Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
I have NM set up with my Gmail account. When I send an it reports as being sent (goes from outbox to sent box in the device) but it actually wasn't sent, nor does it appear anywhere in Gmail. Any idea what is wrong? I also have nuevasync set up with the same account, but just for calenders, could that be the problem?

Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
Nokia Messaging + GMail push functionality seems to be broken for me after the major firmware update. I do not receive (push) e-mail notifications anymore. I have to explicitly "send and receive" for it to recognize there are new messages in my inbox. Are you guys experiencing this issue?

Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
I just tried sending an e-mail using GMail (and Nokia Messaging) from my device and had no issues - it moved to the "Sent" folder on the device and was delivered to the address as expected.

Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
I have my gmail account setup w/the native pop3 app...not sure if its the same as what would be downloaded from Nokia w/Nokia Mail, like I did w/ my girl's e71.
Maybe there is something wrong w/the SMTP server settings, or outgoing server credentials/authentication type? Were you ever able to send before? |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
Why can't you set up direct GMail IMAP? It works fine for me. I have NM with hotmail/yahoo but have a direct GMail IMAP.
Also I have Mfe to sync google calendar which did not work before the update. |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
happened to me once as well, i clicked on top to get the menu down and clicked the top right button that sais "send and receive".
after clicking this button, the device actually performed the sending of a written email. it still took a few minutes to receive the email on my gmail-account (oddly enough because i wrote an email to myself from the same account) |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
@msa and Fayez So NM is definitely capable of sending emails via Gmail on the N900. Do you have MfE set up to sync calenders with the same account as well by any chance?
@Colnago No, none of the emails I ever sent with NM ever worked. I don't really know if there's something wrong with those settings, when I try to edit NM I don't find anything relating to that. @milli Does that do push email? |

Also, to answer your question about IMAP direct to GMail, I did a quick Google search and it looks like it does NOT support push... |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
And personally i use mfe because my phone isp block imap data on his network.
Sending works from home. Seems that it use the smtp setting and not mfe for sending |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
I also had trouble with Nokia messaging. Everything worked ok except that I was unable to send emails. The messages would simply sit in the outbox.
I've had to switch to IMAP to get emails sent out and it works fine. |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
I just sent myself 4 messages in 4 different ways here are my results.
Nokia messaging using my hotmail account - no error message went out from phone but has not showed up in my inbox yet and its been about 3 minutes. Nokia Messaging using my gmail account - worked perfectly went into my inbox almost instantly Gmail using the N900 gmail settings for IMAP - worked perfectly only took about 30 seconds or so to show up in my inbox. Failed first time due to my user name being entered wrong in the outbound settings, but after fixing that it worked. Hotmail using Mail for Exchange - message said sent but I do not see it in my inbox yet and its been about 4 minutes. I'll update later to say if the MfE and the Hotmail nokia messaging messages ever show up. Edit: Over 30 minutes later I never got the message from nokia tied to my hotmail address. That is a shame, the mail for exchange message never made it ether but I expected that as I am only use it to sync with a 3rd party server for my calender I dont even remmeber setting up any kind of email service. |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
I have this problem too. Everything works as it should for Hotmail, Ymail and Ovi mail. I receive Gmails as normal but sent items just don't go anywhere.
I do notice when editing the message that the icon just below the subject line is not there when trying to send from gmail. It is for the other three. Tried deleting the entire NM account and setting it up again. No difference! Very frustrating!! |

if we just had imap idle then real push would work for pretty much all imap servers in the world. but nokia seems to focus on there messaging service why they spend time and resources on that is beyond me.... |

