Best N900 hard case

Anyone have a recommendation on a good hard case for the N900 and a screen protector? I dropped it again today (Still no damage or scratches) but I'm pretty sure my luck is going to run out soon. :D

I bought this and it works as it should. The top part is feeling kinda loose but no real problem. I even got a screen protector with it, kinda strange considering the already low price.

Stay away from the above cases! They break and the only damage my n900 has suffered was because of these. They scratch!

PDair makes a pretty good rubberized hard case. Also, there is a thread on the nureve leather cases, but if you drop it that much you may need something more like the rubberized hard case ;)

These are reviews that I've done for hard leather cases for the nokia n900:
http://www.symbianoasis.com/2010/01/...rotection.html
http://www.symbianoasis.com/2010/01/...rotection.html

both are good, check out the links for pics and more in-depth details.
You could also search this technology news site for some cases, they usually review good one's occasionally..
and if you feel like thanking me, there's a button for that below =)

I've tried this and this. The second one was a failure for two reasons: It came unprotected and was malformed by the postal carrying and it had a bug: the holes at the left side were upside-down, covering the proximity sensor all the time (!).

The first case is the one I'm currently using. While a but bulky, it is beatifull and has succeeded in protecting N900 from a fall, wine, whiskey, water and dust. I really like that case. However, all cases of that kind cover the face of N900 meaning that you cannot see the notofication light without taking the phone out.

I've also tried the ebay's case but I didn't like it. It makes the phone look ugly and big and it makes it hard to press at the top-left corner.

How long did it take you to get the shipment from PDair? Where are you located?

Has anyone tried the PDair aluminum case for the N900? http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product...ducts_id=27477.

I made the order about 30 Dec 2009, and I got a confirmation of shipment at 6 Jan 2010. Having in mind that I ordered 3 cases and that it was Christmas, I guess the ~3 working days to ship are ok. The case came about 1.5-2 weeks latter but that's most probably the shipment delay.

In their mail the said this:

Quote:

Thank you for your order. We are glad to inform you that your shipment has been processed and sent out by air on 06 Jan 2010. Normally the delivery time for air mail via Hong Kong Post Office varies from 7 to 20 working days (not including Sat & Sun).

I bought this from PDair, it took about ten days to get to the UK.

Not a hard case but it has already saved my little friend from a couple of nasty falls onto hard surfaces.

I've been using the case from krusell http://www.krusell.se/product/3875 and it a bit tight but I noticed after a few month of usage the leather softens up.

I'll report back.
The thing that caught my eye with this case is the attachment point for the belt holder that comes with it, I may be able to use this to fix it to a suction car windscreen mount.

There's a youtube video of it too if you're interested. This is the best video I've found, but there are a couple of others as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk28LFQX4NY

It looks pretty nice. I thought to combine a screen protector since the case is open screen. There was a review of a PDair aluminum case for the playstation portable, and the review was excellent, I can't find the link to that review now though. The one for the N900 should be the same quality.

By the way, I'm very interested in this case because, first and foremost, the belt clip looks sturdy and secure. I bought a leather case from T-Mobile that had everything I was looking for (non-magnetic buckles and soft interior for the N900 screen) except the belt clip was designed like the sketch below on the left (no distal hook to catch onto your belt or pants), and it took almost no force at all to make the whole case slip right off your hip. The PDair aluminum case has a belt clip that, from what I can tell, is like the sketch below on the right, and that hook at the end keeps the case from being easily pulled off your hip or belt.

Apart from the keyboard thing, there is a practical issue: How is this case supposed to protect n900 from fluids and drops?

a) Fluids will go all over the case and reach N900.

b) If N900 is dropped while in this case, it will be shocked really hard. Is the case able to absorb force by itself? Will it prevent the screen or any other fragile part from breaking because of the shock?

It won't protect from fluids. Even with leather cases you wouldn't want to be using the N900 near a pool, or putting a big mug of liquid near it.

