Can New N900 firmware 3.2010.02-8 be reverted??
 

Can today's firmware be reverted? PR 1.1 could not, but can this one?

*Incase* Nokia has introduced new bugs such as battery drain, rebooting, can it be reverted? This is the primary phone for many folks, so it would be a big deal...

If not, should everyone just wait a week for the real-world feedback?

You can do the process at http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware the downgrade the firmware, i.e. using a computer and USB lead etc.

It should be revertable - the only firmware file being updated isn't a version change (it's just to correct a bug where either the debug firmware was installed, or the proper firmware was being installed but had the description for the debug firmware), so it shouldn't prevent rolling back.

Careful, it looks like they updated the same cell radio blob that they said could cause problems if you go backwards.

Yes, see https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7757 for why. The version number has gone from 8.2.2009.47-1.5+0m5 to 8.2.2009.47-1.97+0m5 (apparently - I don't have the new firmware yet so can't confirm the version), so I doubt that incorporates any non-backwardly compatible changes.

sorry if question sounds stupid....

Can i not ALWAYS reflash my device with any image i want? downside being i loose my changes. eg. i would need to do a back up first

You can, yes, but things may not work afterwards. The PR1.1 update included a new version of the firmware for the GSM chipset. This isn't compatible with the previous firmware releases, so the GSM chipset will be disabled if you flash with those (the SIM card isn't recognised and no phone functions work).

Would you need to re-flash the N900 if you miss this update before PR1.2 (as in some cases when people missed PR1.0.1?)

what do you mean 'miss' the PR 1.0.1?
i bought my phone before it was released (1.0.1) but the shipping took long and i got it (the n900) only after PR 1.1 was released.
when i turned it on, both updates where installed one after the other (over the air) with no problems.
