Maemo at MWC
 

Nokia's event page for Mobile World Conference is up. It includes couple of Maemo related items. "Apps for Maemo" is one of the four topics at Nokia's demo area. Nice to see Maemo apps included in a selection that has Nokia's key service projects (Ovi Maps, Nokia Money and CMW).

Ari Jaaksi will also speak about "The new device market place". Looks like Nokia won't offer livestream from the event. EDIT: Actually there will be two livecasts. See post below.

Hi

I will be next week in MWC. I heard some time ago that Nokia was not planning to have a booth. Is it true? Does anybody know if there will be any Maemo presence?

As far as i know only Nokia related in MWC are NSN and Symbian Foundation.
Nokia will have it's event just next to the place where MWC is held in Barcelona 15-16th.

I will be in MWC too and in the exhibitors list doesn't appear anything of Nokia or Maemo.

I am also going to be at MWC. Nokia have their presence at ONCE on Gran Via, 2 minutes walk from Fira where MWC is.

Nokia has updated the event page to show that there will be live broadcast from both Nokia-Intel press conference and Nokia's own main MWC event.

I sure hope they intend to push harder on Comes with Music. Hasn't been exactly a roaring success-- and it could be.

Placing those two events so closely makes me quite excited about what Nokia and Intel have cooked up together. Maybe announcing collaborative chipset first (SoC with Atom,telephony/3G,GPU?), then on Nokia own's event a device that uses that chipset?

just heard that the nokia intel joint press conference will be mostly about software rather than hardware, main rumour is they will be combining elements of maemo and moblin

Yes, Maemo Marketing got one fixed demo spot for apps on Maemo. Jussi Makinen and myself will be showing some apps that will come soon to the Store.

Ari Jaaksi, Janne Heikkinen, and many more folks from Maemo Devices are here too.

I'm excited. Hope OVI store gets fixed up soon in addition to possibly a new firmware update to support the fix.

I really hate this number counting from Nokia. Yes we know there's 200 million Symbian phones and 1.4 million downloads a day from OVI store and so on.

-So far only interesting tidbit: Operators give Nokia a cut from dataplans from consumers that use Nokia Messaging.

-Nokia Money to expand to every major Indina city within next 12 months. Over 200 000 retailers in India.

Talked to Adobe yesterday about Flash 10.1 on N900. They said they have provided the source to Nokia and that Nokia have not informed Adobe of a timeline for release of Flash 10.1 for N900. While for Android it seemed Adobe were more in control of the situation and they said first half this year.

I got Adobe to demo Flash 10.1 running on some H264 demo streams on www.flumotion.com with a Nexus One. Even with all the crappy wifi at MWC, it was very smooth video.

Talked to some Maemo guys today. Hints I got were that after next Maemo/MeeGo device are that there may be Intel cpu based Nokia branded devices.

Also saw an app that will soon go on Ovi Store of a rollercoaster train which you control with the accelerometer on N900.

Also was told next update for N900 (not today's one) will have support for paid apps on Ovi Store.
