conversation zoom disappeared after PR1.1 update
 

Hi
ok i was able to use the volume rocker to actually zoom in and zoom out in the conversation screen. but i just noticed that it is not possible now..just need to know if this has been removed after PR1.1 or is der something wrong with my phone/?

Ug, they got rid of that. Too bad.

I don't know of any way to increase the font size (!).

noticed this bug, or rather, reduced functionality too. bigger fonts are always better :D

that is such a shame..u dont get new features ok bt pls dont let us loose the ones we bought with the phone...i hav a weak eyesight and i always use the max font size available..somewhere i can report this to be added or anything?

i would not call it a fix..the bug was that after zooming there should be text wrapping to include all the msg in a single view but what they do is do away with the zoom feature...can you tell me what high purpose does a volume key serve in an IM view...nothing...a zoom was definately more useful any day...terrible..this is like what they do in a government job in my country...if you cant completely fix it, remove it!!

Here's my experience with this bug:

My friend's boyfriend has an N900. She was thinking of getting one but said there was no way she could use it since the Conversations app's font is way too small. I then found that you could increase the font size with the volume rocker and let her know. She noted that the text wouldn't reflow when enlarged so I got in on the bug ticket.

Now I can tell her that not only doesn't it reflow anymore, the ability to zoom has been *completely* removed. So there's zero percent (0%) chance she can use a N900 now.

I'm glad this is fixed.

This was a bug and distorted the text, while zooming is great but not allowing you to see the full text making it useless.

Incorrect. You could see the text, you just had to scroll over.

Anyway, in sum, for people that don't have great eyesight Maemo 5 is unusable in it's current state.

I am kinda glad that they removed it but bummed out at the same time.. why? because, it's nice to zoom in if you dont want to to stare at the screen with small fonts (I never hd this problem but it's a nice option)... Anywyas using the volume keys was a pain because what if you have music and you to icrease/decrease volume.. IMO they should include the swirl zoom thing in there too.. this way it would make everyone happy... Or simply an option to turn the zoom (using volme keys) on or off...

why not just have an option inside conversations or even a global textsize option in settings
Then i could set it to a bit smaller font and then conversations and modest (email) would use that setting and show me more lines

i always wondered why the N900 show way less in the screen then my E90 did on its outer screen! when vieuwing emails

to give you an example of the font size i like to have in conversations and the email client.

this forum in classic style i can see in a none full screenmode 8 topics at the same time and those 8 topics have then a subject line and a line below what could be used in modest as the first line of the email. besides that i also have plenty space on the right for sender info and so on.

so the browser shows me in a default zoom perfect info in exactly the size i want. would love to have that in the other places

It's funny because I think the fonts are too big in general on N900, and especially in the conversations. I want to use the small font in the preview on the conversations main screen in the actual conversation itself. (In xterm I use Droid Sans Mono at 8 point :))

I wonder if the Conversations font size is hard-coded in the application or if it is inherited from somewhere else (for example maybe it can be changed in the active Theme or something?)

Yup, i just added "font-size: 8pt;" into the section "div.Message" in MessagingWidgetsChatConversation.css and it works like a charm.

Obviously you would have to do the same with MessagingWidgetsSingleSMS.css and MessagingWidgetsSMSConversation.css if you want to change those too.

Of course remember this is a hack, it wont hurt anything but it may be wiped or not work correctly in a future firmware update. I'm now even more in love with my N900 knowing I can tweak these sorts of things as CSS and HTML are the things I spend hours tweaking as it is.

Actually I added 8px not 8pt, now if I can only get a magnifying glass I might be able to read it. :p

Anyway, made mine nice and minimal now 14px (pt doesn't seem to work after all).

but still all this is a hack..what about the actual functionality..i think its a necessary addition and shudnt b diff to achieve..shud b similar to the web zoom in implementation

Ahaha, I'm one of the "Hell yeah" guys!

Personally while reading a conversation I want to be able to change system volume instead of zooming the written.

But I can understand that others could need larger fonts.
