[Maemo5] Quake 1 and Quake 2 - forgotten?
 
As these two games have been ported on all imaginable platforms, it qould be nice to have them on N900 in their full glory.

I saw the port from OS 2008 and I was kinda disappointed by the lack of... well, Open Arena experience.

I'm posting this because I just tried Open Arena with accelerometer control and it was completely revelatory :rolleyes:

In the ol' symbian days, we had them both (Q1&Q2), with accelerometer control, but what makes Open Arena stay apart, and so much more fun, is the auto aiming.

Here's the link for the sources of Quake 1&2 with HWA. I hope someone will consider bringing them to N900 with:
-HWA
-Accelerometer control
-Auto aiming

so we can yet again re-experience these legendary games in a revolutionary way :D

mods are probably not going to be happening in the Quake 2 port, not unless you're playing as a client only, or they have actually been recompiled for linux (and I believe for the arm arch as well). Quake 1 is still the greatest fps of all time :) I've been playing with SDL quake since I bought my N900. Ill definately have to look into this new version...

Do you mean Maemo Extras-devel repository? I would like to run Quake 1 (and Quake 2) on my N900, with HWA :) But i haven't seen any Quake 1 or 2 apps in app.manager.

...not anymore... Ith was there, I know, I've tried it, but it was the N8XX version with no hwa.

I'd try quake 3 (ioquake) but I'm sure it isn't as well optimized (control wise) as open arena.

Hello,

Now that OpenGL ES 1.1 is available for the N900, is anyone working on porting Quake and Quake 2? I have Quake Trilogy installed on my N82 and would love to have the Trilogy on my N900. If I was as tech saavy as some of you all, I would do it myself and share with the community. I am willing to donate to whoever is able to make working versions. The S60 FP1 HW Accelerated versions are fantastic.

I read your message before I posted and what you supplied is a way to get a version of Quake from another device to work on the N900.

What I and others are asking is for a Maemo 5 version of the PC Q and QII just in the same fashion as the Q3 from the repositories that takes advantage of the N900 hardware.

I have Quake installed and I am trying to runthe game full screen. I see on the page you linked that I have to edit the config file to hardcode the resolution but I cannot access the config file.

Is there anyone available to help me edit the config file? If I copy and paste the info that is in the link above, it doesn't work, even with root and sudo gainroot.

both quake and quake2 are available for the N900. all of this stuff can be manually installed, bit of a pain, but it all works. one only needs the binaries below and the demo or retail game data files.

being a quakeworld and quake2 player myself, what i'd personally love to see, are arm ports of the greatly enhanced clients used in the competative quake and quake2 communities, with opengl support. sources of these windows/linux clients are ofcourse available as demanded by the gnu gpl.

open xterm, type in:

sdlquake -winsize 800 480

hit enter

if you're talking about the console in game, I'm not sure it works. As the same handle would be used to resize the game in options, and when I tried to adjust the screen size in options it had no effect.

using the console in quake for any input involving numbers etc is quite a pain, its best to set all variables by using the command line or editing config files.

One other downside to this method of getting quake 1 and 2, is that packages are not optified. Bit of a bummer. If someone could repackage Quake SDL, that would be sweet.

F2thaK, are you using a bluetooth zeemote in your youtube video of Quake on the N900?

This is an Optified Version of Quake 1 !!! A user on a german forum made it, so thanks goes to him ;)
Screensize should be optified too

And here is a customized config. controls are optified for german layout, don't know how us layout fits to that...

App manager will say it did not install but when you go to your more menu you will see the icon there.

Turns out the reason I couldnt install it was because my deb file was corrupt. I downloaded it again and now everthing works. My only gripe now is that it seems to be the shareware version. I have Quake Trilogy so I was using my files for the other sdlquake MMC and it would load the full game from my quake folder. How can I get this version to load my pak files?

Sorry for bumping this thread but I have a problem with this quake version:
I have a french N900 (AZERTY keyboard) http://natisbad.org/N900/img/n900-az...ard-scaled.png and there is no UP and DOWN keys, FN + RIGHT/DOWN don't work in sdlquake so I can perfectly start a new game and play once I remaped the in-game keys for my keyboard layout but i can't navigate in the menus without changing my keyboard layout to English, wich is boring, so is there a trick to remap menus keys for quake ?

Could someone PLEASE help me out?

I've installed sdlquake, and everything is fine except one thing. I go into the menu to change the controls but there's no key that takes me back to the main menu so I can't start a game with customized controls...

I've tried all keys, and I've looked in the autoexec.cfg... no joy!!

How do I go back to the main menu after customizing the controls in the options menu?

You bug the developer until he does this
