maemo.org server move Friday 15.1 08:00 UTC ->

Hi all,

A heads up on the upcoming server move for the rest of the maemo.org site. That's less than 20 hours away now.

talk.maemo.org is unaffected, as it is on separate servers.

The blog post has the details. But in short expect strange behaviour on the site tomorrow.

This does not impact the repositories, right ?...

(else I need to go home right now and upgrade to PR1.1 :-)

Even if the server change affects the maemo.org repositories (and I don't know if it does), I assume PR1.1 comes from the Nokia repository, not the maemo.org one, doesn't it?

Exactly right. PR 1.1 comes from Nokia directly.

The move will affect the maemo.org repositories (devel, testing and extras). How is not exactly clear, but based on what we saw this morning with tablet-dev (which moved just as the PR 1.1 images were uploaded) it seems that the akamai cache can make the move invisible.

Might have been, there was a problem yesterday with connections, and last day activity to make the transition smooth.

wiki.maemo.org and garage.maemo.org are now down.
Also no more logging in to the maemo.org site itself.

As said before, no impact for talk.maemo.org

Yes just noticed in the logs by Niels and Ferenc.
Should come back up really soon now.

Apparently akamai and a slow moving DNS change don't mix too well.

I'm told this was just fixed.
I can't verify, as my DNS is still pointing to the old ip number :)

I think we are pretty much done.
Some things need fixing, but the site seems to be pretty much there.

I would like to thank Niels and Ferenc for doing an insanely long and great job today!

Re: maemo.org server move Friday 15.1 08:00 UTC ->

Except for that the repositories just started suffering from a problem called 'last mile acceleration'. Akamai is being helpful and opening the packages.gz files on the fly, which confuses the application manager and apt-get.

The visible result is an error in trying to update any repository.

Incident has been reported. Hope akamai reacts quickly.

Thanks guys!

Still waiting to see the site come back up here in Canada, getting the "maintenance break" message still.

I just made my first brainstorm - and compared with previous experience of using the beast, it's running like.. like an n900 on PR1.1!!! Smooth, efficient and a pleasure to use. Thank you!

Congrats on what looks like a successful move!

Thanks for all the positive reposes.

There are still a few issues to solve for repository, builder and Downloads updating. But we are getting there.

As I've been working on this for almost 15 hours today, I think it is time to call it a day :)

Please leave comments about non working services here or in bugzilla. I'll continue to work on this tomorrow.

Trying to promote my FM Boost hack to testing (via this page) I get a weird error:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 104857600 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 72 bytes) in /mnt/netapp/pear/midcom/lib/midcom/helper/_dbfactory.php on line 487

I can't seem to upload anything to the fremantle repository; when I attempt to upload a 26 meg .gz file; I get:

Upload error, no repository selected!

I've tried several times; using the interface and it uploads forever then gives me that error message.

Nathan
P.S. Thanks for fixing the promotion interface, I was able to finally promote 3 of my packages!

The file size limit was too low. I've increased it. Does it work for you now?

This one doesn't work http://maemo.org/packages/package_in.../0.8.1-3maemo1 although it's "Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /mnt/netapp/pear/midcom/lib/midcom/services/auth.php on line 1118"

Can't reproduce. Has X-Fade done something? :)

The repositories are still not working for me. Here's the IP number I get when I look up repository.maemo.org:

Is that wrong?

Probably well known, still... The Chinook and Diablo builders do not work. For Chinook I got an error that the builder cannot contact repositories.maemo.org. Diablo builder never answered at all.

I have the same ip for repository.maemo.org on all internet connections available to me. Server seems down, no ping. I do not know if this has anything to do with the server migration.

Does anyone have a working ip for repository.maemo.org?

We seem to have lost several machines in the backend. Including repository.maemo.org.
The ISP has been informed and they are looking at it.

I tried to download MaStory, but it failed. This must have caused by this server move. I hope everything will be all right by tomorrow.

Partially yes. The machine hosting the repositories failed. The issue has been noted and is being worked on.

Saturday evening is not the best time to find people.
I hope that the issue can be resolved fast.
