Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
Ok this is my problem: yesterday I received my N900 Invisible Shield from Zagg.com, and I applied it on my phone following all the instructions properly. I had to remove it and re-apply because of some dust entered between the screen and the protector, but after this second application all seemed to be fine. I waited for 24h and today I've turned on my phone. You can imagine my face after realizing that water has entered in my screen, and there's a sort of great halo surrounding all my screen. That is visible just with the screen on, when it's off the screen seems perfect, that's why I believe that there are no air bubbles under the film, it's just water under the screen...
The phone works perfectly, but I'm a bit afraid of using it with water inside the screen, so I've removed the battery and let it on the table. What do you think about that? What should I do now? Have you ever experienced this? How can I properly dry the screen? |
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
Place the phone in a can of rice, it will drain all the water out. Seriously :).
|
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
is the 'halo' still present when you remove the screen protector?
there is a movie posted of the n900 resilience against water, it was quite impressive. http://www.tehkseven.net/news/nokia-...00-water-test/ |
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
I believe the moist is just under the shield. I once installed this "zagg" shield to my n95 and i got also this white "haze/moist", it should dry out in couple days. I can be wrong though :(
I personally think these invisible shields are RUBBISH and dont recommend them to anyone, they are difficult to apply and water is always bad to your phone (exept sonim). I would recommend to you though to order from ebay some screen protectors, they cost allmost nothing and are wery easy to install (with no water). I just ordered a while ago six of them and cost about 8 USD!!! perfect fit!! |

Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
@warpstalker: has anyone ever tried this? Sounds pretty weird, but if you say it works, I'll give it a try. How long does it takes for the water to be drained out in the rice?
@RDJEHV: I'm a bit afraid of removing the screen protector, because it would mean re-using some water, and actually water SCARES ME a lot :D. In your opinion, should I remove the film? I've already seen that video, don't know how my N900 has managed to fill itself... @teemui: did your haze look like this? Sorry for the ugly photo I'm actually unable to get a better photo. http://www.flickr.com/photos/46097117@N05/4287359943/ @pinsh: Damn, already used the chinese one... :D |
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
rice absorbs moisture like salt does.
Those nice little rattling packs you get packed with your IT stuff - is a silicone gel that has same properties - but is a lot more efficient. So if you have a few of those around they might help as well. Pack the phone in a few tissues - and submerge in a rice pack. That should take most moisture out. |

Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
Those things are crap. I bought a Zagg for my wife's Droid, and I had a hell of a time putting it on...not to mention there's freaking water all over the place with doing one of these installs. Water under the film, water on top of the film, water all over the screen. Then they say that even after you get all the major bubbles out, the minor ones and other water under the screen will just dry up and disappear after 24 hours. Bull, I still have odd marks under the screen. Not to mention, it's more of a rubbery surface now on the Droid one. So moving your finger across the screen is met with some resistance now. It's junk. Don't buy one is my opinion. Stay away from Zagg's.
I picked up the 3M - Vikuiti DQC-160 protector for my N900. NO WATER NECESSARY when doing the install, but you have to be extra careful about touching it on the sticky side and not have any lint around. Takes some patience to apply it and press it down, but it is WAY BETTER than the Zagg one in my opinion. And, it's a slick smooth surface that your finger glides across. Not rubbery! |
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
Just putted my N900 in a lot of rice, hope it works. It makes me laughing everytime I think that inside that rice there's a €600 phone...

That said, I went with the Lexerd (I wrote a review on the clear 2-pack model) available on amazon.com...no water necessary. |

I recommend to take this "invisible shield" and flush it down the toilet, and grab some descent film for your phone  |
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
you could just lift up one corner and see if the moist is between the screen and the protector.

Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
Hi everyone.
I've taken my N900 out of the rice: its screen has gone from this: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2520/...52c6dfa1_b.jpg to this: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2700/...a0b7e3f4_b.jpg I've put it in the rice again, what do you think it's going on there? |
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
I also screwed up my zagg shield alot of ugly bubbles and stuff.
I didn't like the installation at all, having water possibly running down in the speakers or screen I tried to just moisture the plastic a bit, but it obviously didn't work. Even if it was because I had to little water I wouldn't wanna try with more and risk hurting my phone. NOt good procduct :( |
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
Hi guys, sorry for forgetting this thread I've just remembered it and I want to give you the final update.
All has gone well, my phone works as before, and maybe even a little better because of the screen protector. I'd not suggest it to anyone, because you risk to water damage it, but having it on saves your phone from lots of accidents (e.g. some days ago a friend of mine started playing with my N900 using a PEN as a stylus, the screen protector worked well in that situation). Yeah, it's a bit rubbery on its surface but after some weeks it loses its rubbery a bit. Thanks to everyone for reading and giving me suggestions. |

