Do you miss your old phone??
I know many of us N900 users have shifted from other makes and model's to have the Maemo experience..
I thought it would be interesting to see whether anyone regrets switching to the N900 and what phone they've come from.. Just for Fun :D |
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
I don't miss my iPhone 3G a bit :E, in my opinion this is far better phone, had the iPhone for year and half jailbroken hmm.

Re: Do you miss your old phone??
Where's the option "I still use my old phone"? - That's what I do.
|
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
Came from the iPhone 3GS 32GB
Loving the N900, there are a couple of quirks but they do not ruin the experience of the phone..... Am loving being away from that damm iTunes App Store, OMG what a load of rubbish, 10'000 Apps - 9'982 are not worth downloading |

Miss my N95 8gb call handling and MMS......
|
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
I still enjoy switching between my E71 and N900...E71 is by far the best business phone ever...whereas the N900 is a very good media device...and with an Office writer app and a dedicated and good GPS app then it will become an excellent device!!!

Re: Do you miss your old phone??
my N900 makes calls, sends texts, send/receives email, syncs my google contacts and calender. That's the basics covered.
On top of that it is the best mobile browser i have ever come across. I used to hate fiddling about on the net on my HTC Kaiser - no matter the browser... i tried them all. I have managed a few simple wee tweaks with thanks to those who frequent this forum. I use the FM transmitter everyday on my way to and from work. The limited number of games i have, i have already played more than i ever played games on my Kaiser - or any other previous WinMo for that matter. Sure i could moan about the lack of a decent navigation app but i'm sure that will come. I am a little aggrieved that Nokia hasn't got as far as planning their full scale Maps for our N900 but i'm sure something will come. I can only see a good future for this device. I'm lovin' it! |

Was hoping to have most of the functionality of that in the N900 eventually, but now am becoming very disillusioned with this device. |

But I do miss my N95 8GB for turn-by-turn voice navigation. |
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
i come from a nokia E61, i do miss some things that were very easy and convenient to use, and i have somewhat lost now with the n900.
- very accessible and sorted by date notes (still looking for an app that will sort my txt files by modified date, so i can keep using and updating my old notes) - imap idle for gmail - native google maps app with latitude - opera mini was great - gmail java app was good for some things - great battery life - log application was awesome - to do list in calendar app and some things i'm sure i'm forgetting. I'm having a hard time waiting for the same level of functionality, and many things i'm sure won't get (google apps are unlikely, for example, i think..), i might end up buying a E72... |
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
Nope I don't miss it...but then I'm not a big phone user, so the possible short-comings of the N900 telephony don't bother me. I was more looking for a "pocketable computer (that runs Linux) " with phone abilities than the other way around, so I'm happy :)

Re: Do you miss your old phone??
I love my N900. I had an iphone and now my iphone is missing me ... Poor thing. He was nice but nothing compared to my N900.
Now I feel guilty forgetting my old iphone :-( |
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
I miss having access to my sling box, via my 900, but I still have my Motorola Q for that. However I'll grudgingly accept that loss for the better browsing experience vs. the fewer times I'd watch TV while I'm "out".
I don't miss my Droid, as the 900 has better reception in the areas I frequent, on both carriers that I use. |
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
Previously I used my Qtek 8310 (same as HTC Tornado), loved the phone, not the OS (wm5) but the d-pad became broken so using was very impracticle. Replaced it with the N900 :D

Re: Do you miss your old phone??
I miss every phone I've had. I'm too sentimental.

Re: Do you miss your old phone??
I miss the size, weight and relative "disposability" of my 5800XM
I miss Ovi Maps 3, which starts up and has a GPS fix in < 10 secs, and got me from Dorset to London and back today, turn-by-turn. I miss its sound quality - I did a side by side comparison last night, and the N900 sounds just awful, with no bass. I miss its reliability - my N900 wouldn't boot this morning, and needed a hard re-flash. no idea why. I miss the screen quality - just way 'nicer' (indoors), and side by side the 5800 really shows up the N900's yellowy cast. Of course the N900's transflective screen excels outdoors. Miss hardware buttons, easy one-handed use and 'standard' power connection. That's about it, though. the S60 UI made me want to stamp the 5800 into the ground on a regular basis. I love the N900, and it has a very exciting future. Insanely, I was glad when I got my first (minor) screen scratch because it put an end to my debating about selling it and going back to the 5800. Now I feel I can stop treating it like a baby, and start using it as a workaday tool. |
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
I had a N82. Good phone. i still have it in my briefcase with a prepay card in case I lose the N900 or in case I need to snap a photo in the dark. This is probably the only thing I am missing from it. The xenon flash.

I do miss my e71 i have all my IM on it and none on my n900 beside skype & gt) and some other stuff that i loved in that phone.

Re: Do you miss your old phone??
I intended to continue using my e51 but have found the n900 copes with most of it's job pretty well. I intended to retire my n810, but I still need that for nav.

