Anyone willing/able to create a new Maemo site?
Any other legacy device user out there that either already have a site up and running (and could add a vBulletin to it for instance) - or have the time and know-how to set up a new site for N770/N800/N810 users where we could discuss those devices?
Personally I don't have the skills to set something up but I'd be willing to contribute in ways like helping out with hosting fees, etc. Anyone interested in (or have already thought about) such an undertaking? I doubt that this would 'rob' the tmo of any users as many are probably also N900 owners and/or would keep going here for other reasons - but I would personally love to have a new home. Or maybe in light of today's MeeGo announcement it should be a 'Maemo Legacy OS'-site :) |

Why create a new site; several Maemo sites sprang up when the N900 was released, why not take some of that energy there and bolster what you perceive that is missing here with filling it in on those sites?

Do you mean I should go to N900 fan-sites and promote the N770/N800/N810 devices and 'turn them into' legacy device fan-sites? I would think those sites were created more for the N900 than anything else :) All I'm really "looking for" is a separate site where legacy-device users can discuss their devices without drowning in N900-N950-MeeGo-Etc chatter. |

b) Could a forum be structured in such a way that N770, N800, N810 AND N900 users could co-exist and threads/sub-forums managed better than at tmo? |

I think that a site focusing on internet tablets regardless of what company makes them is what should be formed. Legacy Nokia tablets would of course have a key role, but so would the Q7/Q5s, etc. There are products that haven't even been released yet that might be of interest.

Maybe START with something like that but construct it in such a way that it could expand? |

I may be the only one here that likes the fact that I can monitor and keep up with all that is happening in the world of maemo. To me it's like being at a Super Walmart.

depending on number of users, and number of users at one time anywhere between $25 and $250 a month. I know its a wide amount but if we are averaging a few dozen less then 100 users at a time I could get away with some good shared hosting plans from certain providers. If get to the point that their are hundreds of users at a time then it would require a dedicated server and then price would go into hundreds of dollars. Forgot to throw in things like vbulletin cost I think its either $195 or $285 depending on which version you got.

Re: Anyone willing/able to create a new 770/N800/N810 site?
Voice of reason here for once, but first - It's our site. we were here first.
We don't need a seperate site, N8x0 and 770s are Maemo devices and the forums etc belong here at talk.maemo.org. What we need is better organisation and seperation of the current forums. The forums under the software section should be split and placed under the relevant OS/Platform section along with the hardware and other relevant forums. and the Active topics should be configurable so that relevant sections can be selected for monitoring. comments? |

It was overdue when it was asked for and now it has just continued to drag for so long that it's ridiculous. If there ever was a 'council' I have personally no idea what they were doing - making the forum a place for ALL device users was certainly not on top of their list. The whole single-system sign-on debacle is another example of how this forum/site fails at doing anything in a timely (SSO..2 years now? 3?) manner - and when asked the reply is 'it's in the works'. |
Re: Anyone willing/able to create a new 770/N800/N810 site?
a linux tablet site would be great, and is going to happen, but for us nokia tablet users the itt archives here are indispensable, and therefore no one would need to worry about us ever completely abandoning maemo.org as long as they're here.

Also, persuade AndrewfBlack and/or other people of like mind to run for council on such a platform. |

I think that the real problem is the recent flood of new idiots here that try to drag you down to their level and then beat you up with their experience. *lol*
