n900 build quality issues! Keyboard wear etc. anyone else?
I've had my n900 a month now (and I love it) but i'm having some concerns..
First... the 3.5mm audio jack is already playing up. It's lose inside the phone and often needs a wiggle to make it work ( which is obviously is going to make things worse to the point of failure) Second... In 4 weeks already the keyboard is starting to wear away! the matt effect ruberish touch surface is coming away on almost the keys now! Third.... The plastic edging round the lower half of the keyboard has cracked? Anyone else having any of these problems? http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/4122/p1020527s.jpg |

No wear whatsoever here (yet)
The QWERTY assy isn't well installed here though, it's raised a bit from the middle and it creaks when pressing the lower row keys Thinking about either refitting it or buying a new one and installing it. |

Its worth noting im a text-o-holic and probably sent about 2000 in 4 weeks plus a fair bit of facebook etc. But still? surely this device has to last my 18months not 18days! Do you think I should contact Nokia for Warrenty issues? Particularly for the Audio jack

I noticed today that the narrow piece of plastic cover between the bottom row of keys and the frame of the device became loose. It's something that you hardly see, but you feel it when you type...
Very disappointed. Shouldn't happen on a €600-device. And it's the kind of defect that is just not big enough that you'd go and fight for repair/replacement. :( |

Wow, if my phone looks like that after 4 weeks I will be very disappointed. I might have to start using the on-screen keyboard a bit more. Although, that will probably just damage the screen quicker :\

Re: n900 build quality issues! Keyboard wear etc. anyone else?
does anyone else find that there is a very slight overhang of the top half of the phone over the bottom layer keyboard. so that when you feel the n900 when its shut there is a slight overhang on the bottom side. i went out the other night and fell over and was wondering whether it was me who did this or whether they are all like this, the one in my local retailer had this overhang also. just wondering if yours are like this?

Re: n900 build quality issues! Keyboard wear etc. anyone else?
Ive had mine since december and its fine. I think all these posts about wear and tear, design flaws etc etc are just folk who have been using the n900 roughly, have maybe dropped it, using greasy fingers and so on!
I take good extra care of all my things, I haven't come accross any of these sort of issues so far. If I am wrong in what I said then please do correct me as all I keep seeing are these posts about folk complaining or reporting of such things. |

Re: n900 build quality issues! Keyboard wear etc. anyone else?
I've the lower right keyboard bezel slightly affected by the sliding screen. They're not scratches, the matt finish just got polished to a glossy finish.
I've also got some keyboard keys that have started to lose finish. I've had these exact same features on my n95, so im pretty sure its due to my individual usage antics. I slide more with my right, and my fingers have nail until th edge - so however i press i have to use my nails. And yes i do cut my nails =) |
