N900 Accelerometer sensor is not working
 

Hi there,
I bought last week a new Nokia N900 but unfortunatly noticed lately that the rotating sensor called accelerometer sensor is not working. Can you guys help and guide me where to fix that up. Is my device faulty? or it's about software stuff. Knowing that the sensors are built in specifications, should I return it back to the local dealer and get new one because of the manufaturing defects? I've got 18 months warranty for the hardware. i had this problem once too, however you should be able to fix it by turning the device off and back on. if that doesn't work then disconnect the battery since the device will still use some kind of memory to remember what the accelorometer was doing last. that worked for me and i haven't had a problem since ;)

WHERE its not working?
N900 is almoust 100% landscape device.
For phone you must enable auto rotating feature.
Or its really not working at all..like @game called bounce evolution?

mine stop working here and there. turn it off and on first. if that doesnt fix it take it back

Still the same ... note that all app in this regard .. eyes and shaketcontrol ..ect + when watching pic's .. there are no rotation.

I have seen this problem three times now.
First one was resolved by a gentle rap to the case.
The second one resolved by power off.
Third by removing the battery.
Is it possible one of the apps is causing the problem ?
Could it be a OS issue? Hardware issue?
I've installed labyrinth lite, Anglemeter, seismometer and pedometer widget.

vhb_q8, did you begin having problems after installing one of these?

same problem here too. power off - no solution.

i did a power off trick now and works... so far!

crazy again. the worst part is that now it´s unlocking the screen automaticaly, making it not usable at all!

hy guys,

i´ve found here in brazil this company that sells the accelerometer part. do you guys think that if i swap the accelerometer (soldering a new one) could fix it?

that depends on how much you know about electronics and soldering.. if you feel confident and you have tryied EVERYTHING, besides of taking it to nokia for them to test...
i mean, you NEED to be 100% sure it is a hardware issue..
and if you are out of guaranty or you dont care to loose it..

i guess you could give it a try.. after all... n900 IS a hacker's phone right ?

good luck with that, let us know how it goes. If you do change the accelerometer, it would be awesome if you could take some pictures and a walkthrough of the whole process..

Did you tried to remove battery for 2 minutes ? Maybe is bugged , also you could run the healthcheck application and if none of these 2 methods works , reflash . :)

dragoss91, will do a healthcheck right now (didnt know this app, thanks for that) and will post my results.

Are you positive that reflashing is the only solution (im trying not to get there.. hehe).

If reflashing is the last solution , you should do it , of course if you care about accelerometer . :)

I am also experiencing the same problem of the accelerometer as when I try to view images by rotating it does not work and also the browser too plz help me it happened form 2 days before I tried rebooting and also removed the battery still not working. I installed the wireshark application and after that this problem started but now I removed it but still the problem persists plz some one help me!!

And I also used healthcheck application it shows no result I mean no x-value and no y-value

plz help

so should I reinstall the firmware!!

ok, Dragoss91, i have done everything i could.. and yes, i will have to reflash..

I also didnt have any response from the device on healthcheck.. not after installing, after rebooting or after removing battery for a few minutes..

Im following a tutorial.. i dont have the link right now, but just in case, do you know, have, etc a good followup guide on flashing n900? A proven one if you will..

i just flashed the whole thing, device + eMMC... a complete flash.

But it seems not to be working.. i dont know what else to do right now...
is it posible to be a hardware failure ? how can i test that ?


please remember i have files missing:
/sys/class/i2c-adapter/i2c-3/3-001d/$ls
bus, modalias, name, power, subsystem, uevent

comparing to another n900.. there should be a bunch more files.. including "coord".. :mad:

if you need any more info.. please just ask

Those files are for accelerometer , I have no idea why they are missing after you reflashed it . Wait for answers of people with more knowledge than me , I am pretty noob . :)

yes, i know but i think this files are related on the loading of the accelerometer.... its like its not loading at all.
the missing files i think are not configuration files, but display files for accelerometer data... like the "coord" file..

Which Healthcheck are you using, devel or extras? as they both read them slightly differently. (Albeit, maybe eventually using the same coord files, depending on how qt works.)

I am using eyes widgets and its always looking left I hav never dropped my N900 so there wont be any hardware damage I hav not yet flashed it and I used Healthcheck application and it does not show any thing in the values section, I mean no x ,y or z values !!

I used the devel health checker (432 kb)
that was showing nothing as per my earlier comment

later I installed the extras health checker(4.2mb) but its not loading and closes automatically

My firmware version is 20.2010.36-2.204.1
The kernel version is 2.6.28-omap1
and I recently installed an application AccDisplay and it shows
x=0.01
y=0.01
z=0.01
