Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I bought the N900 used but in new condition with Zagg screen protector already on but with couple of scratches and little bubbles that were not a big deal.
I order the TrueVue anti-glare screen protector from Amazon.com took three days for delivery, first thing i did was to take off the previous protector (zagg) and apply the new one. All four edges were not sticking for some reason. i was not happy with this screen protector that i decided not to use one. Had it like this for a week, i have maybe three small hairline scratches that are only visible if you point it directly to the light. Screen looks awesome without screen protector and feels good too. Im sure i will get more scratches but i prefer the regular feel that the rubbery. |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I don't have screen protector on but I bought nokia leather case for it.
|
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I never use screen protectors. Such things remind me of peolple with couches wrapped in plastic.
|
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
Couches wrapped in plastic :) lol! i see that all the time
|
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
no screen protector, no scratches everything is fine :)
|
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
Still dithering about it (since late November) haven't got one yet, but always keep it in pouch when not in use.
|
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
No screen protector either, but I did order one a month ago and I'm yet to receive it. But so far no scratches.
|
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
As readers of this forum are well aware the N900 is getting close to the end of its life. Since mobile devices are obsolete so quickly there seems little point in bothering with screen protection.
|
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
Haha Screen protectors lol. I never used one of those. Instead of scratching the screen (which is mor resilient btw), you scratch the protector, ok. But does it look better this way?
Ok , you COULD take it of, but you won't :) unless you want to sell it in "almost new" condition. Then i understand it. But i plan to use it for a year min. |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
i wouldnt dare use the n900 without one , this is just my opinion :-)
the screen is really soft and ive seen how easy they can scratch either via the stylus or a piece of dust being touched and dragged by your finger is all it takes i use these ones cheap , good quality and easy to put on , also a very good fit as they cover the whole front of the phone http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3X-LCD-Screen-...item2558214a18 its personal choice but a scracthed screen would annoy me a hell of alot more then a screen protector :-) its cheaper to replace too lol |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I considered buying one, but couldnt be bothered.. had the n900 for 2months now, and still no visible scratches. So im happy. :)
|
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
No screen protector but I often cut my nails :D
|
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
got one of those TrueVue ones i think.
it does reflect more than the screen, and loves finger smudges...but I think the stylus slides easier on it. On the screen, the stylus seemed to grab abit....dunno, maybe i just needed to clean it after taking of the thin screen protector out of the box. ..plastic on couches.lol, thats piss funny. |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I own a multitude of Nokia phones/tablets, namely....
N95, N97, E90, E71 N810, N900 I have never used a screen protector... I simply keep them in cases with soft/velvet lining. Over time, they do develop scratches.. but these are only visible at a specific angle in direct light (i.e if you are really trying hard to find them). My opinion is , screen protectors are not required if you are generally careful with your phones. |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
just when i realized that the n900 display is so damn damageable i bought a sixpack screenprotectors from amazon.
(because i knew that i'm getting trouble with mounting them as i hadn't done this before to my other mobile phones) so i messed up two of them by trying to mount them just the way they are without any helping tools. the third one went without problem because i sprayed some glasses cleaner on the display on which the protector could glide above. then i was able to move it around the display for getting it to fit 100%. after some hours the alcohol in the cleaner was gone and the protector was mounted perfectly on my display. i'm very happy with it especially when i imagine that the little scratches wouldn't be on the protector but on the display itself. couldn't live without one. and just for reselling purposes it might be a clever draw :) |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I bought a ScreenProtector (exim UltraClear) two weeks ago. I noticed 2 small scratches on my screen. They are very small, but when turning the N900 under (sun)light, you can see it in a few positions.
Don't know where are the scratches from. I took the N900 as only thing in my trouser pocket. No keys or coins etc. |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I am still dithering on the screen protector. Mine is 6 weeks old and no scratches. I also keep it in a pouch or front trouser pocket and never keep keys or coins in the same pocket.
|
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
had mine a few weeks now and i dont use one and never will imo they destroy the feel and look of the phone i dont use a case either i just make sure it has a pocket of its own i.e not shared with my keys i done this will all my phones in the past and never scratch them. i never keep a phone for more than 18 months so they never look bad ar the end of there life. if i was to scratch the screen i would just replace the screen. they are not so avaliable yet but give it a couple of months you will find new screens (the plastic over the actual screen) for a few quid on a certain auction site. and at the end of the day its a phone

Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
No protector, but in CP-321 when not in use, no scratches either.
I did try one, quite expensive too, but didn't like the responsivness. |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
Ok, quick story....Chopping down trees in my garden didn't notice tiny tiny chip in finger nail...scrolling webpage later on n900 by flicking finger up screen and drew a long deep scratch into screen protector that must have nearly gone through to actual screen!!...Never used 'protection' before but glad i did this time.
I may take it off when replacement screens are cheap and available...until then 'keep it covered boys'...er, and girls! ;-) |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
Had my N900 a couple of months now, no protectors or cases or anything. It's been lobbed around all over the place and is holding up perfectly fine :)
|
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
lol thats funny man. i do it too.
|
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I'm not using protection. Never do. My N810 is still as good as new, and the N900 really does not show any signs of use. The earpiece (?) collects dust, as do the edges.
I did try a screen protector (nice fit and all) but it spoiled the look for me, so I took it off. |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I used my N900 without protection and got some small scratches in less than a month under right thumb (where all the web page scrolling happens), because of my girlish, long fingernails.
Fast check on my previous phone HTC Tytn (without screen protection) confirmed that the screen was full of scratches, so I decided to buy the protecting film. Cheapest and fastest one (Insmat) was in local operator store where I bought the phone, 2 for only 5 euros. Installation was easy and went perfectly at first run. I couldn't believe, that the protector just went on almost by itself after reading user experiences from forums. The protector itself works like a charm. Surface is bit harder than the original screen so it's a bit less sticky, if I remember correctly. Slide also fit almost perfectly and I had hard time to even notice the extra layer on the screen right after work. There's no holes other than the speaker, so it might cause some problems with sensors and camera, but I haven't noticed anything. Without screen on there is some color effect on the screen, kind of like oil in water, but usually it isn't visible. Long post and almost off topic. =/ Well anyway, I'm happy for buying this 'cause the screen feels bit better and it takes some weight off your shoulders. =) E: After 7 months I decided to buy a better screen protector because the surface in cheap one took some damage in only few months. Damage didn't go through the film so it still protected n900 screen, but it was bit awkward to use after scratches. |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I dont use a screen protector but do carry the phone in a case. I agree with the other post about sofa's covered in plastic.
|
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I had used it for 2 months without a screen protector. No scratches or dirt.
Last week I received a Brando N900 screen protector as a gift and applied it. No problems with touchscreen sensitivity, colors or brightness, though I feel that it attracts dust and dirt more than the bare screen. |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
No screen protector nor lather crap case...:) anyway, those screen protectors remind me of that remote controlers wrapped in plastic.
anyway..it is great like this, no scratches at all...just dont put keys and n900 in same pocket... |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I don't like screen protectors. So everytime I get a new device I head to
http://www.raedan.de/ order one of their nice cases and be fine. The mobiles are looking like their a new this way. |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
Yup me...i did buy the one from ZAGG , but i don't use it. Just too hard to apply and i clean my screen every day so i don't really care. As long as my screen works...i'm well.

Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
At the moment I'm not using any screen protector. I lost the ones that I had (DQC-160 and ARMR200). I'll be careful and try not to get any screen scratches.
|
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I was using it without one and made sure I never kept anything in the same pocket with the N900 but have still ended up with two very very large and nasty scratches so would not recommend anyone uses it without a screen protector. Doubt there is anything in the world that scratches as easily as this.

Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I'm not using a screen protector on the N900 either. A few days ago though, I did not realize I was still holding the pencil I used for jotting down notes before. Of course, I used it as a stylus for a minute or so before noticing so and abruptly waking up with two tiny scratches on my screen.
Screen protectors for the N900 begin to sound like a rather good idea right now. You might have to consider it as well, if you regularly have to get out of bed way before you are actually ready to. ;) My N800 still has the same scratchy, bubbly protector it has had for years. I put that one on immediatly after removing the sales-package-thingy which sufficed for about two weeks. |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
Having scratched my N97 on the first day of owning it and it kept on getting scratched some quite badly, these scratches were bad enough to affect the picture quality giving a rainbow effect when viewing a white screen. So I bought a Zagg protector which hid the scratches. The Zagg looked bad but gave the phone a better grip when holding it so you were less likely to drop it, the protector also picked up dirt really well and always needed cleaning, so I would not recommend one.
I have used the N900 for six weeks without a protector but in a CP-321 case. But now if you hold it up to the light you can notice some micro scratches, not bad enough to affect the picture quality. I have also felt dust being ground around under the style, which makes me worried enough to lock the screen and give it a good clean. So I decided I wasn’t going to take any more chances, I looked on ebay and found some protectors. They were only 99p for three (each with a cleaning rag), delivered direct from Hong Kong. For 99p I thought your having a laugh but I would take a chance, if they didn’t turn up or they were rubbish it wouldn’t matter as they were so cheap. But three weeks later they arrive by airmail. Installation was a doddle; clean screen with cloth, peal off protecting film and apply to phone. Oh, if only the Zagg had been this easy, it fell onto the screen perfectly (felt almost like a static cling not sticky), no repositioning no air bubbles. Prefect! Peal off second protecting film and I was done. The protector sounds the same as the one Tesno used, it has a slight oily look when screen is off. I don’t think it picks up finger prints any more easily. It does feel smoother, it also has a mirror smooth surface; unlike the Zagg; so has a much better reflection – no ripples. Other than the 1mm gap around the edge and around the speaker hole you wouldn’t know it is there. I haven’t had it on long enough to see how scratch resistant it will be, but first impressions it feels good and I have another two if it does get scratched. I would recommend one, it’s the best 33p value for money wise I have spent in a long while. As for everyone who doesn’t what to use one, that’s fine if you are always in a clean environment; but I work in a dusty environment and my pockets get dust in then. I always keep my phone in a pocket by itself. I only need to accidentally put my keys in the same pocket once (and in the past I have done) and irreversible damage can/has been done. 33p is way less than the cost of a new screen. All my phones eventually have gotten scratched, and the last few I have bought have all been expensive and I have been gutted when it happens. I know this may seem like a advert - it's not I'm just realy please my phone is safe :) They say the meek will inherit the earth – they won’t, the Chinese will! ;) http://shop.ebay.co.uk/mhestore2009/...dkw=&_osacat=0 They look like thesehttp://elebility.suntekstore.com/ima...69_9_image.jpg |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I don't use a screen protector, and there are no scratches. I make sure there's no grains of any kind stuck to the surface (as that could scratch the screen if pushed around), if necessary I carefully clean the screen with water+some soap, or spectacles cleaner fluid. This approach worked well for my N800 and I've no reason to think it won't work fine with the N900 too.

Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
i dont have protectors on my n900s, but after seeing and touching one on friday i will be getting some.
dont even know who produced it, it just appeared to look and feel right still. |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I don't use a screen protector. It's pretty much like a pocket protector for the modern age. Just be clean, or stop caring about a perfect screen.

I always use screen protector and even on my tablet PC so that I can abuse them with fingernail, stylus, cleaning cloth, tissue paper and etc and have no worry. |
Re: Anybody else is using the N900 without screen protector?
I have a cheap 7 for like £3 screen protector kit, tried two out to apply the screen protector correctly, then the third i properly put on and i peeled the bottom right corner just so i can easily take it off (its not noticable either!)
I've been very happy with the quality of the screen protectors, and there doing there job dam well! No scratches on the n900 screen yet! and no real loss of response either, |
