Re: Best Bluetooth/ wireless Earbuds/ Headsets/ Headphones

i have been told time and time again, from people online and from friends that work at nokia that the bh-903 turns circles around the bose earbuds.

unfortunately, they are on allocation and i have been trying to intercept a pair for myself for over a year!

if i wanted to pay $270 for a pair, i could get one from UK, but they are only $149 retail from Nokia directly...and i dont feel it is worth the 2x on the cost.

I have the Nokia BH-214, good quality, battery life is good and great signal. It also lets you switch out the headphones using a standard jack so if you dont like the stock ones you can easily swap them! Also for $45 new its hard to beat the price...

Yea! But the Sennheiser PXC310BT cost 399 at amazon, so my budget is around 100-150

Re: Best Bluetooth/ wireless Earbuds/ Headsets/ Headphones

the Nokia BH-503 are great, good sound and control function
(BUT Skype VoIP suck on the N900)

and they are really a bit akward on the head and will not work for fast walking runnung...but if in-ear buds is a no option as for me, and you do not want some HUGE "over the head" then they are fine.

I use them several hours / day...and consider them one of my Best Buys

Are these loud? I've got some senheisser cx500 in ear ones and might change to the BH-214 and CX400 (they have a really short cord), but i like my music loud!

Re: Best Bluetooth/ wireless Earbuds/ Headsets/ Headphones

My idea of a perfect headset is something:
- A2DP(BT stereo) and AVRCP(remote control) are MUSTS!
- non dongle, If I have a dongle I could have ear buds and small mp3player instead.
- no over-the-head band, seriously I'm not going outside like that

The first bt stereo I had was Logitech freepulse, it looked nice and was small enough but was a mess:
- no AVRCP
- 1-2 crackles per song.
http://regmedia.co.uk/2006/10/04/logi_freepulse_1.jpg

My second bt stereo was/still is Nokia BH-503
- excellent battery
- the size is a little big and they'll keep your ears warm for those cold autumns
- they will give you a slight resemblance with princess Leia, and wearing them in hot temperatures is unpleasant.

Lol but they are worth it!! no one comes close to their quality and with the new audio codec they have just for bluetooth audio its like they are wired! So worth it!

Re: Best Bluetooth/ wireless Earbuds/ Headsets/ Headphones

I have a love/hate relationship with my Motorola S9s.

http://www.cellxpo.com/images/S9.jpg

Firstly, you'll either love or hate the sound signature. They are quite flat, and the midbass is not overextended. They roll off in the extreme highs, but that's a good thing - bluetooth's compression mangles them anyway (>12khz).

They have a similar sound signature to Etymotic ER4s, though not as accurate.

Personally, I love the way they sound (for rock/metal/jazz/blues/classical), but if you listen to a lot of hiphop or electronic, they may not work.

They're ultra-portable, have outstanding build quality and battery life, and are great for the gym. Call quality is acceptable as well. I personally think the controls are outstanding.

However, they are indoor-use only.

They simply do not work outdoors. The antenna is inexplicably in the back of the unit, which sits on your neck. Bluetooth's low-powered 2.4ghz signal cannot penetrate the body, so it relies on reflections, which you don't reliably get outdoors. You can make it work if you keep your phone in a backpack, but it will not work with your phone in your coat or jeans pocket. It's frustrating their literature doesn't make this clear.

If you only need them indoors however, they're outstanding.

Finally, I would recommend avoiding the Sony DR-BT50. I just bought them about a week ago, and they are utter trash. Fit and finish is decent, the controls are OK (but not great), and the antenna placement is good. However, this is all moot, because of the audio quality. Appalling.

I honestly believe the testers they had either serious hearing damage, or listened to the most compressed, hissy pop songs they could find. Yes, they were in A2DP mode. Yes they used a large A2DP bit depth. They were massively spiked in the 200-400hz region, with no deep bass (<100hz) and muddied mids. The highs were completely missing. It wasn't a personal preference thing; it's not that I didn't just dislike the bass-heavy sound signature. They were simply not well engineered. Drivers were aimed improperly, and offered all sorts of strange harmonics and standing waves (particular in the midbass, which makes me wonder if the engineers were just deaf and tuned accordingly).

They were so bad I actually disassembled them and swapped the speakers from a pair of Koss KSC-75s. They sound decent now, but there's still some funny refractions going on in the speaker cases. Maybe some cotton would help. :) Anyway.

At the very least, if you are considering them (I bought them because they are closed over-ear cans, great for cold winter walking), do yourself a favor and listen to them first.

Nokia BH-905 The ANC is neat, and work well with the N900 on latest FW

Re: Best Bluetooth/ wireless Earbuds/ Headsets/ Headphones

I think they are quite loud :) I first tried a pair of samsung but they couldn't play my music(in flames ~melodic death metal) but the bh-214 managed.
The bh-214 was reviewed in a swedish magazine qoute:

"Nokia BH214 account for the large bang. You get a headset that offers brilliant audio experience and simple handling. With his five plus Nokia's handset is the only one in this test is fully potty [...]" from the newspaper Aftonbladet, 2009

The thing I miss is that there is no neck strap, i'm thinking about drilling a hole in the clip to be able to hang them around the neck.

