New N900 blues
Hi folks: My first time on this forum.
Just received my brand-new N900 yesterday. It is intended to replace my Palm TX as well as my cell phone. I installed Nokia PC Suite - v 7.1.40.1 (the latest, I hope). I have the phone connected to my computer (Windows XP) with a USB cable. I get the following error messages: Nokia N900 USB connection in a non-compatible USB mode Or Unfortunately your device is not fully supported by Nokia PC Suite 0r Nokia PC Suite Nokia N900 USB device connected in a non-compatible USB mode. There are other issues as well, but I figure if I start by correcting this one, the rest may follow. Any insightful suggestions, anyone? Thanks! |

Have you selected "PC Suite Mode" upon connecting the device? (on the n900 screen you have two modes after you insert the usb cable: Mass storage and PC Suite) Quote:

Re: New N900 blues
Yes, this is a known and solved problem. All you have to do is find that file as downloaded and right-click it and select Properties. Then you will find a category called Compatibility. Pick something like Windows XP Serviice Pack 3 (that's what I picked) and it will work fine.
This should be on a FAQ here somewhere, I would hope. (I'm assuming you are running Windows 7.) Perhaps the other comment is correct, too. It was so easily solved I didn't pay much attention. |

Re: New N900 blues
i had the same problem, have you restarted your PC? (and the phone maybe too).

Re: New N900 blues
I can successfully connect N900 to Nokia PC Suite using Windows XP SP3. I believe I have the latest version, too (I have upgraded fairly recently).
Have you checked you selected "PC Suite mode" on N900 when connecting USB cable? If you hit "Mass storage" you'd get similar message from PC Suite. PS Oops... Just noticed someone already asked the question. Can the OP reply? |
Re: New N900 blues
OK, folks: It is one of these times that I feel really DUMB. :o
If the phone is switched "on", everything is OK. If it is not, the error messages in my OP appear. Thanks, all for your interest in helping a newbie! |
Re: New N900 blues
What is the software version you're using? (Settings/About)
In versions before the current (2.2009.51-1) the phone didn't "wake up" when USB cable was connected, so couldn't go to PC Suite mode. I am assuming that by "on" you mean "screen on". If your phone is powered off completely, it should be fairly obvious it won't work... Try updating to the latest software in Application Manager. PS I have filed a bug against the latest software as I do not think that plugging in a USB cable with screen off should wake up the phone. It should just start charging, as it was (often, but not always) the case in the previous versions. ;) |
Re: New N900 blues
I have updated to version 2.2009.51-1.002 after my original post in this thread.
And "on" means (to me) that the unit is powered up. Thanks, everybody, for this discussion. It has been very helpful. I do have another problem: when the phone is "on", and I push the power button, it does not always switch "off". However, I'll call Nokia tech support, and if they can not resolve this, I'll ask this forum in a new thread. Thanks again!! |
Re: New N900 blues
Hi All,
I have the latest phone software version and the latest pc suite version however I am still getting "Unfortunately your phone is not fully supported...." |
Re: New N900 blues
That's what I am still getting as well.
I tried to contact Nokia using their web mail format (I could not find a "real" email address) but it seems the page freezes the moment I hit "submit" (or whatever word it uses). Either Nokia is not getting my message, or is ignoring me. I suspect that if the programs and hardware were fully compatible, items like "notes" would appear in the menu. So, I guess, we wait for a version of PC Suite which is compatible with the N900........... |
Re: New N900 blues
Yeah, you would think that peace of expensive hardware like N900 would have great software support.....Go figure.
By the way is there any way that we can install new software gadgets, widgets and etc.... Does anyone knows the email for N900 support? Thanks everyone for help on this topic... |
