HELP!!!! How do I UPGRADE?????
 

OK . . . I am excited about the newest firmware update Maemo 5 3.2 . . . . I click upgrade and continue and it tell me to back up my contacts . . . SO I DID THAT???


NOW WHAT????

I return and it tell me the same thing???

No other option than to backup???


I know this is probable something easy but I appropriate your help:)

Have you tried not to do the backup? It should continue with the update.

That is my point their is no other option???

I just got the phone last week I could really care less about the backup - I just want the update???

I am going to say something no linux guy would ever say.
Try to reboot and then connect to the internet.
The system checks for updates automatically. And you'll see a small flashing yellow icon on top.
Click on it and the update manager would show the updates. Just say update all. And let's hope the update button comes up this time.

I hope it works. Else, it's keep you busy for a few minutes :-D

have you installed something from extras-testing or -devel? It seems that you have.

WOW . . . OK . . . rebooted ..... update all . . . and after I sat here praying that it would update the firmware . . . .watching it update everything else . . . it didn't:(

So you yell for unstable apps and installed them, and now you complain that your device is unstable.

Hmm.

Did you think about your actions before blaming Nokia for something that you did yourself?

(Plus your exclamation mark and question mark keys seem to be broken as they are printed four resp. five times in the subject line though you probably just pressed them once...)

The device isn't "UNSTABLE" ??? . . . . It was PERFECTLY stable BEFORE I reflashed the new update and it is PERFECTLY STABLE NOW!!!!


Nokia did this on purpose . . . . Now way adding additional sources to your app list MAGICALLY makes an update button disappear.


Come on . . . . they track your device if you install "ALTERNATIVE" apps so they can void your warranty!

@mrebanza: Hmm you need to read up more about what you install. The confirmation message pop ups and 3rd party install confirmations are there for a reason.

yes, your device might have been stable. but the software you installed came with a warning that it could make your device unstable or cause problems later.

Yes, I know that the 3rd party Application Warranty Voiding confirmation messages are their and most likely their for a reason . . . but that does not mean that its a "BUG" or a "GLITCH" from a 3rd party App that caused the firmware update button to disappear?

Nonetheless, it is true that (a) if any users were to restrict themselves to never using programs out of those repositories, they would have tablets with unacceptable limitations for many users, (b) it is known that many of the programs in those repositories are perfectly safe, and (c) it is known that many Nokia-approved programs are not particularly safe.

So I happily ignore the Nokia restrictions, but I also happily reflash when necessary :)

actually it does. 3rd party app can break depencencies and that causes the disappearance of the button.

Pleae provide the ethereal dump that shows your MAC ID being send to Nokia everytime you install some 3rd party stuff.
Oh wait, those evil-doers probably even encrypted it, darn!!!!

I for one really am not a fan of excessive use of CAPS LOCKS..... PEOPLE WHO DO NOT USE THE SEARCH FuNcTiOnAlItY.... Random Blaming of nokia for "User errors", and general ignorance...

Good to see some nice clever people on this thread have been able to ignore that and help out and the problem is fixed :D

Ahhhhhh. but after testing they will make it into the safe repositories.... so it's a lack of patience, or buying the wrong device at the wrong time for some :)

People want things now now now (Or yesterday!) - nothing wrong with it tbh, other then the odd winge :D
