Super Mario Wars on N900
Hey, guys. It would be great if we had this nice little game on our tablets... It is open source and there is already a Linux port so I think it would not be hard to compile. If I was a developer I would do it but I am not - I am studying construction engineering. Anyway here is the link to the game:

Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
Yeah, would be nice!
|
Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
Oh, I haven't heard anything about this before. Great Idea! :)
|
Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
All kinds of copyright violations going on there, though. It's not maemo extras capable.
That said, it looks fun. :) |
Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
If any of you enjoy making bitmap graphics, this could be legal with new graphics (derivative even) and a different name (not including Mario(tm))
|
Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
doesnt have to be maemo's extra capable..:p
regarding the legality...same can be said for emulators...so i wouldnt worry bout that.why should maemo community be bothered when its available for every other community out there??? |

Unless someone steps forward willing to create new artwork, this isn't going to end up on many N900s. Since the graphics and name would have to be changed anyway, this would be an opportunity for someone to make a Maemo-themed game... |
Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
When I was using N810 I had that game on the device...
|
Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
Do you still have a source/deb?
|
Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
*cough*
http://maemo.org/downloads/product/OS2008/smw-bin/ But yes it will never be in extras. in this case it's someone else's repo. not sure if it will work on n900 due to changes between maemo OS. |
Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
It's in Extras for the N8X0, yes. I was unaware of the issues surrounding its legality when I promoted it... But it has been a year and I haven't been stamped on by Mario outside my home. :)

Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
Is it possible to update it for Maemo 5?

Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
so u had no problems on older maemo...whats the difference? seems fairly hippacritical opinion to have...your choice.hey ho free world and all.
cant believe we are starting to see censorship so early on with this device! hopefully someone else will compile it for us...thanks anyways i take it the version already in extras will be removed then??? seeing as a maem 5 version will not be allowed to be hosted there? |
Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
Its hosted on google code as a project and has had no issues

Besides, do you really think it would pass extras-testing? There was no extras-testing for Maemo 4. http://wiki.maemo.org/Extras-testing...d_legal_issues |

Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
did it actually run ok on N800 ?
the requirements look a little harsh for a internet tablet. # Processor: Intel or AMD @ 1.2 GHz or Higher |
Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
could always compile for n900 and host elsewhere??
other folks have software on their own repo's...:p doesnt have to be on extras repo as stated earlier |

Let me redirect your attention to The Rule. |
Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
I'm not saying that its illegal or legal as I don't know.
But it is a fan made game and it is hosted on google code where Nintendo can put forward take down notices also the game has been around for quite a few years. |
Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
exactly my point!
what he's saying is that its ok for other maemo platforms to have as long as we keep quiet about it! i'm not really a gamer as such, so wether it comes or not..not bothered! now i dont need reminding of the rules.. if this thread has broken them, by all means delete it? my posts have done nothing wrong! |
Re: Super Mario Wars on N900
I'm not saying keep it on the 'down low' but it is something to keep in mind.

Google can and will take down that code without a moment's hesitation if Nintendo gives them notice. It clearly infringes their IP: trademark (Mario) as well as many copyrights (a lot of the game content is directly ripped from Nintendo titles). You could think of it this way: Nintendo already gave notice to Maemo/Nokia. Anyway this thread is not going anywhere productive, so i am going to close it. If someone wants to port "Maemo Wars" as an IP-clean game, i'll be happy to support their effort and add a note to this thread to point interested people to their thread. |