As far as Gmail supporting "push", when I had the Droid, and using the built-in "GMail client", messages were received in less than 2-3 minutes, irregardless of the polling schedule. Whether that will work on the 900 side... |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
To those who cannot send messages using GMail account tied to Nokia Messaging account:
checks SMTP server on your Nokia Messaing account. After logging to to email.nokia.com, click on "Edit settings". Then click on button "Email server settings". It should be: smtp.gmail.com, port 465. In my case, smtp related fields were not filled in. Result: emails were sent from Nokia servers but with header set to my GMail address. Side effects: no mails in GMail sent folder, using reply to option was breaking threads. |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
mail servers all fine for me on NM site but still can't send via gmail
|
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
i had the same issue. after reading above i deleted my mfe account (set to sync calendar only) and mail then worked fine.
all i really want is push email and calendar, notes, tasks sync. will focus on reliable mail first anyone have mfe cal sync working ok for gmail alongside nm for email? or indeed finding that mfe sync for gmail is as good or better than nm. am guessing mail is getting confused over two account using same addr. not using imao due to lack of imap idle ie push. |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
Same problem with Gmail and Nokia Messaging. Now solved!!!
When I subscribed the service (2008), I used username and password of Gmail account. Last year I changed the password of Gmail account on Gmail settings and after on Gmail settings of Nokia Messaging. So, there are different passwords for the service (old password of Gmail) and for the account (new password of Gmail). Conflicting passwords? The fact is that on server settings of Gmail/Nokia Messaging, outgoing mail server settings are absent. I tried to add port number and server address, but an error message appeared. So, I deleted the account of Gmail on Nokia Messaging and after I added the same account. Now the outgoing mail server settings are present and I can sent the email. Sorry for my bad english, I hope you understood. |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
I've also had problems sending Mail, but they seem related to the use of mail for exchange... here is what I noted.
When I first got my phone I tried Mail For Exchange with gmail. At first this appeared to work, both calendar and email sync'd but it wasn't until later that I realized I could not SEND email. Mail goes to the Outbox, sits there for a bit with a status of "Sending..." then switches to "Failed". BAD. At that point, I disabled Email sync on the MFE account and added a nokia messaging account to check and send email. Unfortunately, this did not fix the Send problem. When attempting to Send via either account (MFE or Nokia Messaging) the same "Failed" send would result. WTF? I even tried adding a normal pop account for work address but Sending continued to fail as long as the MFE gmail account was enabled. Then in desperation, I tested Neavasync. I have calendar sync set up with Nueavasync, and am finally able to send emails with my nokia messaging account. I never put together a great theory as to why this was happening, but hopefully this story helps someone else out. J |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
I think there are a few different problems all mixed together in this thread.
Mine is: 1) I have Mfe set up to sync my google calendar and tasks 2) I have Noka Messaging set up for 'push' e-mail from my gmail account When I send mail, my N900 tries to send it from both Mfe and Nokia Messaging so nothing gets sent. It seems that if you just have either Mfe or Nokia Messaging set up, sent mail works find. Having both breaks it. Has anyone found a way to just make sent mail go from the Nokia Messaging account? |

and here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...+messaging+mfe With a bug report here if everyone wants to vote for it? http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...+messaging+mfe Possibly the threads should be merged? |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
Hi, I have a similar problem.
I have a blueyonder mail account and a hotmail account set up using NM - they recieve fine but dont send. I have a gmail account set up using mfe. I mainly want the gmail acc to sync my calendar. This works fine the first time - delete all items from calendar, sync and it works. Any further attempts just get a mfe failed to connect message and no sync. Has anyone managed to get their gmail calendar sync working reliably? Its all I really need and it's starting to bug me big time!! If you could post clear (idiot proof) instructions on setting it up correctly I'd be very grateful. I'm happy to delete all the accounts and start fresh if necessary. Stu. |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
nokia messaging sent mail folder
i noticed a strange behavior. i have gmail, hotmail, yahoo accts setup on NM primary being gmail. If i send a mail through any acctl, i can see it sitting in the sent folder of all three accts. shouldnt it be just under the sent folder of gmail if i sent it through gmail or yahoo if i sent it through yahoo acct. OR is it just one sent folder for the whole NM that appears on every acct. can someone check if they have the same Sent folder behavior? if they have one folder, its a huge bug |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
I use yahoo which is fine and literally just setup my gmail account and it worked fine, message sent and shown in my sent items, also it shows sent items I sent online aswell as on the n900.

Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
it's a bug i believe : you can't use mfe and NM with the same account or else it wouldn't send
|
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
I noticed that if I setup an IMAP account (also for gmail) the email client used that EVEN when the NM account was setup as the preferred account ...
So the mail client is definately buggy here. |
Re: Nokia Messaging with Gmail - sent emails not working
just to answer my own question, i ran some test emails back and forth, it works fine putting emails on servers but uses a single NM sent folder. I find this setup bizarre, my email (folders) on cellphone should replicate my emails online (folders)

There's a bug report already open here which I think captures this problem. Suggest voting for it:
