n900 Transmission very slow download
hi!
i am using transmission for the first time now on n900 and i am having hard time to download anything, because the download speed is between 0 and 1.5kb/s. i have open the port, and try several .torrents with high number of seeders, but the download speed is usaly 0 for the most of the time, and max 1.5kb/s. did i miss any special config, or does anybody else have hard time with transmission? Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
Are you using a wifi or 3g connection? I believe some carryers block bittorrent on their 3g networks. If you are on wifi the most likely answer is that port forwarding on your router is not set up correctly.

Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
I'm experiensing over 1mb/s downloads with 3g and over 2mb/s over wifi, so I can't complain about the speed. I have to complain about sth else though - it's a resource hog! It's the only app that brings my phone to it's knees, slowing everything down - near to a halt :(

Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
i only try to download on wifi , haven't got any speed limit set, ports open correctly, and i am standing next to the router and still nothing, so i try speedy to check out the internet speed, and it was normal :S realy dont know what to do

Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
You might be over NAT (which you most certainly are), so you are not connectable, thus only outgoing links work.
Most trackers favor the fully sharing types making the problem worse. Try port forwarding setup, forwards some ports, configure your client to use those, should clear it up. I've gone over 200K with Transmission. It's not the client. |
Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
are you blind? i said 2 times now that ports are forwared properly! i try on my home wifi, standing next to router, i set up transmission on my home PC, set the same IP, user the same port, and the same .torrent, and it was fast, so now i configure the same IP to nokia, same port, tested the port, all ok, use the same .torrent.... still the same.... most of the time it is 0kb/s, and from time to time it downloads the torrent with horrible slow speed, and all you can say the port is to blame..... :S i flashed the n900 just now, just downloaded the transmission client, the same
Desperate :S |

If not reboot, at least wait a while. Few home routers have instant routing, especially if you reuse the IP. Quote:

Also, there's the question of your PC's configuration on the torrent client. When working with external peers, sometimes the limits are very low, about 1k. A PC with a unconfigured torrent client links about 50 peers, and a broadband like mine about 600 (100M/s). Transmission is limited to 15 global in settings, that could keep your speed low if some peers don't cooperate. Try increasing the limit (make sure you revert the setting if it doesn't help). Also, try to debug your up/down link, try downloading/uploading a large mail attachment, see how long it takes. You could try a telnet from the outside to the forwarded port, make sure it's correctly set up. |
Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
Short of checking the ports with a web port checker like --> http://www.canyouseeme.org/
I am guessing you get this speed with all torrents? Also does another computer on wifi get faster speeds? Otherwise I'm not really sure sorry. |
Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
If all else fails you may have to try setting up your phone as a dmz on your router.

Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
ndi. sorry for earlier, iam just so depressed about this.
i set my PC on wierless just to test, and set up same IP as i use on N900 but not at the same time, nokia wasnt connected to wifi at that time, and set up the same port but not at the same time with nokia, i try http://www.canyouseeme.org/ and the port was open, so i disable the wifi on my PC, and use diffrent IP, and connect nokia on the wifi, use the same IP as a use before with PC but not at the same time, use the same port, but not at the same time, use http://www.canyouseeme.org/, and the port was open, i use the transmission settings and check if port was open, and it was, the PC got 20Mb/s with the same torrent, nokia got 0 - 4 kb/s, most of the time it was 0, and it was connected to 15 peers, then i set up the nokia as DMZ, got external IP, the port was shown as open, the same the web, emails, sending large attachment, very fast, no problems, downloading with web normal results the only reasonable explanation is nokia n900 just doesnt like me :/ |
Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
Have you tried my previous suggestion on increasing number of peers? If some peers don't cooperate, this could be a problem. Make the limit 50 both ways (per torrent and global) and try a torrent that has quite a few seeds/peers, make sure it goes smoothly. Perhaps choose a local torrent, some peers are from the other side of the world and have high latencies.
Also, try to stop and restart the torrent if it insists on being slow, this re-connects all peers, hopefully other peers. Also, no worries, we' cool. |

Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
I've got over 1MB/s (ie > 8Mbit/s) with transmission on my N900! It was one of my 'wow' moments with this phone.
I've noticed that when the initial piece of data comes through for a large torrent, the N900 gets -very- unresponsive for quite some time. I think this is due to allocating space up-front for the whole file on the FAT partition (which doesn't support sparse files like a native FS would do). I just leave the phone alone for a couple of minutes until it sorts itself out. |
Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
a) No hijacking. You have a much better chance of getting help if you post in a thread called "Transmission: no open with" than "slow speeds", especially an old one.
b) Did the app install OK? What version of Transmission, what version of firmware? Did you reboot? Please include these in your new thread. c) Until this is sorted, save the .torrent to the device, fire up Transmission and use the menu to "Add torrent..." d) You did reboot and start Transmission at least once, right? |

I have the same issue as OP. I used transmission for the first time yesterday and it all night to download a 20MB file over 12MB connection. I checked the port and it is open for outside traffic. Still my download speed never got over 5 KB even though there were 50 peers connected. Any suggestion ? |
Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
I'm not quite having the same problem. I downloaded a torrent, and I seem to be limited to 15-20kb/sec. However, this doesn't seem to be a bandwidth limitation - CPU usage is sky high, and the entire phone becomes fairly unresponsive. Setting a 15 kb/sec bandwidth limit makes the phone usable, but barely. Has anyone else seen this behavior?

Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
It seems to be related to file size. The torrent that was killing me was 2gb. I paused it, added a 170mb torrent, still very unresponsive even at extremely 15kb/s.
I removed the 2gb torrent, and the 170mb torrent ran at 150kb/s without any lagging at all. |
Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
use qt rapids. . . i download 8 gb torrents wit zero lag. . . . at 600+ kb/s

Re: n900 Transmission very slow download
yes if u use transmission ur devise will slow down and the best way to use transmission is downloading when u dont need to do something else for example when u going to sleep.
and if u want fast download u must check the torrent if it has enough seeders and u can check the preferences to disable maximum downloading at 150!! u can change the maximum peers to be connected to 150 instead of 15!! and when u click on the torrent u can click the (i) info icon and u can change the priority of the torrent to high instead of middle and also the maximum peers to be connected!!l THE MUCH SEEDERS THAT FASTER THE DONWLOADS GOES!!! |

Oh and on another note - Transmission alternates between slow and fast for me - especially on large files. Smaller ones seem to come down just fine. Anything over say 500MB and you get peaks of upwards of 1MB+ followed by 30k. Its a strange issue to say the least. The only thing I can think is that its an IO problem with writing to memory |
