N900, exchange 2003 and folders confirmation please

hi everybody, hope you are all well.

i would like somebody who has done this for real to confirm if the N900 with the latest MfE package synchronises the following with exchange 2003 (MUST be 2003, not 2007)

a) mail WITH folders (i.e. user defined folders asides from the inbox - not fussed about public folders)

b) contacts

c) calendar

d) to do list

e) notes

would be much appreciated - thanks!

thanks for this saturn, i am already trwaling though both those threads.

i just really want someone who has actually already got their n900 hooked up to say yes or no to what really does work and what doesnt.

Yes, I synchronise mail (Inbox plus several other folders - use mfefolders to select which to synch), contacts, calendar and to-do list. Notes don't seem to be synchronising though.

The wiki is written by actual users (people who own and use the n900) and it's not a copy from marketing material. :)

In the wiki there is a table summarising your questions - here is a direct link: http://wiki.maemo.org/Mail_for_Excha...or_the_N900.3F

thanks guys for this.

just to summarise, N900 MfE (mail for exchange) does indeed work on exchange 2003. confirmed by users.

i also got this thread on another forum, explains a bit more in detail

Hi,

Is mfefolders supposed to take a long time to start. Mine opens after 30 seconds but closes again after about 30 seconds before i can finish unchecking all the hundreds of folders.

Any advise please

Shouldn't take long, no. When I run it, I get a popup message advising closing the Mail app and disabling synchronisation, then it displays the list of folders straight-away (no more than a couple of seconds). I only have 20-30 folders though, so it may depend on numbers.

This is with MfEfolders v0.23

In that case, you'd best try contacting the author. The web page for the project is at https://garage.maemo.org/projects/mfefolders/ - either file a bug there, or email the developer directly.

I'm on Exchange 2003....

It syncs everything from your list except notes, but I didn't had Notes sync on WM, so it seems it is normal.

By default it syncs all folders in your mailbox and you will need to install MfEfolders to uncheck Junk and other foders you don't want synced...

Hope it helps

Hi !
It syncs everything except Notes BUT there are some caveat!

I'm having problems with calendar & task (they're linked in the settings) probably due to the presence of recurring events on the Exchange 2003/Outlook calendar. So I cannot use it until I get rid of all of them and I stopped using it until they fix this.
See this link for the bug related: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7971 and vote for the bug !

I didn't try public folder sync (I 'm not sure it does, probably not but also on widows mobile you can't usually sync them ).
There is an app to choose what folder and subfolders you want to sync.
The only thing is that you don't have a tree structure of the folders on N900 but only a plain one.

In mine, mfefolders app closes also after a while. Didn't time it but it is something like a couple of minutes max. I had to open it several times to complete my ideal setup.

The good thing is that it writes immediately the changes in the db so they are not lost when it crashes. The bad is that you need to start from the top of the list and scroll slowly down - but that scrolling a long list is a general issue for Meamo 5 in my opinion. Finally, the ugly is that it doesn't show the tree structure of the folders and subfolders but it just gives a flat list.

I don't complain, on the contrary I really appreciate and thank THavoc for his work. Without his app, MfE would not work at all for me because of those Modest bugs.

Could you let me know which version are you using? Also, if you're able to reproduce it 100%, please start it from terminal (run-standalone.sh python2.5 /opt/mfefolders/mfefolders.py) so if you get an error it will remain displayed, and paste it here (or file a bug on the project page, link in my sig)

I'm also looking into how to re-create the folder structure, but I couldn't find a tree widget on the N900 yet, so any hack would look quite ugly.