I bought the full-body protection to my N900 from a Swedish web-shop. Was little afraid to put it on after reading this thread. I was really careful with the amount of water, but to get a good result it shouldn't be to less either. I didn't get any water under the screen. It took me about 1.5h to get all parts on and the result is almost perfectly except for one bubble (think its dust under) outside the screen-area and maybe two small dusts of grain on the screen. The phone feels rubbery, but I kind of like it, it feels secure and I don't have to worry about scratches. Of course the phone looks less stylish and the rubbery feeling on the body makes it feel less expensive :) For me it is worth it, and I have quite dry hands so my fingers aren't sticking that much to the screen. |

And being absolutely peaceful while using nails heavily on the screen is absolutely priceless for me, no more worries at all. |
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
I just want to say the zagg shield is awesome. It was my first time installing any protector with water and it went smoothly. I was able to install everything in 20 minutes.
I didn't get any stuck water or water damage either. After 12 hours everything seemed ok, so I put the battery in and turned it on. :D It does feel rubbery, but I like it and the rubbery feel on the touch screen doesn't bother me, so i'm glad I got this. My only complaint is it doesn't come with more pieces for the side of the lcd screen, stand, or in between speakers/unlock button/headphone jack. |
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
i installed mine in 15-20 min. As far as the water goes to the people who were having problems how much water did you use? I used just enough to wet everything so the material could still move on the phone. I squeegeed and dried the phone at the same time. I had zero problems except for 1 spec of dust i got trapped under the screen protector but i can deal with it. I turned the phone back on as soon as i was done, no waiting, i didn't have any excess water anywhere. And one day after it was installed it looked even better.

Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
I installed my full body ZAGG Invisible. all was ok with me.
So water issues at all. only think I find strange it that the side with the lock screen button dose not get covered, and the kickstand also dose not get a cover but I do have allot of the ZAGG Invisible stuff left to. So will just cut some off and make a bit that fits. i like a ZAGG as it add more grip to the handset. And the touch screen does not seem to be affected. I only used enough water to dampen the stuff and used a paper towel to remove any water that was moved when using the scrapper to remove any air bubbles. torpedo48 how did u get on with removeing your water? |
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
I am using Zagg since I had owned N95. Used it on my GF phones as well. Always perfect results with literally no bubbles or imperfections after couple days following the application. Just once on N900, I had to reapply because of tiny hair stuck right in the center of the screen. All you need to do prior the application is wash your hands, Windex the screen (I do), wet your fingers with application fluid, take off the shield, wet the sticky part of the shield with sponge and place it on the screen. It will easily slide in desired place, and becomes the true and only INVISIBLE SHIELD. THE END :D.

Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
the invisible shield is making my device look old and it's not invisible
|
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
I wonder if u can paint the invisible shield
(when i say paint I don't mean the screen). would be nice to have a mat black phone. |

Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
Close the rice cup. I think the halo is caused by the film itself having distorting the color of the LCD screen, similar to what bubble does to sunlight giving out the rainbow effect. This can't be fixed, and I hope I'm wrong given that other users are doing fine with Zagg.
I use Vikuiti DQC-160. I opted for it because it's 3M, removable for washing, and cheaper. Applying was as easy as /pagesix1536/ mentioned. Wish you luck. |

Take a photo of the current screen state if you can, and compare it after 3/4 days for seeing if the rice is working; otherwise you might need some technical intervent. Good luck :) |
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
It takes a few days to fully dry out. I dunno why so many people have problems with Invisibleshield though - the installation instructions are pretty simple and I've done it many times before for iPods, Macs, etc.
One place I really don't like sticking them though is touch surfaces. They really mess up the sensitivity of especially capacitive touch surfaces, but also resistive as well due to the spongy orangepeel layer. You can't drag with your nails anymore for example. I dont know how the full shields are arranged but IMO you should pick a clear shield for the screen. The protection of the Invisibleshield does work though, so for a full shield I would leave the rest on. |
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
i had no probs what so ever applying my full shield over 6 months ago, its still awesome, and touchscreen sensitivity is perfect, id recommend them to everyone

Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
No problems here. Zagg shield applied with no issues. Just be carefull nd follow the intstuctions that come with the shield. I had a universal on cut to profile initially but removed it and replaced with an n900 specific one when zagg released them.

Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
No problems here with my Zagg. You didn't spray the liquid directly onto the screen when you were applying the shield did you?
|
Re: Has Zagg Invisible Shield ruined my N900?
Lol, so sad for those who got problems with Zagg.
I applied invisibleshield for my N95-8gb and N900. All look fine. The problem i got was when i applied it to small place of the phone, it turned to a complicated task then. Why it was that so hard? It is because when you spray the Zagg solution (not water like someone mentioned) under the shield and then place it on the screen in proper place and after that you need and should drag all the solution out. Dont let it contact with the screen in long time. And dont spray too much solution. my friend used all the bottle for his phone..Lol That is also the culprit for moist. I used 1 bottle for two phone. However, after applied the zagg, my N95 look very awful. That was a cra* |