Well, I think the S9 is great overall, if used indoors. It doesn't work at all outdoors.

I wonder if the 505 solves that issue by placing the antenna near the ear or better yet, implementing diversity..

Re: Best Bluetooth/ wireless Earbuds/ Headsets/ Headphones

I`ve got the Plantronics / Altec Lansing Backbeat 903. For just under £50 I`m well happy with them, the earbuds are not the "completely in ear" type so they don't filter out all the outside noise. I prefer that as I don't want to hear my heart or every step I make when listening to music. Sound is great imo for earbuds headphones, it maybe lacks a bit with tha basses but otherwise I`m happy. In-ear pieces twist and extend so they are adjustable, I was worried about the cable catching the collar but it`s fine, I was after a complete freedom of movement and I`ve got it. Regarding the signal, they work very well outside (meaning continuous playback without any cut outs) as long as I keep the N900 on the right hand side of my body, usualy in a over the shoulder bag, I suspect the antenna is in the right hand side piece. Battery life good, charges quickly, sweat proof, well recommended.

Anyone who can recommend a quality headset that can be charged with N900 micro-USB charger? Sucks that Nokia headsets I took look at have the old 2mm jack.

edit: Sony DR-BT100CX/BLU uses USB for charging, I guess It's micro...

Re: Best Bluetooth/ wireless Earbuds/ Headsets/ Headphones

Ok, I just got the 903 - basically the same thing but without a bluetooth transmitter (for non bt enabled devices)
The headset is very light and confortable but also stable and won't fall out of your ears.
All the buttons are working as far as I tested so AVCRP is fully working.

I do have a question though:

Has someone tried to charge his 903/906 with the charger from N900 or USB?
thanks :)

EDIT: seems to work fine both ways

And for those of you who are comfortable with silicon earbuds (even those that came with N900 fall out of my ear) I found this:
Sony's HBH-HS800

do you mean the headset is completely useless outdoors or just some problems when used outdoors coz I've just bought one couple days ago on ebay..

EDIT: nevermind I got the answer in this same thread :D

Why don't you use the clip on BH-214 to hang them? Another idea - I am considering buying a neck-strap earphones (like Philips SHE9600 or Panasonic HNJ200). That way you got quality earbuds and necklace in one.
I am also using BH-214 with my N900 - very happy. Good sound and ease of use, convenient. All AVRCP controls work as supposed.
If only there can be added auto answer to Maemo5 when headset connected...

I think you must have had an unlucky run-in with DRBT50's. Mine sound good, I woudn't say they're superb because I would prefer them to be a tiny bit more bassier however the mids and highs are nice. I must add that alot of other people who've reviewed them have also said that they're definately above the average pair of bluetooth headphones.

What device did you try them with? It can make a big difference.

Aside from that, tell me more about the Sennheiser PXC310BT's! What makes them so great? I want to upgrade from my DRBT50's

I'm wondering if I ended up with a chinese knockoff. I did order them from ebay, but from a reputable dealer. Honestly, I can't imagine this is how Sony expected them to sound. I'm no fan of their signature (in fact I detest all things Sony, except their professional stuff), but even they aren't capable of producing what I received.

I actually cracked the cases open to see what was going on in there, and everything looked legit - drivers were physically well constructed of high quality materials. Nevertheless, I ripped them out and installed some KSC-75 drivers from a spare set, aimed them properly, and installed proper insulation foam. They sound excellent now.... more as I would have expected.

I don't actually have the Sennheisers myself, and I'm also looking for more BT headphones. I ordered the Backbeat 903's but they were defective and I'm waiting on a DOA replacement. I've got the S9HD, which, like the S9 is great except for the antenna placement.. and their stupid SRS-WOW garbage. It sounds like intentionally introduced phase distortion, and midband stereo compression. I don't understand how people could find it pleasant. Luckily you can turn it off.

I'm starting to think the only answer is a BT receiver and a decent set of wired IEMs.

I tell ya.. there's a hell of a market opportunity for anyone out there willing to hire an audio engineer with a scope. :)

Has anyone ever tried the Sennheiser MM200?

http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser...e_music_502411

They're still going for about $150 to $200. Buy.com has them for $150.

I think it's been out a while already but I read reviews that they're quite good with regards to sound quality. I believe there are some reviews on Amazon.com.

I've been thinking of getting some stereo bluetooth headsets for travelling and such. Especially now that I have the OtterBox for my N900, it's harder for me to use the corded ones. Plus, wire freedom is nice!

Bluetooth headphones are famous for its versatility and various modern designs. These gadgets provide the user a convenient way to answer calls or messages on their cell phone without the hassle of having your hands distracted. It will also allow you to speak into the microphone on the headset, thus will provide clear audio to communicate with your clients.

I use the BH-604 on my N900.
The only downside about this headset is that it's much bigger than all other headsets in this thread
(IMO this is not a downside but i guess some of you would like it smaller)

Soundquality is simply amazing.
Crystal clear sound and a warm beep bass!
and it's realy pleasurable to have this on your head because it's so soft.

The battery lasts over a week when i use it every day 2-4 houres

here in belgium it costs €90. Wich imo is waaaaaaaay to cheap for this headset :D
