UK 3 network and vodafone
I'm afraid to say that after being on vodafone for the last few weeks whilst the sim issue has been resolved on 3, the reception on 3 is nowhere near as strong as that on Vodafone!
Anyone else noticed this? I have just a had a good chat with vodafone re their 500mb limit. They were convinced 3 gave the same but 3 in fact allow 1gb of data - just checked, before they slow the service down or charge per mb. Vodafone are putting in a plan change request to maybe offer the same or allow an upgrade to 1gb for a small extra charge - like £5 per month which I think is acceptable. I am going to test my download usage for a month with everything on as the n900 intended to see if I go over. Vodafone are keen to learn how much of an issue this might be for phone like the n900 as they are now selling them. If you want the same, suggest giving them a call. I can see video downloads, app downloads and use of Napster and internet radion could soon blow 500mb tbh. |
Re: UK 3 network and vodafone
So you've rung them and asked for an upgrade on the 500mb limit? I'm with Voda and I really think 1gb is neccessary...
I'll pay £5 for it if they'll do it for me! I did the firmware update ota via 3g yesterday - that's 90meg gone already. I listen to the radio online with it all day everyday during the week... I need more data!!! |
Re: UK 3 network and vodafone
Please keep us updated, one of the reasons i am holding off is to wait for Tmobile to get contracts up and running again. I heard the Data limits were much better. My flat mate is on vodafone and has brilliant reception where i live so this could be an option, IF Voda take heed and listen to their customers

Re: UK 3 network and vodafone
Vodafone UK do have their own forum so it may be worth registering and adding your response to one of the existing threads on the 500MB limit. I fully agree that it's too low for a device like the N900 but currently Vodafone don't agree and claim there are no plans to up the limit.
Irritatingly, if you take an Iphone you get a 1GB limit instead... John |
Re: UK 3 network and vodafone
I`m with 3 and I love it.Sure the reception is bad (especially in Kent and North London area) but you can`t beat 1gb of data for 15 pounds a month (plus unlimited texts and 300 minutes). Also, you are not stuck with a contract.I got the N900 from gumtree for 350, a sim only from 3 with no strings attached and I`m a happy camper!

Re: UK 3 network and vodafone
I agree with JohnMcL7 join the voda forum or ring them directly - I spent about 15 mins chatting through with someone english - that'd never happen on 3 either!
They currently don't offer over 500gb but that takes the p if the do on Iphoney |
Re: UK 3 network and vodafone
Its 500 meg Fair use policy. This is not the same as a "capped allowance", in reality they do not hold you to this. I have many times gone over 500 (actually over 2 gig one month) and they are not bothered,
The worst case scenario is they send you a letter saying "please don't take the piss so much". Just for the record I have never had one of those letters! The Iphone 1gig is actually worse because its a cap therefore as soon as you go over it you are paying more. MB |
Re: UK 3 network and vodafone
Vodafone said they slow down the connection over 500mb.
Vodafone online is faster than 3 too. Think might go back to the V sim and try it on full pelt for a month and see what happens. |
Re: UK 3 network and vodafone
Hi,
1) i have never noticed this and I log everying lol 2) they offer over 500 meg, its 15 quid a month for 3 gig, MB |
Re: UK 3 network and vodafone
really??? Not according to the guy I spoke to earlier. Maybe you have a discontinued tariff or the cant do that to sim only deals??

Re: UK 3 network and vodafone
i ditched 3 and went with vodafone when i got my n900 because i wasn't prepared to wait for a fix from nokia.
my total data used over vodafone since november has been 220mb. and voda give me a better signal and a more reliable data con. i leave everything online/logged in all the time. but my heaviest use is at home =wifi, here in the cafe I'm sat in = free wifi. but all day at work it is on vodafones network since there is no eap-leap support. so i think i'm going to be ok with the 500mb cap. sure i *could* blow it easily, but my usage means i can do big transfers over wifi fairly eaisly. |
Re: UK 3 network and vodafone
Hi,
the problem may be that im a business customer so there are different deals, The 15 quid a month is a taffif to allow you to use your phone as a dongle and mobile internet ( but of course you can do this normally with 500 meg). The dipshit sales staff may not realise its there as its an account addon not just a addon to your tarrif. Hope that helps! MB |
Re: UK 3 network and vodafone
Hmm, I might see if I can have unlimited internet which is £5 a month removed from my tariff if I recall correctly then just pay the £15. I'm well over this month and have got a week till month end... will let them call me first, but I use internet radio at work. It did 4mb in 10mins... 8 hours a day blows it quickly!!

Re: UK 3 network and vodafone
I have been using O2 payg sim w/ data. With the p1.1 update I just used my free 3 sim for the first time. PAYG 10 pounds for 150mb for 90days, then call 444 for add on and they will give you 1GB/ 30 days for 5pounds of the 10 I just paid leaving 5pounds for call.
But... where I live, N London, the connection keeps getting lost in my house, not a problem with O2, so I may can the 3 sim after I get my money's worth and re-topup my O2. |
