So are there any news? Any knows who's developing it if at all?
Those youtube videos looked promising.

I think a psx emu should have s mapped as L3 and up mapped as R3, then the 8 keys around them would be the 8 directions, eg w is left stick up, x is left stick down, backspace is right stick up+right. Suddenly big thumbs and a small keyboard is a advantage :p Same around g for the d-pad, l,o,k,i as x,o,sq,tri volume as L1/L2, camera half press as R2, space as R1, and u/j as start/select.

Why not have an on-screen set up?

a good example of this is the iPhone where the screen emulates the controls of an analogue stick.

Surely the N900 would handle this kind of feature better being resistive it allows for a more precise position than its capacitive cousin

or of course use a BT controller (PS3) and simplify this whole thing!

(yes, I referred to screens as cousins.....)

on screen controls are difficult/impossible for lack of multitouch
on screen controls also don't provide tactile feedback
they would occupy part of the display better used to show the actual game
to disply all the psx controls on the screen would probably take all the space...
and you would have to implement that too somehow

The Multi-Touch point is a ******ed mistake on my part and I should have taken this into consideration, I do think that SOME controls could be on the touch screen though - e.g. L2-R2.

Okay so here's my idea for the PSX control scheme. Sorry for the lazy chop-job :D

This is how I play when I emulate PSX on my PC. WASD for D-pad and 8456 for face buttons while Q and E are L1, L2 (makes sense since It's my left hand on those buttons) and 7 and 9 are R1 and R2 respectively.

I like your layout, if nothing else it makes it easy to hold while playing and close enough to accurately hit the buttons by feel.

so does anyone know exactly how long this is going to take. i have tried installing so many different versions of pcsx and pcsr-r etc. even tried ppsx for palm os on garnet vm with no luck :( the garnet vm version just kept giving me an error saying it needed to use a memory card. blah.... im almost giving up :P

might actually have a go myself.
but before i do does anyone actualy know if one is in the works??? like for real??

Read the first page. It's currently in the works - hopefully coming soon.

Seach for n900 psx on youtube to see a PSX emu running at half speed without optimization and HW acceleration with is quite impressive if you ask me.

fair doos. yeah i saw. at the moment am experimenting with easy debian. and installing this:
http://packages.debian.org/lenny/armel/pcsx/download onto the image. will let you know if it works. probably not very well looking at how slow open office is with it. but worth a try never the less!!

Thanks for the link, I was looking for that.

you probably know this without saying, but in order for a PSX emu to work at full speed it needs to use the N900's GPU acceleration while being highly optimized. Hope someone with real talent is working on this project :D

right pcsx for debian loads up within debian LXD but it gives me an error saying that the cd plugin is not working. any ideas?

yeah true. i dunno how anyone would go around that though. as most psx emu's use there own software... i think :/ am new to linux so im still learning. il try and sort the cdplugin problem out and load a game up. il let you know how it runs. or you could try yourself.

heres how incase anyone is woundering:

Install easy debian. (just search maemo and it'l tell you how)
once debian is installed, in the more menu tap on "synaptic package manager".
Once it loads up click on "search" and type in "pcsx".
after the search you should then be faced with 2 programs, "pcsx" and "pcsx-df". Tick the tick boxes and then click on "apply",
They should then install.

To run open up debian LXDE and go to the programs>game>PCSX.
Opens up but I get an error?? :/

it livesssss! right you have to go into the pcsx plugins and bios tab, and change the cd plugin to he iso plugin... duh! am just makin a youtube vid of it running ff7... typical i know but i havent got any others at the ready. (yes its my own ripped version :)).
For some reason i cant get it to go fullscreen though. il post the link up once i upload it. very exciting that it even boots up.
unfortunatly it dies on the first fight. not sure why :/ must be cz the fights are real 3d. hmmm any ideas? maybe another plugin?

anyone else tried it yet?

Try getting different GPU and sound plugins and play around with them. What's the FPS like?

alright like. probably around 10-15. it doesnt say so thats only a guess. I mean the FMV took about 5 mins to finish. maybe even more. il give you the link wen the video uploads. recorded it with a HD cam lol. so its takin ages to convert it. just rippin mgs aswel t see what that is like on it.

I will have a snoop round for some more plugins and have a little play with some. got some uni work to do for now soil have another look at it in a few hours.

I cant get it to work @ all. I installed the pcsx and it loads up. But when i choose a iso, pcsx just crashes. No error, nothing. the iso should be fine, i tested it with a emu on the pc.....
Is there something more to setup as the iso thing ?

I have the same problem, verry irritating...
