MP3 tag editor on the N900

Is there an app for editing the tags of MP3 files on the N900?

I know there's various Linux/Doze/Mac apps, but I want to do it directly on the device?

Cheers

There's mussorgsky, which looks to do what you're after. That's still in extras-devel though.

Anyone is able to save the tags in mussorgsky?
It worked great for the album art but editing tags it crashed after a few.
Trying just one edit and leaving doesn't change anything when you come back either...

I know its great to how the ability to edit stuff on the device but if you have a lot to do your far better off doing it on the computer I think.

Mp3Tag is what I used to tag and add cover art to over 2000 songs before I put my stuff on the N900 and it realy really helped.

It has access to multiple tag databases, it can search cover art or let you add your own, and it does converting from tag to file name or file name to tag. Also I am converting some flac to aac for the N900 and It lets me just copy/paste the tags over making my life so much easier.

mussorgsky is in the extras-devel repository.
so you have to add this first.
(i won't explain this here - just search for it ^^)

BUT: it's named "devel" because the apps there aren't meant for the enduser. they can be quite unstable and may do some damage to your device. if you do enable this repo you may want to take a look at the wiki-thread of reflashing / updating your firmware first. ^^

Re: MP3 tag editor on the N900

It is a nice application but I miss a "group" feature for editing parts like the artist and the album name for more than one song with one click.
How can I contact the developer?

Re: MP3 tag editor on the N900

Are albums covers images embedded in the mp3 file? Or are they just linked to the file in the media player, so that if I copy the mp3 in my pc and play it there there's no album cover?

Do you guys solved it?
I chmoded 777 all files, don't know if it makes sense but, it doesn't work anyway...

Re: MP3 tag editor on the N900

Hook up your N900 to any PC under Linux and edit the ID tags with EasyTag directly on the phone. That is much easier (keyboard -mouse) than fiddling about with the tiny screen, tiny keyboard and the clumsy touchscreen.

i thought it was a permission problem too. but it isn't, and i've found a way to make it work.

i have about 150 chinese songs (filenames and title/artist/album tags all in utf-8 edited by easytag and copied to the device from fedora) and the N900 can't read the tags of about a dozen of them (title/artist/album tags all empty). similar thing had happened to the earlier OS version of my N95 8GB (the tags weren't empty but they're messed up encodings) but a later update fixed that problem so that i didn't have to edit the tags on the N95.

anyway, after some trial and error, i've found that (in my case) only the title and artist tags can be updated successfully but not the album tag. i don't know if it has anything to do with the album art cuz when i edit the album tag, the album art will get chosen and mussorgsky will crash. i haven't tried not including album art for the affected albums so i don't know for sure. so for those dozen of songs, i edit the title tag to "1", "2", etc and the artist tag to "a", "b", etc, and keep the album tag unchanged (i.e. in their original utf-8 chinese). i copy those songs to the N900 and edit the title and artist tags with mussorgsky and it works.

i have a feeling this problem is the same as the one i encountered with my N95 8GB. i hope that a fix will be available soon.

the tags of my songs looks fine with easytag on my fedora before the songs are being copied to the device. i wonder if the tags of the copies of the songs on the device will also looks fine on easytag but not on the N900 media player. anyway, your idea is a good one and i'll give it a try.

Hi I have reported this problem in bugzilla as suggested by Ivan him on his blog but no response so far from him.

I voted for the bug, more votes may help improve the handling of the bug.

I will switch to an external tag editor in the meantime.

Wow! MussOrgsky is fantastic! I was trying to download apps for my PC to get album art for music, but of the 5 "most recommended," I tried, I found that I had to do it manually- search each album, that is (no automated process.)

Just had a crack at MussOrgsky and with a tap of a button, it's all being taken care of. N900 outdid my PC! Amazing!!

Great App!

Is it possible to sort the library alphabetically? Also the app doesn't seem to be picking up everything in my music library are there some file types it doesn't recognise i.e wma.mp3?

I hope someone is still working on this, it's an extremely useful app to have

+1 for Mussorgsky... love it how it handles album art. Easier than on my PC !

Re: MP3 tag editor on the N900

Mussorgsky crashes immediately on my N900, right after running it. I see the menu named Mussorgsky but that's it.

-I have *.mp3's and some *.ogg's.
-Mp3 tags are varied versions of ID3
-One album art image is repeatedly shown in mediaplayer(s).

Has anyone got an idea which of the forementioned may contribute to the crashing?

Re: MP3 tag editor on the N900

used command-line
tracker-processes --hard-reset

and runned MussOrgsky again

no different outcome

My only problem is that I cannot view the whole path of a song which could be a problem when I have to fill out some missing information.

what about improving MussOrgsky with folder batch editing, selecting your own cover, selecting/using google images?

I would love these features

+ 1! I have a 99% complete media library excepting some obscure albums that mussorgsky cant locate the correct artwork for......

All I would like to do is add my own cover art. Does anyone know where mussorgsky files its artwork?

I have tried removing the files and folders via windows explorer from the N900, then using mp3 tag to tag these files..... then add back. However the files seem to revert to the random art I selected via mussorgsky, ie: overrides whatever I have done with mp3 tag.

I am wondering if its a coincidence that all the files in question are .WMA's???

*
I am going to convert them to mp3 and try again to see what happens.

Q' for anyone who knows:

Where can I delete the mussorgsky tagging from, is it simply delete the files from my file library or is there another core file structure that is hidden and has to be accessed via another method?

Is there anyone who can add a point-to-file-on-N900 device option for album art selection option to mussorgsky?

Any help, advice, ridicule would be appreciated.

*edit update

converted and removed whole files from N900. rebooted then tagged with NCH, dragged files back to N900. rebooted.

Still shows up the random files I assigned via mussorgsky. sigh. can Ivan be contacted to discuss where the root files are stored in the N900 file system? its a small thing but I love my music and I want all my library correct!!!
