U.S. developers -- anyone received a code?

Wondering if any U.S. developers have received a code for purchase of an N800 as part of the developer device program . . .

Not me. They're supposed to have been sent out by now. So I guess I'm not on the list! :)

(Just kidding - they're probably just delayed. Or maybe my spam filter ate them up!)

Why would you, it's not like you've developed any applications that are useful to people :D!

I haven't either, but I'm not really holding my breath for one. I sure wouldn't mind getting my hands on one for that price though. Personaly, I'd think Nokia could have handled it a bit more professionally by reviewing developers on a more personal level, have more thorough reviews, and extend the program indefinitely.

Maybe you are on their blacklist because you are creating the COMPETING navigation application... MaemoMapper. Just think how much $$$ they could have earned more if no MaemoMapper existed? :)

Fortunately (for me), I'm not holding my breath either. I don't have any special plans for Maemo Mapper on the n800. Even at the developer price, I don't really want one. I'll only get it so that I can provide proper support on it for Maemo Mapper.

Don't get me wrong, the extra CPU and memory will be great, I'm sure... But no cover? How the hell am I supposed to carry that thing in my pocket? I can't be the only person that wears slacks or jeans with pockets big enough to hold a 770.

No thanks... My fiancee can have my n800. I already told her that she can have it on the stipulation that she allow me to use it whenever I need to test Maemo Mapper. :)

I guess time is of the element, and Nokia don't seem to have sufficient resources to develop and maintain the ITT/Maemo projects (well, that's always the excuse when Bugzilla doesn't recieve any Nokia love for a month or more). To vet all the worthy developers would probably take months and resources Nokia don't have available.

My guess is Nokia chose high profile developers then opted for mostly systematic selection after that (chat users, active in bugzilla). I guess it shows that it actually pays to report bugs - you'd now have a cheap N800! :) It's also possible to email a certain Nokian with a plea - check the posts in gmane.comp.handhelds.maemo.devel. If anyone doesn't know how to check that, they shouldn't be on the list! :D

A good tip has been posted in gmane.comp.handhelds.maemo.devel - check your spam folders. I know for a fact that Thunderbird has the potential to mark the Nokia email as spam and move it to your junk folder.

The subject will be

"This Nokia N800 discount code is for you"

and it should originate from

team at maemo dot org

Funny, my discount code was marked as spam, too.

Hm-m. No U.S. developers with codes yet? Nearly midnight in Helsinki.

QuimGil writes:

"The maemo team wants to close the program asap - hopefully the last codes will be sent on Friday 26th January."

Sounds like they won't have too many decisions to make in the "second and final round."

Nothing in my box (spam or otherwise).

FWIW, nothing in my boxes.

Re: U.S. developers -- anyone received a code?

I haven't received any code as well, and I have asked US developers (well, non-European, which is mostly US, I think) on the #maemo IRC channel, and they haven't received a discount code as well.

I sent e-mail to maemo-developers last night requesting an update for non-European developers, and while there was no official update, a Nokia employee unofficially indicated to me that the discount codes for non-European developers have not gone out yet.

Well, either my evangelist credentials are good enough or the lack of progress on my e-book-browser plugin project wasn't discouraging. But I got my code a little while ago. (Hooray!)

Great to hear Roger! Hope the others start pouring in...

Congratulations Roger. Can't wait to find out who else got one.

Re: U.S. developers -- anyone received a code?

Ok, I have received *two* codes! The first one was an EU code, and when I went to nokiausa.com to order the N800, the code wasn't recognized. Quim.Gil at Nokia said they would swap out the EU code for a US code.

Today I got my US code. At first it wasn't accepted at nokiausa.com either, but then I tried typing it in by hand instead of cut-n-pasting from the email message and it was accepted.

However, after clicking the final "submit" button on the order request, I got a message saying "There has been a problem processing the order, please call us at 1-866-xxx-yyyy" I tried two different credit cards (MC, Visa) just to make sure the problem wasn't on my end.

So, I called the number. The guy at the other end couldn't help me because the coupon code is for "online orders only." (Even though the number I called answered "thank you for calling the nokiausa.com help line.") They eventually bumped me over to some other customer service rep.

The new rep finally talked to a "supervisor" and they agreed that the US coupon was valid. For some reason they couldn't put in the order, so they created another order on nokiausa.com themselves. Of course, it didn't go through either, so I was put on hold while they went off to debug their ordering system. They hung up on me after a while, as luck would have it.

So, I called 866.NOKIA.blah.blah.blah again. This time the rep went through the entire thing again, and finally after talking to another supervisor said "Sir, we're going to have to call you back. We are the Nokia Fulfillment Center, we are not Nokia. It looks like the codes are real but we don't have them yet. That means while it is accepted on the website, you can't use it. We will have to call Nokia to get the codes transferred and then you can order your device."

And that's how they left it. Anyone else have a similar story? They said 2-3 other people have called in with the same issues.

:(

Re: U.S. developers -- anyone received a code?

I know I am in Europe, Madrid Spain to be exact, just to advise that I was fortunate to receive a code late this afternoon. I have already ordered my N800 and am looking forward to seeing how AV Media streaming will be improved as Canola, Media Streamer and the underlying OS, browser and open source applications develop etc. (Not to mention the Internet browsing experience generally, which was already good on my Nokia 770)

---edit---Sorry to hear people are having problems using their codes in the States, just seen post about problem after posting.
