no news on the classic game pad uhm? :-)

Re: Use WiiMote as Bluetooth Gamepad or Remote Control (Working with Dr.NokSnes!)

no idea... i bought 2 wiimotes yesterday i wanted to try it so bad, and i got it working!!

i dont own a wii so dont know about classic pad...

but from what i can tell, classic pad has a cable and therefore doesnt support bluetooth, so im pretty certain they wont work.....

see below (part of wiicontrol) config file, you can only map certain buttons. you can see button B is missing..?

Code:

.........mapping={
    'U': ["a Left"],      # dpad left
    'D': ["a Right"],      # dpad right
    'L': ["a Down"],      # dpad down
    'R': ["a Up"],      # dpad up
    'A': ["a s"],      # A
    '+': ["k F7"],      # volume +
    '-': ["k F8"],      # volume -
    '1': ["a a"],      # 1
    '2': ["a w"],        # 2
    'H': ["a x"],        # start
    'GU': ["a Up"],        # gyro up
    'GD': ["a Down"],        # gyro down
    'GL': ["a Left"],        # gyro left
    'GR': ["a Right"],        # gyro right

 .............

Re: Use WiiMote as Bluetooth Gamepad or Remote Control (Working with Dr.NokSnes!)

the Classic Pad connects to the WiiMote via the cable, not to the Wii itself.

Therefore the controls from the Classic Pad must be transfered to the console via Bluetooth using the standard WiiMote connection.

If should theoritically be possible to interpret these controls on the N900.

Re: Use WiiMote as Bluetooth Gamepad or Remote Control (Working with Dr.NokSnes!)

It depends on what your idea of "working" is. Having a randomish lag to all your button presses from 20ms to 500ms is not what I would consider working unfortunately... and there's nothing that can be done to fix it except use a different Bluetooth based controller.

I am trying to troubleshoot some issues I am having with this. Namely it won't always stay connected to the remote. Is there a sequence that works everytime? Must I turn on BT, then hit 1+2 then start wiicontrol? I get to that point then I cannot click on any of the options and it will disconnect itself after a few moments. It did work yesterday (too well - the wiimote wouldn't disconnect itself) but now, nothing.

Re: Use WiiMote as Bluetooth Gamepad or Remote Control (Working with Dr.NokSnes!)

these steps work for me 95% of the time:
  1. enable BlueTooth, with visibility ON
  2. press a button on WiiMote
  3. open WiiControl
  4. repeatedly press the 1+2 buttons together, until it says connected
  5. if you want gyros on, press "gamepad+gyros" button then press a button on WiiMote
  6. then it should work!! :D

This is really weird. I am still getting the same thing - i.e. it will work for a few moments then disconnect (I am unable to click on any of the options in wiicontrol but I can change the volume). This is ridiculous.

Up until a few moments ago, it was N900. So it worked for a few minutes again - managed to get in DrNokSnes but then the stupid wiimote shut itself down again :eek:
Perplexing. I don't know if the wiimote I have is just unstable or if there is some software conflict here...

Mean apt-get install wiicontrol ? I know - that is what I did initially and that is how I worked out that Transitioncontrol was interfering ;)

The daft thing seems installed allright. It just doesn't like me! Wish I had another wiimote (or a wii) to try it out, but, alas...

you could try "apt-get upgrade" to see if ur missing dependencies

or try charging wiimote and/or press sync button....

Re: Use WiiMote as Bluetooth Gamepad or Remote Control (Working with Dr.NokSnes!)

Big thanks I had it working but not fully for the longest time. Never really bothered though. But I saw you put an icon up there for wiicontrol. I've downloaded it, stuck it into the icon/hildon/48x48/ etc. folder, and even pointed the .desktop entry for it to the icon, but no dice.

Could you briefly describe how you got the wiicontrol icon functioning?

BINGO. Thanks. I looked at the contents of that one and mine, and saw that besides formatting they were almost indentical. Anyway nice to have the icon there now. Was the only app that didn't have one on mine.

Re: Use WiiMote as Bluetooth Gamepad or Remote Control (Working with Dr.NokSnes!)

Very nicely organized. I just got mine all setup and scripts written for all my ssh and VNC needs, so now I'm going to start getting it all decked out for gaming. I have all of the things you listed with the excetion of duke nukem 3d, and doom 2 as I don't legally own them.

I've been playing Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III though for sometime now on mine. Making some good progress. It's funny I wanted to play FFIII for a long time, as when I was younger I could never get it. And now I'm experiencing it through my n900. Pretty amazing.

When I'm off work, I'm going to try to get the wiimote to work with UGM. That would be amazing. I'd fight so much better in that game this way. hahahaha.

How To Configure Controls
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

you need to edit "/usr/bin/wiicontrol" file.

scroll to section shown below. (In _CODE-CODE_ section)

"mapping" section is for gamepad only mode

to change a specific button, (e.g. gamepad mode "A" button) you need to change only the key name within the ["a ???"] section, ??? being the key name. (e.g. 'A': ["a Q"] would set button A to the Q key.)

then in your games/apps just set the keys to whichever you set.

this should work!

Hi,
that sounds reall fun, but I am unsure about how to move the files in those folders in the N900.
They are not shown in the normal file manager, right?
Also, the "help" hyperlink directs me to some very confusing stuff... is it the only way to do this?

Thanks in advance. If there is no other way, then I ll just put my brain to work ^^

Re: Use WiiMote as Bluetooth Gamepad or Remote Control (Working with Dr.NokSnes!)

Hello,

...and thank you all for this next wow moment in my life with the N900! Tried Wiicontrol yesterday together with DrNokSNES and it works like a charm..

My only problem is: I keep hitting the B button together with the dpad while playing Mario Kart, which kicks me out of the game and sends me back to the main screen of DrNokSNES. Is there a way to prevent it from using mapping_b together with mapping_snes and/or mapping_l etc.? Or do I have to set mapping_b to screen taps or similar :)?

Re: Use WiiMote as Bluetooth Gamepad or Remote Control (Working with Dr.NokSnes!)

I originally thought the B button didnt work but it seems to be a shift like button. B + Left is exit and B + Down is fullscreen I think... Havent tried disabling this but the setting is in the wiicontrol file, have a look.

Re: Use WiiMote as Bluetooth Gamepad or Remote Control (Working with Dr.NokSnes!)

I tried a few things, including commenting out

Code:

pressed[bb]=True
in

Code:

            for bb in buttons:
              if (Wii.buttonmask & buttonmap[bb]):
                  if (Wii.buttonmask & buttonmap["B"]):
                      ExecuteScript(mapping_b[bb])
                      pressed[bb]=True
                  else:
                      ExecuteScript(mapping[bb])
                      pressed[bb]=True

              elif (not (Wii.buttonmask & buttonmap[bb])):
                      if pressed[bb]==True:
                          pressed[bb]=False
                          ExecuteReleasedScript(mapping[bb])
                          device.display_state_on()

and sending all mapping_b to a single (unused) key. But all of these efforts did not change anything.

Any more ideas?

f2thak,

I have a different keyboard layout which requires me to use key-combos in order to input the up and down arrow.

As I mentioned in my post:

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...3&postcount=27

I have different symbols where you have the up and down arrow, namely a scandinavian letter "ae" and puntuation mark.

Due to this problem I'm only able to input down and right with the wiimote.
