booted the old firmware. I am stuck at 1 second remaining again.

Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
It failed again.

Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
I'd suggest using flasher instead - it seems to be more reliable than NSU.

Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
I used Jayford's instructions and was able to reflash. I lost all of my installed apps but everything else seems to be intact.
His instructions are here http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=470585&postcount=8 |

Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
And if the USB icon doesn't apear anymore (only the dimmed Nokia screen), is it hopelessly bricked? Or is there a trick to get the USB icon back?
|
Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
I got the same 'stuck on 1s problem' followed by the prompt saying the software update failed.
So I'm following jayford's advice in post #8 but I get the prompt getting stuck with this message: "Suitable USB device not found, waiting" I have pressed the 'u' key and see the nokia logo with the USB sign on the top right while doing this. I've tried different usb ports also. I'm using windows vista 32bit... |
Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
I did the update on a friends linux pc, went thru smoothly :)

Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
Same problem here. Nokia Software updater stalled with 1 second remaining for over an hour. I unplugged the cable and the Software Updater crashed. I reconnected and started the updater, but there was no option to recover. Now the Nokia logo appears with no back lighting and it vibrates when pressing U while plugging in the cable, but there is no USB icon in the corner and it chain cycles through the Nokia logo every 45 seconds or so, vibrating each time. Flasher just waits no matter what USB port combinations I try..
I like I have a brick :( |
Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
I've got exactly the same problem here and I am now quite stuck :(
|
Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
Looping like that is usually a sign of a low battery. Try leaving it to charge or charging the battery externally.

Re: N900 got stuck during update (PR1.1)
For those who had the update stall out at 1sec forever and then got the faint nokia logo in an infinite loop: I was in the same situation this morning, then replaced the battery with a fully charged one and viola! I was able to hold down "u", get the usb logo, and use the maemo flasher to reflash the system (with PR1.1-USA) as detailed in various other threads. 5mins later my phone was up and running. I would highly recommend a 2nd battery and battery charger. They are fairly cheap (<$40) online. Not only did it rescue me in this situation, but with my heavy N900 usage, it's helpful to be able to do a mid-afternoon battery swap and immediately be back to full charge.
I suspect the root issue was that while waiting hours for the stalled update, it drained the battery far enough that it was no longer possible to initiate a flash. It appears that those who stalled at 1sec and then ignored the instructions to not remove the phone or power it down during the update fared better because the phone was able to restart while still having enough juice to complete a flash. YMMV. |
