2 questions: Foreca vs OMWeather and desktops...

1. What do you use, and what do you like better, and why?
Foreca ? or OMWeather ??

I like foreca because it's smaller, and the name. Forka. haha.

2. how do you organize your desktops??? I have all web shortcuts on one desktop, widgets on another, phone icons on another (messaging, phone, contacts, fmms) and games on another. I only have about 4 things on each desktop though. it's not full.

what about you guys?

Re: 2 questions: Foreca vs OMWeather and desktops...

1. I think OMweather has better functions, but Foreca works better in Finland and forecasts are more accurate. OMWeather uses forecasts from US? and Forecas forecast comes from Finland

2. I have 4 desktops. one for contacts, sms, quick links for most used contacts, mail and frals mms. Second is for widgets, like nameday, foreca, calendar widget and battery widget, At third i have bookmarks for microb and fourth i have shortcuts for applications

Foreca, OMweather is too big, dunno about forecasts, they seems to be different in every service .....

OMWeather.

I love the interface and the ability to get weather for my current position (via GPS). Not sure if Foreca has that feature.

Re: 2 questions: Foreca vs OMWeather and desktops...

I use Foreca becasue:
-The Foreca widget leave room for other things on that desktop panel
-Foreca more accurate in my area

Re: 2 questions: Foreca vs OMWeather and desktops...

I use OMWeather, don't remember how Foreca looks, I tried both when I first got N900 and decided to use OMWeather.

I think OMWeather has more functions, can choose different widget looks and also allow installing different icon sets which I really like.

Re: 2 questions: Foreca vs OMWeather and desktops...

both weather apps have their pros and cons.
but i like the look of foreca more because it's black-grey and not white like omweather.
(why is omweather white?! all the other widgets are kept in black-grey ://)

as long as omweather has no option for making it darker for suiting most of the themes i will stick to foreca (:

Re: 2 questions: Foreca vs OMWeather and desktops...

Foreca also has those lovely hourly reports for temperature and rain; they are quite accurate.

Re: 2 questions: Foreca vs OMWeather and desktops...

I use OMweather for the simple reason that when I use my favorite theme, BLK&WHT, I can't see the Foreca information.

Re: 2 questions: Foreca vs OMWeather and desktops...

I use foreca, because it's smaller. But forecasts for my area are not as accurate as at local services. I'll switch to OMweather if it will get data from them.

I have one desktop for web shortcuts, one for shortcuts and widgets I use often (it's full already) and one for things I use rarely. And I still have one clear desktop "for future".

I guess that's a great feature. But if you're already there do you really need GPS to know the weather? :D
Like others, Foreca delivers what I need and I like the small footprint on the desktop.

Yes, I have two city programmed (one where I live and one where I work) and third one is set on GPS so if I'm anywhere else (other than the two cities) I can see the current temp and forecast without specifically selecting a city. This is a great feature for anyone who travels.

OMWeather is huge and white cause it was sabotaged by some nokia designer as I was told.

Re: 2 questions: Foreca vs OMWeather and desktops...

I use Foreca because of the smaller size as well. It's on my 'main' desktop where space is at a premium.

I was wondering the other day which widget consumes fewer resources when running, but never got around to testing... anyone know off hand?

Foreca. It is smaller. And OMWeather doesn't contain the town where I live in.

I have a "main" with media player and foreca widget, a "contacts" with my favourite friends, family & gf (and shortcuts to contacts app and conversations), and a "web" which has bookmarks and some misc stuff. On the fourth, I had the Calendar and a conversations inbox, but it wasn' of much use, so I disabled the fourth desktop alltogether.

Re: 2 questions: Foreca vs OMWeather and desktops...

I currently use Foreca, but I'm not happy with either.

What I want is a widget that will display both current conditions and the forecast for the current day. Neither of these widgets seem to do this: if it's Friday morning, Foreca forecasts begin with Saturday. OMWeather is harder to understand; I think it sometimes shows current conditions and sometimes today's forecast, but never both.

I'd be very happy to find out I'm wrong about this, so if anyone can provide directions to make either of these widgets do what I want, I'll be very grateful.

I use Foreca's widget but as an app I use Qt Weather :)

IMO its the best looking app for weather and it reminds me how awesome N900 can be with proper software :D

Take a look

I use the Foreca widget and it seems to be working the way you want for me. I am unable to configure it in such a way that reproduces the behavior you describe though.

Mine shows the current conditions on top and then 4 days forecasts underneath this. The first of those days being the prediction for today. what do you see?

I just tried switching back to daily overview forecasts, and I am now seeing the same thing you describe. It's Monday morning, and the Monday forecast is displayed.

Maybe the behavior I described was a bug that was fixed in a update? Whatever the explanation, thanks!

Ah so it really is there to download. Is it in extra-dev or where?

Or maybe I wasn't remembering the problem correctly! Some time this afternoon, the Monday forecast disappeared. By that time, the high temperature for the afternoon might have already occurred, but the low temperature for the following night certainly hadn't!

On the N810, OMWeather shows "N/A" in place of the predicted high during the evening hours, and continues to show the predicted overnight low. That's what I'd like to have on the N900, but neither of the weather widgets seems to capable of doing this.

I see what you are saying. Its 11.20 pm on Tuesday for me right now but Foreca has replaced todays forecast with Wednesdays.

I never noticed that before and could have sworn it was still showing Tuesdays forecast as recently as a few minutes ago. As there were thunder storms this evening I made a point to check it late in the afternoon and it was certainly as I expected then.

Ill pay closer attention tomorrow. I wonder if the current forecast disappears once it transitions into night, ie the moon icon. That would make sense I guess.

Re: 2 questions: Foreca vs OMWeather and desktops...

This study requires more discipline than I imagined. The latest I have been able to check is 10:45 pm. At this time the earliest prediction shown was the current day.

I am tempted therefore to assume that the Foreca widgets 4 day prediction moves to the next day an hour early.

I would be curious if RobbHs widget changes day earlier than this. I have tried playing with the settings such as the update interval but the earliest day has never changed before 11.

Re: 2 questions: Foreca vs OMWeather and desktops...

i like the OMW better and i organize my desktops in a way where one is dedicated to contacting people in various ways (convo widget + shortcuts to mms email and so on..) another one is media (all media related) another one is weather + couple links and last one is app related + custom stuff.

I use Omweather as foreca doesn't have my location

I've used Foreca since day 1. Never used OMWeather. From reading this thread, I guess I won't be trying OMWeather.

Re: 2 questions: Foreca vs OMWeather and desktops...

I use Foreca cause it's smaller and accurate forecasts in Finland.

I only have 3 active desktops because I use my own widget: Shortcut Stash for launching apps, web bookmarks and folders. Check out the widget from my signature.

using OMWeather because i like the desktopwidget much better.

destination- and forecasting-wise i didnt see any difference between both apps.

I use both. It seems like one of them is dodgy half the time. They take turns.