Re: Do you miss your old phone??
Old one was N96, and HELL NO! N900 is much much much (xINF) better than N96 and all other Symbian devices. But maybe i miss "say who's calling" feature, which makes life easier, but since its only a SW-related problem, I hope to see that feature soon.
|
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
No, I had a SonyE K800i but I don't make many calls and use my N900 for calendars (syncing with Memtoo and Outlook), mail and browsing.
A question you didn't ask - do I miss my PDA? Not really, I am even hardly using my Palm TX now. (I had to use both TX and the K800i before, the N900 replaces both) |
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
Sometimes i miss my 5800 for the following reasons:
But to buy the N900 was a very good choice because these things or similiar ones will definetly come with time. |
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
hell no, blackberry storm-nokia N900. no contest, i couldn't wait to see the back of the blackberry, and this phone sure took it's time in coming out, i love it, and wouldn't be without it, sure it's not perfect, mms is absent, minimal call features, finding my battery life sucks, even though i've tried some solutions posted on here. but, i've used mms about 3 times in my life, which is a lot of phones, my wife is basically the only one who calls me, i don't really miss portrait mode, so it's perfect for me!

Re: Do you miss your old phone??
Nope. My N96 never worked as promised. Had better GPS but even that was flakey with the ariel being on the back plate. Wifi was fricking useless.
Much prefer my N900 (espcially with Gpodder). |
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
My old, and sold N97 is not missed, neither are the near constant out of memory hassles it provided.
|
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
Well i love N900 more and more every day!

Lucky me i bought N900 separatley from my contract (nokia preorder) so now i think at the end of february i have upgrade from vodafone uk so im gonna choose e72 as a secondary toy!!! |

Re: Do you miss your old phone??
Not sure...Each time I feel the need to go back (N97), each time it`s a painful reminder of S60 5th ed. indispositions even though served on much brighter and despite the lower resolution, significantly crispier screen. The reason I go back? Primarily for N97`s potent GPS (:mad:I AM SO MAD @ NOKIA FOR MAKING OVI MAPS FREE AND EXCLUDING N97 OWNERS W/N900 FOLLOWING!!!! THAT`S UNACCEPTABLE!), and perhaps to your surprise, I am using it for it`s size allows me to carry it in my armband case while running and listening to the music:cool:. I am currently satisfied with my N900, but without voice guidance in OVI in the future, HTC HD2 is becoming more and more tempting successor to the phone I will miss next:D

Re: Do you miss your old phone??
Still use my N82, because TomTom works on that one :)
As soon as Sygic becomes available, I think I'll stop using my N82. |
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
My old phone was an iPhone and I barely used it's "advanced" features due to its closeness. I'm a really really happy N900 user.

Re: Do you miss your old phone??
last phone own was the 5800mx and the only thing i miss the most is one hand texting, people would say resistive screen texting isn't fast but boy can i prove them wrong with the help of the number pad t9.

Re: Do you miss your old phone??
Had an Sony Ericsson K800i before. Not even a close match to the N900 of course.
Only thing i miss is using it for four to five days without having to charge. ;) And maybe the xenon flash but i cant really compare. Haven't made many photos with the N900 yet. |
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
I swtiched from N95 to N900. I don't regret it but there are things I miss about the N95:
- One-handed use!!! - Not touchscreen, therefore no fingerprints all over the screen :) - Turn-by-turn navigation in many flavors(Ovi, Garmin, Sygic, TomTom, etc) although none of them speak street names - Google voice search, google local search using GPS, Google Maps. It is really useful. - Abundance of free and paid apps, Games, J2ME support - Buttons! Using joystick/keypad to navigate menus and programs (I was shocked N900 forces you to touch the screen in almost all places, despite having a qwerty keyboard and running landscape-only) - Could play music and use the phone at the same time without it stopping and stuttering (N900 music player sucks...) - Mobbler! - An actual menu structure with folders that you could customize - SlingPlayer. My slingbox is now a useless device :-/ - N95 has better stereo speakers than N900 in my opinion - Easily accessible MicroSD slot that doesn't require me to rip the back cover off - Front camera is actually usable, for example skype video chat works great Things I like better in N900 than N95: - The speed! Everything is so much faster in general. - The screen! The high resolution is awesome. - Linux! I use it as my primary desktop OS so having it on my phone makes me very comfortable. Having perl in my phone is sweet, and I look forward to making some Qt programs for my N900. :) - UI is generally better-looking and easier to use than S60v3, (except for the menu which is better on N95). - The web browser is better in just about every possible way - USB 2.0. (N95 was uselessly slow in mass storage mode.) - qwerty keyboard is better than numbers-only keypad, even though I think N900 keyboard layout really sucks in general. I hate when reviews say it has a "full qwerty keyboard". A keyboard that is lacking numbers and an apostrophe key is not "full" in my book. It has the letters of the English alphabet and that's about it. (After 1 month of use on my N900 I still type slower than I did with T9 mode on my N95.) - app manager is infinitely better than symbian version |
Re: Do you miss your old phone??
Nope... but have fond memories of my 6610's wobbly keyboard and half-broken speaker will live on :D