One might want to combine this with a screen protector.

The PDair aluminum case is lined with neoprene on the inside. The review of the version for the playstation portable was positive. I ordered the N900 version and haven't got it yet. I'll come back and list my impressions after I get it and use it.

My reasons for choosing this case include that the belt clip appears to have a good grip on your belt or pants (see the sketch in my prior post in this thread) and it doesn't use any magnetic latching system. I couldn't find anything else that had a quality belt clip and didn't use magnetic latching. Can't tell if Noreve is a snap-on latch or magnetic, their web site doesn't show enough pictures of the cases, and also Noreve is much more expensive especially if you want the metal belt clip.

Re: Best N900 hard case

I've got a PDair Book Type case http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product...ducts_id=26893.

I'm very happy with it. There are some very minor issues like a tiny clasp that's supposed to keep the device in place slightly protruing from the back and pushing it out, or the magnetic clasp not closing as easily as I'd want, or the keyboard cover increasing my typos rate slightly.

However they're minor enough for me to be happy wih the peace of mind it gives, and the n900 is a slippery little thing. Not to mention that after a month of having it in the case 24/7 I took it out and it looked and felt smaller!

Yes it came a couple of days ago. It is well made, actually it is very well made and the neoprene lining makes for a snug fit and protects the N900 well. However it does make the device a little bulkier, I already use the PDair vertical leather pouch which I like a lot and I think I will continue to use that.

But I have just modded the ally case to use as a car mount I'll give it a go this week. I drive 200 miles round trip daily to and from work and listen to audio books, music and podcasts using the FM transmitter, so I should be able to give my new contraption a decent enough workout LOL.

I will let you know how it goes.

Nice. Very interested in how you made the car mount.

Have you noticed any degradation in reception, be it 2G/3G, wifi, GPS, FM, etc? If not, I may just go for this.

Also, if you happen to have a scale, could you weigh the N900 with the case? While I don't mind the bulk, I run with my N900 so I'm curious how much weight is added.

@ torsen: How long did it take you to receive the case, and where are you located? I ordered mine on Feb 21 and it's still not here. Do you use a screen protector with this case? That IS interesting the contraption you concocted. What is the mount from?

Re: Best N900 hard case

I'm interested in the Aluminium case, but it looks like you have to open the case to use the keyboard. It would be far better for it to just clip onto the screen and slide up with it, wouldn't it? Am I seeing the pics wrong?

I've got a PDAir leather book case at the moment, and it's been a great case for the last 5 months or so, but now the plastic keyboard strip has snapped / torn, so the phone isn't so snug in there any more.

Re: Best N900 hard case

Yeah alu pdair no good, best around ATM IMO is the otterbox commuter series.
Compact/rugged exterior, soft interior to prevent scratching and provide further absorption, all inputs/outputs have plugs to prevent dust/muck build-up (cept stylus and speakers of course), keyb can be easily slid open whilst case is still on etc.

Otterbox without a doubt.

Tried a couple of the silicone covered hard cases, they were okay, but the otterbox is superb.

Yep thats what I've got. Its not stunningly pleasing to the eye, but ultimately it might just prevent serious damage.

Scratches I am not worried about, (dont wanna be too precious about it) and pulling it in and out of a leather pouch isnt a good idea as I would probably drop it in the rush to answer a call!

100miles to/from work every day, holy frack, what do you do?
You must love your job, that'd drive me insane!!! :D
You'd wanna hope whatever major highway/s you ride on don't tend to get massive jams either.
I used to commute about half that in Australia, and it drove me nuts

Yep, I eventually settled on this, as observable from earlier.
Definitely one of the best options around for the N900...

One thing that's a little irritating, is that it can be tricky to remove once it's on.
But no big deal.....

Removing the otterbox - it get's easier each time you do it. I've had to switch out sims when traveling and it does get easier to remove the bottom case to get to the back cover. I've been very pleased with the otterbox for my N900.
