What TV Downloaders are there? (ie. BBC Iplayer)

After successfully downloading from the bbc iplayer, i'm chuffed.... Just had another wow moment!

Are there any other similar players, or methods that can be used, as i'm in the UK i'm particularly thinking of:
  • Sky
  • ITV
  • Channel 4

But happy to include other countries channels in the thread, as other people may be interested?!

Now i know they all allow people to view programs online (I do have a sky box+multiroom, so could use sky-player on my laptop)

But I'm more intrigued about the possibility of getting it on my n900 (I'm happy to be fair with drm'd versions, that allow 7 days etc of view) - but would love to know if any techies think it is possible? :)

try
http://www.tvcatchup.com/ or the Ipoop optimised version
http://iphone.tvcatchup.com/

both should work , you just need to register but a lot of live channels.(its not really catchup but live streaming)

tvcatchup is quite jerky and the iphone version doesnt work for me unfortunately. Ive been using it in the past to listen to commentary though as the sound is uninterrupted.:p

Ahhh that suggests it's not a downloader like the iplayer method.

I'd rather use a downloader and watch the stored files.

The get_iplayer software (http://linuxcentre.net/getiplayer) used to support other UK broadcasters like ITV, Channel 4 and Five, but the broadcasters kept changing things to try and avoid people downloading the programs.

France24 have ported his application for maemo 5 :)
Live and catchup in 3 language :
French => http://m.france24.mobiclip.com/?lan=fr-fr&rec=1
English => http://m.france24.mobiclip.com/?lan=en-us&rec=1
Arabic => http://m.france24.mobiclip.com/?lan=ar-ar&rec=1

I can confirm that the iplayer hack does not work for ITV or Channel 4 catchups. Both seem to come up with the error, "This does not look like a programme ID or a recognised programme url:"

Tvcatchup uses flash 10 so it will not work till it comes to the N900.

tv catchup is better for us UK users..has nearly all the freeview channels...surely we can tweak it to work if we are able to open the stream with a different media player than the default one??

any ideas?

I think this all comes down to the fact that tv catchup and bbc iplayer both use the flash 10 platform. currently we have flash 9.4 which will cause video to play with major lag. once flash 10.1 is released then they will work perfectly.

I was also informed by some guy in the vodaphone shop to watch out for an app called beeb player that may be coming to the 900 but i havent seen much about that online.

As for a workaround for the uk i have been using myp2p and p2p4u justintv & ustream for most of what i require. oh and livestation for aljazeera news and france 24 and presstv.

Anyhow fingers crossed for the flash 10.1 release being real soon as tvcatchup is an awsome site .

France 24 is a great app for the N900 IMHO. Very high quality and good looking.

Hint: double-tap screen for widescreen view.
