What would you like to see in the next update?

Thanks to PR 1.1 I love my n900 even more it solves most or even all reboot issues :) ... I know some people are having problems after the update but lucky me it has been running very smooth! This is a Huge update I think this is the update that should come pre-install with the device when it came out. Anywho enough with the rant.

So what do you guys want or think the next update bring to the table?

Here's my list:

1.Virtual keyboard for portrait web, and Ovi Map

2.Better Ovi Map features at least as good as 3.0

3.Portrait Conversation w/ t9 keyboard

4.Stability

5.Better or New Media Player! with eq, visualization, skin, all that good stuff. This phone has 32GB of memory its made for entertainment so i expect it to have solid music/video capability. Take walkman on SE phone for example :)

5. Better photo management/viewing ( has anyone use cooliris? that's what I want to see)

6. Tabbed Web Browsing?

Well it sounds almost impossible but its ok to dream right? :D

btw when do you think the next update will be out?

nickt 2010-01-15 06:25

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

1.) Equalizer

2.) Fix bug in Modest that randomly captalizes "INBOX".

3.) Portrait messaging w/ t9

4.) Facebook/Myspace chat integration w/ messaging (someone will probably write a plugin for this if they already haven't.

5.) View all songs when there are multiple albums for an artist, instead of "shuffle songs".

6.) Get rid of the little visualization animation in the bottom right corner of the media player? What exactly is the point of it?

7.) Support for google maps, whatever this would entail. Java?

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

I want to have voice command and attach to bluetooth.

Currently when I want to make a phone call from car, I will need to stop first to dial. Previously using Nokia E90, I just need to press a button and speak the name of the person that I would like to dial, and it will automatically dial.

Very convinient.

6. tabbed web browsing -> its already in Firefox now if you download it but its slow though.

7. More Zoom in and Zoom Out in the other application (Photo applications) not only in the Web (using finger)

I use it, I like the function but I cant stand that it blocks icons while in the player. if there was a useless function it's the massive shuffle button on the home screen.

I never use widget. Normally i add songs from artist view to playlist and then tap back to player view and minimize it. I think that multitasking has nothing to do with this feature or i do not understand you.

I agree that its blocking stuff from corner when in artist view.

winamp was very good...

..in 1991. now it's hideous!

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

Haha, oh, so that's the point of it. I can't believe I hadn't tried tapping it before. Not so bad.

Wish there were some hardware controls for the media player on this thing. I miss that in my n96.

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

I'd like a better calendar. There are so many things the built-in one doesn't that I'm looking for an alternative. I was debating opening a brainstorm on "Ways the calendar could be improved".

Other than that, I'm very happy. :)

Would GPE Calendar a good fit? I haven't tried it on the N900, but on the N800 it was not too bad (in fact I used it intensively without too many troubles), even though its interface was a bit awkward at moments.

tangsirics 2010-01-15 09:01

And of course everything my signature contains, especially the things in red.

benny1967 2010-01-15 11:30

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

1) syncml via http (the way syncevolution does it)

4) fully functional portrait mode in conversations, microB, media player and mail.

5) text2speech on par with S60 (speak out caller's name, read SMS and mail)

6) voice dialling and voice commands on par with S60 (no need to record audio tags, just speak and device will understand. device will also get trained to understand you better the longer you use it.)

7) support for 3G video calls

8) support for java (so i can run http://www.qando.at/)

9) support for more profiles

10) define ringtone per contact

11) define groups

I hope in the next update are no new bugs :)

jcompagner 2010-01-15 12:09

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

1> imap-idle support
2> voice dialing
3> maps up to the Ovi maps 3.0 standard of S60 (but if sygic works perfect i dont mind this point)
4> a msn protocol that is really working (i have various issues with the 3 that are now there)

if you need more points then i can make many for just 1 application: Modest (point nr 1 is already a modest issue)

1> send mail button totally on the wrong place need to scroll to top again!
2> still slow but not always, very weird then my gmail inbox shows within 1 second and the other time it takes 4-5 seconds..
3> when opening a email directly from the task manager i cant delete it! (button is disabled)
4> if i delete an email through the inbox, it goes to the next mail. dont want that, always go back to the list.
5> when there are multiply new emails (over different accounts) selecting it in the task manager just brings you to the accounts view of modest (or i think the screen where you last where on). So where are the new emails?? (accounts view should also have a unread number printed there)
6> best thing would be if there are new emails that we have a global new email inbox:

subject | sender | account
xxxxxx | yyyyy | account1
aaaaaa | yyyyy | account2

that we can open/read/delete.
and when it is read it is gone from this view.
If we have such an inbox then we could make a unread mail widget that reads that same info...

7> show a little bit more info if possible in the inbox screen, now we see:
subject time
sender

i think something like:
subject sender time
1 or more lines of the email

Also the font can a little smaller (for me) so that it can display more
I find it very weird that on the E90 with profimail i could display way more on the outer screen! then on the N900..

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

1) conversations, one handed operation/typing

2) Voice calls

3) Proper media player with proper codec support. Fix network playing of files, allow seeking per X minute intervals (a la PS3)

4) Samba/FTP support, so the phone can appear as another computer in my homegroup or local network

5)USSD/Video Call (SIP/Skype and Cellular), MMS

6)Contacts grouping

7) Option to export to single VCF file for backup/restoring

8) Voipbuster support natively, so I don't have to go through generic SIP and then disable a certain service/file.

jorjino 2010-01-15 15:39

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

1. At least two more Profiles - i.e. Home, Presentation...
2. Voice commands for calling, starting programs.
3. Better photo viewer.
4. Simultaneously call and Internet browsing/downloading without stop.
5. Video call with Skype
6. 5 way desktops - left, right, up, down.
7. organizing apps in folders, but the folders should be configurable by the user.

And of course - no bugs.

Laughing Man 2010-01-15 15:42

Re: What would you like to see in the next update?

Pulseaudio fix so you can actually use the network streaming (basically the ability to route audio to and from other computers that use pulseaudio). This would mean you could route the audio from a computer that uses pulseaudio to the N900 and vice versa. You could also route the audio from a phone call to your computer's speakers if this was implemented correctly.

**Self edited** My bad, didn't see the check box for this.

Quote:

To be able to select "Call with SIP account xxxxx@sip.whatever.com" when viewing a contact.

Seems the only way to call a contact via a VOIP account (other than skype) is to select it in phone mode and manually dial their number.
Good job so far. Loving the phone and the software and knowing it is getting better is half the fun.
