Time Zone on only recieved SMS conversations incorrect?

Hi guys,

I just bought the n900 and it's great but I ran into bit of a problem regarding Conversations and SMS-

Somehow, every message I recieve is timestamped 5 Hours behind my time. I live in Toronto, Canada and my settings for Time and Date + World Clock are all set to reflect my time zone (+5 GMT) When I reply, it posts the correct time.

Example-

But, if I click on any of the received messages.. it shows two time stamps as seen below, the one to the right being the correct one.

I've double checked all the basic settings and nothing points to a solution. Perhaps the code can be changed to display the second, correct time stamp as the primary one? Any help would be tremendously appreciated!

Cheers!

I also have this problem, it seems to be caused by the network (for example, Rogers), not Maemo.

I am using a Rogers sim card, so that could very well be it. Thank you very much! I needed that bit of reassurance.

That doesn't work buddy. My advice is to put the "london, uk" timezone for those using rogers. Despite it's another country, it'll show the right time.

Changing the timezone is a mere band-aid solution...what needs to be done is for Rogers/Fido to fix it. I suggest sending an email to them. Quite a lot of people actually have this issue (try a google search) but it doesn't seem Rogers are paying any attention.

I had this problem. Now I've fixed this by this technique.Goto settings and "Restore Original settings" then device will reboot. On startup just change the time to your correct time zone time. Now see if the problem present or not.If the problem is still present then goto settings "Date and time" and check "Update automatically"

the problem is not in the phone, but in the sms center. see more info here:

Just got a N900, time isn't correct on text messages?

I just got a N900 for my wife. She loves the phone but tells me that the time isn't correct on all the text messages. It seems to be using the GMT time zone for time stamps. I have the correct time zone setup in the time/date and selected automatically update. Any ideas?

thanks.

I have the same problem, only on incoming sms messages. Never been able to resolve it. On my N82 it could be resolved by ignoring carrier time.

We can't be the only two who have this issue. No one can answer this?

I've got an update with this. My wife went to a Rogers store and the people actually blamed the problem on the phone. That's funny because I'm in US here on T-mobile and I can put my sim card into the same phone and all text messages received have the correct times. I did the script hack but it does not change the time stamp of the text when you open them individually. Not sure what else to do other than getting a Rogers specific phone.

Re: Time Zone on only recieved SMS conversations incorrect?

I'm not looking for a band-aid sorry. Changing the timezone to 0 will mess up all the appointments in the calendar and alarms! This defeats the purchase. Rogers blamed it hard on the phone when my wife was at the Rogers store. Thanks Mr. Rogers. Rogers is running some wacky config and all their Rogers specific phones are pre-configured to compensate for their wacky SMS center settings. The guy kept making the point that the time stamp is correct on their Blackberry and my wife's old Nokia MusicExpress 5500. BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT! I bet I can go up there with my unlocked Motorola V195 and get the same wrong time stamp. The problem remains unresolved and my wife has called Nokia to see about resolving this. This story continues... and I will give some updates after Nokia calls her to troubleshoot the problem.
