Album Art in Mplayer question

This may have been asked a thousand times so apologies if it has

How does mplayer know about the album art?

I uploaded an Album which just contained the mp3's and the Album icon appeared

Now it would be great if I could get the album art for all my albums ive got on my N900, does the mplayer go and search a cd database and I take it the album tag must be embedded in the mp3's themselves

It recognizes album art embedded in the id3 tags and also a file, "cover.jpg" (or .png) in a folder containing an album.

Re: Album Art in Mplayer question

Hmm but how does the album art get into the .mediaartlocal folder when the transferred MP3's have no album art id3 tags (not that I can see anyway)

media player must be getting it from the internet but there are no configurable options

Slightly offtopic.
Is there any busybox bash gurus :)

I would like to rename all the jpg files in different (albums) subfolders to cover.jpg and found duplicates (backcovers) could for example be cover1.jpg etc.

It probably picks up whatever picture file is in the same directory.

Have a look at the following page as well:

Re: Album Art in Mplayer question

There isnt a picture file in the directory, thats my point :)

There is now a .mediaartlocal folder as a subfolder with the album cover image in it but i didnt put it there, I only copied the mp3's to the N900 using mass storage mode

are you sure the n900 is getting the art work from somewhere?
i mean that i use mediamonkey to embed all my art work into my mp3s, and after transfering them to phone i only ever see art work that ive embedded myself, the mp3s i didnt add artwork to still show the nokia turntable icon

I've had it for a while and it did nothing. I almost forgot it's there.

I assumed it works automatically but it does nothing?

It doesn't seem to do anything for me either.

I use the attached script to copy the cover art from my computer (Rhythmbox,Banshee) to my N900. The script is run on the computer and the N900 needs to have an OpenSSH server running.

On the machine, install:
  • gvfs-backends
  • python-mutagen
  • python-gobject

On the N900, install:
  • openssh-server

Edit the the N900_ART URI in the script to point to your N900 and then just run the script. I already thought about making it the other way around and creating an application for the N900 which can copy covers arts from other computers via SSH and/or load images from the web.

This script assumes that it is run from the home directory, that music is stored in a directory named "Musik". But this can be changed by editing the script.

Re: Album Art in Mplayer question

Figure I shouldn't create a thread and will ask here...

Half of the music on N900 do not have an album cover art. However, the one that are missing the album art, the images are in "picture" folder. When I connect N900 to the computer, those album art are no where to be found. I was only able to locate the album art that are working properly.

It's a bit annoying since each album without an album art, there would be 4 pictures of it in "picture" folder. Now my picture folder is jam pack with 4 of the same image for about 30 album... WIth N900, not saving filter setting, it could be quite annoying if you didn't tag pictures. :( Also, the album that work properly, the album art won't show up in "picture" folder which is what I wants.

ANyone know how I could fix this issue? N900 wouldn't let me delete the duplicate images.

Download mp3tag in to your computer and run it in your music folders on N900.

Tried it on a few albums and it worked a treat, will do the rest now.

I guess Windows Media Player gets album art by putting a jpeg in the file folder rather than embedding it in the file?

How does it work? It would be nice if album pictures could be downloaded automatically (on demand).

I've no idea, I've never installed it. I've seen it in app manager though, and just thought that it may be a reason for cover images appearing without having been manually installed.

Hi there,
All my albums have their artwork in itunes.. but they get mixed up when I put them in my N900!!!
I've got half my albums with one single album work!!! Is there a way to force the media player just to use what's embedded in the file itself?

Better late than never... use MussOrgsky. It's fantastic.

@leetut. (or anyone else)

I've been using MediaMonkey for tagging too, and been playing around with the Device Sync (which I've never done before).

Some albums aren't showing their art in the Albums List, but they do in the main player screen (when track is playing).

Any idea why some just refuse to show the album art in the main list?

I've tried resyncing, deleting, resyncing, re-retagging album art, but nothing.

Re: Album Art in Mplayer question

This is how i do it. Works only if you have albums in their own directories.
Download (windows)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/album-art/
And from settings see that it saves cover art as "cover.jpg"

Copy album folders to N900 and it puts automatically cover.jpg as album image for files in that folder.

Re: Album Art in Mplayer question

I have been testing 2 tagging editors which both seem to have the ability to label MP3 formatted songs with album art. The problem I encountered is I changed the album art for a couple of CD's and the correct tags are embedded based on what I see with both tagging editors but the N900 seems to remember the original album art which overrides my changes. All my music resides on the external memory card.

Can anyone provide a simplified explanation on how I can clear the previous album memory so the n900 will use the tags that have been embedded in my music files?
