camkeyd should be integrated into maemo?
I installed this plugin as soon as it was released, and it's never let me down. All of my buddies who use my phone pick up that the camera button also equals menu button easily, and reckon it's ingenious, but as a strong N900/Maemo supporter i feel pretty miffed when i have to explain that the camkeyd functionality isn't actually in-built, and I can see all of them recoil when i explain that nokia thinks ctrl + backspace is the way to go.
So what does the community think of my proposition? Also, and mayhap more importantly, is Nokia legally able to do this? Cheers guys, hope you like my idea :D Edit: tried to make this a poll, but it didn't work for some reason, so when you reply just state if you're for or against my plan! |
Re: camkeyd should be integrated into maemo?
Camkeyd is not anymore supported. Use shortcutd instead. Proximity sensor can be disabled from settings.
.edit I do not now remember but there is some cases when it interferes usage, but yeah its sweet app. |
Re: camkeyd should be integrated into maemo
Nope, shortcutd should be the one integrated. :-)
The developer(s) of camkeyd have joined forces with others, and shortcutd will be the option going forward. Details at http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...2&postcount=14, including differences in function and plans. |

Re: camkeyd should be integrated into maemo
camkeyD is awesome. I totally agree, there should at least be an option i Maemo.
Ps. It made me miss the hardwarekeys on my N810 a LOT less! |
Re: camkeyd should be integrated into maemo
so far:
2 for 1 against also, ignore shortcutd, after quickly testing it, i defs feel camkeyd is much better (i hate prox sensor, and even on "off" it still vibrates on contact!) especially in this context. i had to uninstall camkeyd, and i frankly panicked that i couldn't remember how the hell to exit to the anythings! |

Re: camkeyd should be integrated into maemo
While I use camkeyd, I would argue that any changes via scripts or programs that I make, is a testament to the device, and not a reason to "feel miffed".
Each modification makes your living kernel more customized to you. Therefore I wouldn't want to change this key on everyone's device, just because it works for me. |

Bah, tried shortcutd instead of camkeyd, and it broke my accelerometer until reboot. Back to camkeyd.

Re: camkeyd should be integrated into maemo
IMO the proximity sensor is no good for anything but blanking out the phone during calls.
The functionality camkeyD provides is perfect and should be default. Makes it much easier to use the device. I wish camkeyD could be extended to register long presses for a quick way to get to the desktop. |
Re: camkeyd should be integrated into maemo
Why incorporate it as standard when we can easily include it anyway?

In this case, turned completely off means no vibration whatsoever at any point when covering the proximity sensor. See the shortcutd thread. |
