Well, last time i checked, they were in stock at Nokias european web shop. Where you live, and where you can get them from, i don't know. :)

I also lost one, so I contacted Nokia USA, and here is their response (date April 2, 2007):

"We acknowledge your request to obtain an extra stylus for your Nokia N800 Internet Tablet. We thank you for choosing Nokia products and can provide the following information.

Howard, please check your Nokia N800 Internet Tablet sales package. There should be an extra stylus in there. The device comes with an extra.

At this time, the stylus for the Nokia N800 Internet Device is not available as an enhancement. Should it be made available, it will be on the web site at www.nokiausa.com."

I find it interesting that Nokia considers the stylus an "enhancement", but we can save that for another thread.

Re: N800 Stylus replacement

Because I've lost more than a few stylii in the past for my Zaurus, I now never use the included ones. I leave them inserted and have purchased this - http://www.styluscentral.com/fisbulspacpe.html
It's expensive, but there are cheaper alternatives. And it includes a ballpoint pen on the other end too.

I just keep it in the stylus holder of the case I have, and since it's much heavier than the Nokia-included stylus, should I drop it, it's much easier to find/pick up.

You have to consider the context. Enhancement as in additional stylii beyond what's normally included in the sales pack. Another descriptor could have been used, but this is typical Finnglish, and should be fairly obvious as to intent.

Re: N800 Stylus replacement

I had to come up with a replacement stylus so decided to make one using my woodworking hobby. The result is a stylus made of oak which fits the n800 stylus slot perfectly. It turned out beautiful and feels nice in the hand. I even put a glow in the dark paint on the very tip. Being hardwood it should last a long time.

My question to you all is would anybody else be interested in having wood stylii made? What would you be willing to pay?

Now if only I dared to attempt a wood faceplate....

Re: N800 Stylus replacement

I had a scare yesterday, when I woke up and my stylus was gone! I soon found it, but I never found my spare stylus when I first received my N800 box, so this is the only one I have. I would pay around $5 for a replacement.

Re: N800 Stylus replacement

btw, it's just "styluses". You can't mix Greek and Latin suffixes. Same way with Octopuses (or octopodes), not "octopii".

sorry, I know.... I know....

Re: N800 Stylus replacement

In case it helps, Nokia Ireland sells a pack of 3 for €12.09 incl delivery. On eBay the price is £15 each!

The snag is that both the delivery and card billing addresses have to be in Ireland despite the fact that the items are shipped from Belgium. Like so many things nokia it makes no sense.

Quite why Nokia's procedures have to be so convoluted is anyone's guess but the direct link is
http://direct.nokia.com/Product.aspx?model=StylusN800
Trying to find this page by any other route is very difficult.

That seems to be a fairly large distinction. Communications with customers in each region should go through someone who knows the difference between 'enhancement' and 'replacement'. I expect Nokia to communicate like an important company with worldwide reach, not like a a small company with a thanklessly small budget and a handful of employees who only know a few languages among them. There are legal implications to getting your language right in many cases as well--particularly if something lands you in court of failure to provide customers with satisfaction. As The King and I put it so well, "Mean what you say, say what you mean." Language is important--especially if you intend to have offices and do business in several countries.

I'm just stressing why the 'typical Finnish translation' faux paux excuse isn't very convincing. :P

No luck here. I'm looking for styluses and having no luck.

Re: N800 Stylus replacement

Oddly, I think Nokia is unique in its cluelessness with regard to styluses. For example, I have a Centro from Sprint. The site has a pack with three styluses available on its site.

This is really a pretty extraordinary lapse on Nokia's part. I haven't yet seen a reasonable explanation for its behavior, or non-behavior.

I guess Nokia is lucky I'm not an employee of theirs, since I would make this a constant question whenever I spoke to anyone in management.

Maybe, in all the commentary, I've missed a good explanation somewhere. If there is one, it should be added to the Wiki.

A guy on craigslist gave me one. Just sent it to me for free. That was very cool.

Oak replacement styluses for the tablets would be very cool! How much would (ahem, wood) I have to pay for one?

Wow.. that was actually VERY awesome of him!

As for replacement--I'd like to know how much I have to pay for ANY replacement, for crying out loud. HELLO! Even my friends want to know and keep asking me, as their source for the tablet knowledge in this group.

I'll make up a quote on wood stylus for you guys, and some pics - but it will be next week.

In the meantime - a quick 'emergency' stylus is a plastic coffee stirrer with a toothpick in it - bend the end in half and it actually fits the slot quite nicely!

Slick, high tech device and we have to resort to this!!

Re: N800 Stylus replacement

@#&*ing Nokia. :( Sadly, I LOVE the unique triangular shape because it doesn't roll away.. but it tasks us with finding a proper replacement.

Thanks, btw, on that project to make a wood Stylus. You should totally start selling them as a third party generic wooden stylus. :) I'm pretty sure it'd make moola.. and nobody else seems to be doing it or maybe thought of doing such a niche stylus replacement.

I'll buy one one (or two) of yer woodin styluses......as long as they fit and it's better than a toothpick in a coffee stirrer.

Re: N800 Stylus replacement

Just FYI I lost one stylus the other day so I set out in search of a suitable (usable) substitute. I visited an arts and crafts store. I found they had some cheap wooden rods that should be workable into something. The size that fit the hole is a 3/8" round rod. But that wasn't the most elegant solution I came up with. It was (drumroll please)...........

knitting needles.

Yes I know. Who woulda thunk it. But a #8 knitting needle (which may be available in metal, wood, or even really cool looking transparent plastic) is the right diameter. They should be easy to cut to the right length, and something affixed to the end to make it like the original. And they're also quite cheap.

Um, are you talking about an N800 stylus here? Because, they're, you know, triangular, not round.

Have you received them, or did you just order them?

Re: N800 Stylus replacement

Well, I just ordered a half-dozen from here; I'm not sure it's even the stylus (stylus assembly? Maybe something silo-related?), and they're 2.3 of 5 stars in Google shopping, but it's 20 bucks including shipping, so if I lose it, it's manageable.

I'll post about them if/when they arrive...

Re: N800 Stylus replacement

I'm very curious to see what you get when you order a half dozen "stylus assemblies"...

Benson 2008-10-01 16:44

Re: N800 Stylus replacement

(OT, but not worth starting a new thread for: ) I also ordered (elsewhere) a Mugen 3.6Ah battery for the N800. Actually, it's for the N61, which takes the same battery. It comes with the back door for the N61, which is not so hot, but I'm hoping it'll work. If the battery works with the N800, then it's just a matter of whipping up a customized back door for battery and ExpressCard support. Since it takes extra work, I don't know how many people will like this, but it's also coming from Asia, so I'll likely post around the same time if the battery works out.

I have never once lost my stylus. You know why? It's cause I always place it in its hole after use. You people who lose your styluses are so irresponsible.

Re: N800 Stylus replacement

Klutzy is more like it. My N800 fell out of my pocket when I bent over in a dark parking lot, and the stylus must have popped out at that point. I didn't realize it until I got home. It was at that point that I realized I couldn't find my spare one, either.

If you do a Google search for "Nokia 0269433" it does appear that everyone seems to think it's a stylus for a Nokia N800.

What's really interesting is that most if not all of the site's offering to sell you one are cellular phone repair sites.

heelio 2008-10-01 17:44

Re: N800 Stylus replacement

I rather think $14 each plus shipping or even 20 for 3 shipped (better, but still high for what is basisically a Stick) when I tend to lose small things and these replacements are cheap and available locally. 3/8 is the diameter of a round replacement. I know the original is triangular - lotsa luck trying to find that....
