Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

If so, post which method you used (OTA / flasher) and what you had installed.

I'm looking at doing a PR1.1 update on a fresh-out-of-the-box US model N900 and wanted to get some idea of other people's experiences.

Sure.. OTA and i had a lot of aps installed.

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

I had, updated OTA, didn't have to uninstall any application. Then, for cleanliness' sake, I reflashed through flasher, on an ubuntu stick (couldn't get it to work with windows 7). I had plenty of applications from Extras, Extras-testing and Extras-devel.

updated here ota, all good had too many apps to list :)

having better batt life here also :)

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

I had a clean update through the update manager. I did however have to first reboot my device so it would free up enough rootfs space to download the upgrade though.

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

Did a backup first, then PC Suite upgrade followed with restoration, did lose a couple of apps, otherwise doing fine, so far. Had about 40 apps re-installed by restoration, all did well.

I guess, doing OTA, you would not have to restore, is that true. I got message that required I do a USB PC suite, I guess I have too many apps from Extras test and Extra devel.

Mine was fine with over the air, no problems at all, I did not have any apps installed, and was performed out the box vodafone unit

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

As far as I know, FOTA upgrade has not brought any problem, NSU has. I upgraded my firmware OTA and all works well, without losing anything.

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

Mine didn't work OTA.. I think because I had alot of extras-devel and extras-testing applications. I also had some modifications on system files.

OTA, no problem.

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

Almost without problem OTA on French (azerty) version, OS in english.

Almost 'cause I tweaked the main menu before update and now the order of shortcuts is reversed ^^
Not a big deal.
Good luck.

OTA ... Wifi at t'internet cafe ... worked just fine ... I should have taken book tho, as it took a long time to update the system, and I was already bored from waiting for the 90mb download ...

System files mods aren't a problem for FOTA, I've actually done many of them and had no problems. Your problems are the devel apps you installed, many of them are not optified and take a lot in your rootfs. I had to check my free rootfs space before upgrading FOTA (if I remember right you need about 45 free MB). If you have problems in obtaining free space in your rootfs, there's a simple method consisting in reinstalling Python libraries (recently optified). You should gain about 10% of your rootfs back. Search on the forum, if you have problems just ask, I've done that without any issue.

That's what I did. The how-to is in the Wiki and pushed me over the 45b free space. I have few apps from outside the approved ones, just the Matrix theme (deleted before and re-installed after), Wii control and cbrPager. I think the Nintendo emulators were already optified.

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

Reboot loop and reflash after failed FOTA due to large amounts of unstable software from -devel and -testing. ;)

So, don't worry.

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

OTA ... Wifi at home no problem updating.

No major problems afterwards, also a lot of apps installed.

Only the theme from OVI-store (green music one) is changing like a miracle to the blue water one every time I turn off the N900 ...

jdr93 2010-01-16 15:41

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

yes. ota. had to clean out some space for the 90mb. hitchless after that.

Brunorange 2010-01-16 15:42

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

OTA (wifi at home) no problems what so ever. Had/have a good number of apps installed, mostly extras, Ovi and some extras-testing.

OTA, no problem whatsoever. All my setup and customization stayed intact, phone is as rock-stable as ever.

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

If you read and follow the advice on the Wiki page and in the threads here, you should have no problem. Enough free space, uninstall the problematic stuff (vpnc etc.) if necessary, and there you go.

bunanson 2010-01-16 16:30

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

Is it true, OTA, you do not need restoration, i.e., everything stays there? Apparantly, I am the only one went with USB PC Suite, I did endup doing a restoration, it was trouble free, it just took time, about 30 min somethings to re-install all 40 apps. Interesting though, during the re-installation, it asked 2 times that some apps are 'not good...' or 'troublesome...' or something like that, I just pressed continue. Apparantly if I took note on these 2 apps, I maybe able to do OTA next time. Oh well... no harm done, I just kind of feeling being left out after browsing this thread :(

The apps I ended up doing manually are

emelfm2
Garnet VM
DiskUsage

and have to redo my bootup video too.

Absolutely did for me. All my apps, shortcuts, setup, calandar, contacts and other customization like the flyby boot video - everything is still there exactly as before. Very smooth update.

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

NSU, I downloaded some extra devel -applications in the beginning. One reboot just after the NSU and I was only missing nokia messaging in Modest after restoring the back-up. All of the rest was fine.

A day later I had to reboot again, media not found, even applications (web) failing to start. No problems since.

Overall: OK.

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

OTA, in the bus.. with many devel apps.. (including my memory messy experiments with widgets)
.. at the end.. everything A.O.K.
ps: some desktop widgets were disabled but clicks and I was a go again!
ctrl+shift+o for portrait mode on the browser (which is wayy faster) rocks!
Also.. I may have noted a significant battery improvement!
(Yesterday I had 22 hours of battery life including many HDSPA/wifi/youtube sessions..)

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

I flashed mine with flasher. OTA wanted me to connect to PC Suite. As I don't use WindBlows, I flashed it the easy way.

Flash went smooth as silk, and don't have any issues... well.. the phone doesn't have any issues, can't really that that about myself though. :D

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

Yes, it was fast and painless. The key was I made sure to disable all non-Nokia repositories before starting. Maybe something that should be done by default, because if something's gonna break, it's better to break 3rd-party apps than it is to break the OS.

Rob1n 2010-01-16 17:14

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

Updated OTA (twice now, as there's still only the 42-11 firmware downloadable for UK) without any issues.

Re: Anyone had a problem-free PR1.1 update?

yup, me..did it OTA...just like 44-1...and it went flawlessly, i'm impressed ! It even didn't change my desktops at all...
