Maemo repository access broken

I have been trying to find an contact to report this to for some time but it seems nowadays that it is practice not to disclose any contact info on popular websites...

The Maemo repos (extras, -devel & -testing) are denying access to the from my N900. The N900 log says:
"<path to repo> 401 Unauthorized [IP: 93.158.110.210 80]"

That means my source IP (in Finland) is blocked. Bad geolocation data maybe?

Where do I report this error?

Bugzilla works best.

But I'll send a request to our network people. This is a classic error from the export control infra. Means that someone broke a server somewhere, and that reflects badly on maemo.org :(

Also if the situation changes, please tell so.

We (AS3238) have seen this issue on other large sites as well, which is why I suspect geo errors. I might be wrong, but I would _really_ like to know what the problem was.

Would appreciate if your guys would drop us a note to our NOC regarding the nature of the problem.

Thanks,

Absolutely.

Re: Maemo repository access broken

Is there any solution to this problem yet?

I probably use the same mobile network in Finland as JEE and face the exact same error message.
"<path to repo> 401 Unauthorized [IP: ...."

If I run through a Swedish proxy it works fine, it's just a bit annoying.

Re: Maemo.org repos down?

I think it's related to this server move:

Dear Visitor,

maemo.org has a maintenance break. We are moving the servers to a new hosting provider.
We should be back online in a couple of hours, depending on the DNS propagation changes.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Re: Maemo.org repos down?

How is that possible? Maemo.org repositories are the same for all of us, and I've just updated them in my app manager (without any error). This is something weird...

Re: Maemo.org repos down?

The repositories are being served through a CDN (akamai). This is basically a large group of servers all over the world. You connect to the one that is closest to you.

You will never connect to the origin servers, only the CDN edge servers will do that.

It will take a while before all these servers have the updated IP. Once that happens, all should be well. This should not be very long anymore.

Re: Maemo.org repos down?

Working now... seemed i had to "force" it, by downloading the package i wanted from the pages in maemo.org/downloads, rather than through the repo....

working now anyway.... :)

tho downloading the "Decoders Support" didnt fix the problem i have with a .mpg file that wont play.... even tho it played before update!

Re: Download of apps failed?

It's because the repositories are down, you can add mirror to your list of repositories if you want.
http://espejo.freemoe.org/
I added the extras one, because I had to download leafpad.

E: Like this, if you are not sure..

The machine hosting repositories crashed some time ago due to a NFS failure.
It has been communicated to the ISP.

We hope to have repositories online again soon. However Saturday evening is not a good time to get hold of people.

You just need to use the link ,copy it to the app managers source thingy. (The both links are the same.)

fatalsaint 2010-01-16 18:23

Re: Download of apps failed?

deb gives you the actual package to install and use the application.

deb-src gives you the source package to build the application.

99.99999999999% of the people are going to just need the deb one ;).

Can't get software update!

Today I was trying to get fresh sofware available for my N900 but after refreshing the system says that some catalogues are not valid: maemo.org and maemo Extras. Well, that is a new situation for me as I did nothing and do not know how to solve that. Maybe some temprarily problem on server? Please help.

I've been trying to get to repository.maemo.org all day without any luck. Seems to be a server problem.

i believe that the servers are down.

Failed Application Catalogues

I have just discovered that none of my maemo catalogues (maemo.org, maemo extras-devel and maemo extras-testing) are working. In the list of Application catalogues I get messages for each saying failed to refresh. Tried switching device on and then off but that didn't solve the problem.

Not sure if this is as a result of the firmware update. I doubt it because the catalogues were working fine till this evening.
