we need to figure out how you do this!

Conversations wouldn't be so hard to tweak, its only some css I think

this happened and didnt have opportunity to film or take more screenshots....

the items is status bar scrolled fine as not all would show

i think if i zoomed out in conversations screen text would have fit..
pressing - and + keys zooms text in conversations!

Re: My N900 Has Gone Into Portrait Mode Again

it's easy to do it ;) install braek from extras-devel repository, but you should know that i is unsafe for you lol !!!

so once braek is installed, run it, then go into your phone app. If you want the bug to work, you'll need to configure the phone app to run in portrait mode and not in auto rotate screen ;)
so while still having the braek on your screen ( i mean the false broken screen ) run phone app and then just hit the button to go to dashboard and...

YOU ARE IN PORTRAIT MODE !!!

Wonder why we have to wait so much (maemo6) for portrait?
It seems so close, only the desktop needs more tinkering with.

Re: My N900 Has Gone Into Portrait Mode Again

Just for those who don't know yet, with the last firmware update, the browser is available in portrait mode, you just have to push ctrl+shift+o once and then the browser goes to portrait mode automaticaly when you turn the device.
You can switch it off by pushing the same key's again

Re: My N900 Has Gone Into Portrait Mode Again

this happened to me once, after playing "color code" (mastermind clone). i wasn't able to get it back to landscape, rendering the device near useless until a reboot :)

maybe you can reproduce it using this game, i can't test it right now.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed when I saw "Milestone: Harmattan" on portrait input in brainstorm...

Re: My N900 Has Gone Into Portrait Mode Again

my device got into this state once also. I was in "phone" applet (portrait mode) and portrait mode got stuck after that. The only way to go back was to reboot the device...

Re: My N900 Has Gone Into Portrait Mode Again

i was able to reprodue the protrait mode several time. after the latest upgrade i held the phone in protrait mode position and clicked on the phone. it opened up in protrait mode and then i clicked on the more app and i got the phone to be in protrait mode. close the app screen and your desktop should be in protrait more.

N900 will be getting Portrait Mode - take a look

Hey guys i got some Screen shots of my phone in portrait mode.
One day after a phone call it would not leave this mode until I restarted the phone. It was cool at the time. Everything worked but i was not able to leave this mode on the desktop but i could use landscape in the browser.

One question though is how are the backgrounds going to work when they do enable portrait mode?????? Know what I mean???. You will need two lots of backgrounds. One for landscape and one for portrait. look Bellow.

Just to let you guys know I was able to move icons on the desktop to the bottom of the screen in portrait mode. I pretty much had full Control.

Found on of the post here is also two swipe backgrounds in the n900. LockSliderThumb.png", and the second one is "LockSliderThumbPortrait.png

maybe someone could take advantage of this and write something up if nokia decide to change their mind and not enable portraite mode. This phone is Open Source right ;).......... lol

Re: N900 will be getting Portrait Mode - take a look

Happened to me also this week. a couple of times.

I think it has to do with some applications I installed, but not sure which.

It starts with the phone getting stuck in portrait and then all the other applications stay in portrait as well.

It's cute but it is a bug and not supposed to happen. You can't really use it because the rendering is still in landscape, so half the items are missing. Hope it works it self out.

felbutss 2010-02-02 07:34

Re: N900 will be getting Portrait Mode - take a look

But wasn’t the OS designed for Landscape mode like the previous tablets??????? Some apps like the call app switch over to portrait mode through resolution switching or something. Just saying that I thought the desktop would of been hard set to landscape so its funny to see it switch to portrait.

Eg: the iphone. Have you even seen the iphone desktop in landscape mode?????

Re: N900 will be getting Portrait Mode - take a look

If they do enable portrait mode I'd personally like to scroll between screens vertically! Try swiping on your own phone! The side-to-side swipe in (simulated) portrait mode feels kinda awkward but swiping from top to bottom and vice versa feels great :D This way the looped wallpaper would still work, even tho if it's a wallpaper with distinct orientation it would unfortunately be tilted. However abstract looped wallpapers would still look really cool :) What do you think about this?

Re: N900 will be getting Portrait Mode - take a look

ggooodd idea. that solves the wallpaper issue. hope nokia read that

It would be a challenge to switch between landscape and portrait without messing up the desktop, might be it has to store 2 different sets of layout?

Re: N900 will be getting Portrait Mode - take a look

No offence, but your post title is misleading: a bug in the firmware (and a much-discussed one at that) doesn't imply that Nokia is going to officially support portrait mode, as the OP suggests. For that matter, I wouldn't get too excited about it. I'd like it as much as the next guy, but doing it properly isn't as easy as you might think.

Most of the icons, widgets and shortcuts and so on are fairly square, so if you were to define a centerpoint for lets say a contact the phone could just rotate the contact icon 90 degrees when the phone turns into portrait mode!

Re: My N900 Has Gone Into Portrait Mode Again

If you guys get stuck in portrait mode. There is a way to fix it. Just close all apps apart from phone. Then lock the phone (double press power button or use side lock slider) then when the phone is locked press the power button once and the "Slide to Unlock" screen appear. Make sure your phone is in landscape while u slide it and it will go back into landscape mode :D

If anything. They were going to implement portrait mode and most likely abandoned it

There is a way to save the desktop arrangement.. So maybe it's just a matter of making two separate settings for both landscape and portrait and just having it load them up whenever you switch.

Re: N900 will be getting Portrait Mode - take a look

I seriously hope they at least get Portrait if not just for texting this is all i care about. with a, im not sure of the term, alphanumeric keypad. like an old school phone. call me old fashioned but i can text on them without needing to look at the phone it is so much faster than a keyboard for quick texts.

More importantly felbutss what in the world is in your last screenshot. i can see a topless man with what can only be described as a green balaclava over his head. Then some flesh coloured ...... well i dont no what, next to a sleeping head :)
