Which OS?
and which version of mplayer you are using? (type mplayer in the terminal). |
Re: How to run mplayer?
how did you try? coz mine is fine, instead loving it than the built-in media player coz of various options its just that one has to give command from x-terminal

Re: How to run mplayer?
Player Version is Mplayer SVN-r30099-4.2.1
I tried running it by typing "mplayer moviename.mp4" in the terminal while being in the directory where the movie is stored. |
Re: How to run mplayer?
that's the current version all right.
can you try with different file, preferably simple avi? |
Re: How to run mplayer?
I just tried with an avi file, as you recommended. I get the same error message. However I noted that i also get this error message, when I mistyped the filename so that the file did not even exist. That's pretty strange isnt it?

Re: How to run mplayer?
You type "mplayer filename.extenstion" to run it.

Re: How to run mplayer?
if you don't want to run it in xterm download kmplayer. This will give you a basic graphical frontend

Re: How to run mplayer?
Yeah, just use SiB and don't use the CLI. Makes mplayer very accessible.

Open xterm use CD to change your directory to where your video is stored LS to view what's in that directory To "run" mplayer you simply use mplayer nameofmovie.movieextension. So if I have umm the movie Gamer on my external memory card I would do; cd /media/mmc1/Video/ (Becuase I store my video's in a Video directory, you can store them just about anywhere). mplayer Gamer.m4v Like others have said though. If you don't want to mess with CLI then just use one of the two GUI front ends. I used KVMPlayer a couple times but I still use CLI myself. Hope that helps a little more. |
