Wordpress to start develop Maemo client

Hi,
Wordpress published an interesting post on their website on mobile applications:

http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2010/02...for-wordpress/

Basically they're starting to develop a client for both Maemo and Symbian based on Qt. Maybe this is a good sign of support coming to the platform from big web developers?

Definitely good news.

But how long till we see something usable? I really hope not too long!

I hope it's better than the iPhone app. The Android app is much better functioning, but not better "looking". I'd take the functionality any day.

This is good news.

Why don't use MyStory?
It's quite nice. I don't blog much though. So no such a good experience of that. :(

I like MaStory, and use it pretty much weekly to write my blog, I'm not sure what more I would want from a wordpress client. I guess I'll withhold judgment until I see the 'official' one. Maybe there will be awesomeness I didn't know I needed.

I interpret this as a clue that Qt interchangeable apps between S60 and Maemo will be available soon, probably by the next firmware update for N900.

Also look at the installation hints here: http://dev.nokia.wordpress.org/2010/...ed/#comment-41

Requires the qt4-maemo libs, especially the webkit and svg modules.

Yeah, that was embarassing. Thanks for pointing it out! There are still much work to do in the packaging area. For example, the postrm script is completely missing, and that should be added as soon as possible.

In the coding side, you can see that the code is 95 % common with the Symbian version. The only major differences are that Maemo does not have softkeys, so we have to draw buttons on the bottom of the screen and that Maemo back button causes some differences in the widget parenthood.

I'll be monitoring this thread, so if you have any feedback or comments, they will be heard.

At some point in near future, I'm hoping to create a project for this in the Maemo Garage. If anybody is willing to help or join development, please contact me!

Now the WordPress application is finally in extras-devel repository. There are still some issues, like the application icon does not work, but those should be fixed shortly.

Re: Wordpress to start develop Maemo client

I just tried out the Wordpress app and like it quite a bit -- the interface is nice and finger-friendly, and it lets me get to the basics quite easily..

BUT

I'm not able to get it to accept my API key for stats. I am an admin of my blog, but it's self-hosted, so I'm wondering if that's the problem?

Anyone have any suggestions?

If not, can anyone tell me where on the N900 it stores its data? I'd like to remove my blog from its list and start fresh but it won't let me do that either..

Otherwise, this is very promising :)
