cpumem-applet or load-applet?

Which is better?

I know load-applet slows down your OS, but does cpumem-applet do the same?

cpumem-applet didn't work at all for me.
but you may want to try both of them and decide for yourself which one suits you more;)

Hmm, any info you can share about cpumem-applet not working for you?

The cpumem-applet and load-applet regarding to cpu/mem bars at status-area are identical, so they either both work, nor neither works... :) So far I've heard 0 reports of cpumem-applet not working.

If you find a way to reproduce, file a bug at cpumem-applet at bugs.maemo.org

Heh, cpumem-applet is very minimalistic and wastes very very little cpu. It once a second updates its tiny icon, and thats it. I'm not aware of cpumem-applet causing any slowing down, other than making you actually realize when the device is CPU bound (by some other app).

first i had load-applet installed.
wanted to try cpumem, uninstalled load-applet and installed cpumem.
even after some reboots it didn't show up in the status-bar as it should?!
(don't know if it was under PR1.0 or PR1.1... i will try it again and report! maybe it was just some weird thing going on in 1.0 ^^)

edit: works now. no differences for me. it's just the same. (the screenshot and video capture capabilities make no difference in cpu usage at all. just for users who want a lightweight app (regarding the rootfs usage ^^).)

will try the maemo5-load-applet. :)

Both are the same when come to display cpu and memory usage. The only difference between both apart from displaying usage is the the load applet has a screenshot and video cast feature built in. You'll see the cpumem-applet is the strip down version of the original load applet if you look at the details in application manager

This sounds like you installed version 0.0.1 from devel which didn't load correctly, but extras-devel stuff by definition is not ready. 0.0.3 (in extras now) passed with flying colors the testing QA and there has not been a need to release newer version as nothing is broken.

I perfer load-applet since it has the screen shot and video cast right there. Guess I just perfer to hit a button for a screen shot than doing the keyboard shortcut

thx.
so i will install it without this functionalities because i don't need two additional buttons in the statusbar dropdown menu.

shift + crtl + p for screenshot does its job (and i don't use this often...).

btw: maemo5-load-applet doesn't even show up in the statusbar... -.-'

Re: cpumem-applet or load-applet?

I really hope the video cast for load-applet works soon. It can be very handy for all the people who make apps on maemo. They make a new app than video cast how the app works and how to use it and can talk during the video too. This will really help noobs to use more advanced apps thus making them true power users on this site and with testing apps that they don't have a clue what it is or does. But so far loving load-applet!

It seems to me that the screen/video capture feature should be a separate app, so I like the idea of cpumem-applet doing one thing well.

I used spb screenshot alot with my winmo phone to show the screen and error stuff wrong with an app and posted it on the forum so the maker can see what I was talking about when I had a problem with an app. So for me the screenshot in the statusbar is a GOD send lol

True for some which why it's a strip down version of the app but the screenshot and video cast in the statusbar works well for me. So big thanks for two versions I say

This is one of the best sides in free, open source applications - you are not relying on some apps maintainer alone, you can always fork and modify stuff to your needs. Not everyone agree, they can stick with original, some like the fork better etc. There is no winners (or rather, there is no losers) in this - everyone can get what they want :)

To those of you who claim that the load applet "slows down the device" - do you mind proving your statements?

Its been silent for 3 weeks, so bumping if anyone got any evidence of this I could look into.

Re: cpumem-applet or load-applet?

Do either of these show what applications are taking up what amount of memory? I installed cpumem and it shows the bars in the status bar (where the clock and signal strength are) but there is no cpumem in my applications menu.

My N900 has been running very slowly the last few days. I haven't installed anything in 1-2 weeks so it's strange that it's now that the slowness is showing. It did show a small lag after I installed Catorise but the last few days it's been really slow. I want to find out what apps use what amount of memory so I can uninstall some apps.

Re: cpumem-applet or load-applet?

Load applet clutters up the area which appears when I press the status area, so I use cpumem instead.

cpumem-applet is intentionally just the bars in status area, no menu items anywhere. This keeps the applet minimum, and as fast and light as possible.

Catorise just causes install-time lag, but doesn't cause runtime lag. Try "top" command, or more interactive htop app. Conky shows you load averages, disk partition info etc in a graphical manner. Perhaps one of them identifies the offender?

And obviously, reboot once in a while if you haven't done so already. :)

at first cpumem and load applet both the same, just images of icon another :D but each of app i find as nice app, i used at other times cpumem and load applet :D (also i try use these together and for me i find better load applet) and i wanna to thank for these nice apps.

before my question and i wanna to say that cpumem & load applet for my opinion works same - i red up there that in some devices cpumem load heavy or in some devieces load appled heavy, but n my opinion they twoo works as the same.

so now about my question - what about video cast? yea its nice that there is this feature, (and say u that my select is first situated for this feature, than screenshot or feature shows cpu&mem status) but its not working good, so its records my actions but very speedly, so when i'm watching video i cant see anything yet :D format of vide is AVI, but its not as other AVI videos :D may be there is some way in using video cast? or its now in developing?
