Thanks Qgil!

Q,

Just wanted to reach out and thank you for chiming in on T.M.O. the last 24 hours.

There's clearly more than enough FUD to go around ('fear, uncertainty, & doubt'), and your steady, professional voice and transparency has helped neutralize a lot of it (it seems). Thanks for modelling the kind of leadership the forum needs right now. I know I sure find it tough to resist feeding the trolls sometimes.

All the best, and keep it up,

digittante

Thanks Qgil for taking an IRC chat from your sauna last night, thereby giving me a mental image to spoil my entire evening...

Seriously, thanks for being there and for all you're doing.

Yep... Thanks QGil...
And by the by... if you are willing to find a community member to test the new MeeGo devices here I am.

(I will do it for free and during weekends too :P)

I really need to get a better grip on my imagination if he's going to make a habit of it. :p

/agree with above posters :)

Awesome work to sort things out!
So much what if's and speculations without facs and guesswork
doesn't exactly calm the nervous one's down.

So big thanks for the effort to clear things out since it's a pretty huge thing with the new direction things taken the last few days.

You've heard that electronic devices are tested in a fog chamber, right? Sauna simply is the finnish version of it ;)

Is there a thread full of summaries of the answers from the IRC chat from last night? I've tried searching, but getting hit with timeouts.

hi together i would like to see a summary about this irc chat too. i just want to take a look at the moblin 2.1 livecd to get a feeling for it.

If there are users needed to test a new device dont forget me i love to test and find bugs .. maybe this is from my old job as support engineer:D

best regards Crown77

Re: Thanks Qgil!

thanks

fyi IRC in the evenings is done at the kitchen: good wlan connection and big Andalousian table (the Andalousian detail is added to spice up your imagination). Evening calls are made from the sauna (engine turned off) not to awake children.

In Finland I've discovered how good saunas with wooden walls and ceiling are to handle sound. I wouldn't be surprised if someone has used a sauna to record music (specially soloists, since saunas tend to be rather small).

Am I missing something or is pretty much nothing answered about Meego in those logs? Was everything discussed in #meego and not #maemo?

benny1967 2010-02-17 10:04

Re: Thanks Qgil!

these are the logs of #maemo.

when quim entered the chat on tuesday and invited people to ask questions about meego, he was asked to switch over to #meego (because the people "who matter" were there).

i guess he did, because i didn't find anything meego-related in the log afterwards. so the question is if there's a log for #meego.

So, for the people who don't matter? ;)
(BTW why someone matters and someone don't? I feel offended) (/me has an ego too)

I'd like to know something more from Quim!

I'm guessing the question of "Will MeeGo officially run on N900?" was once again tactfully avoided by the Nokia people ?

Nope. The concept "Kitchen Table" has nothing like the same effect on my imagination as "Sauna". Probably just as well.

Thanks for the IRC chat - I found it via twitter. Thanks too for the reassurance all round. I think people are getting over the shock now.

Re: Thanks Qgil!

Ok, allow me to ask this.

If you have a product that's out now, there's a questionable upgrade path, a recent announcement makes that upgrade path already more questionable... why not answer the simple question of "Should I buy now, or should I buy later?" in clear, simple terms?

Either answer now, deal with a little bit of wrath - but sell a lot less units - or deal with it later... and deal with the wrath of a lot more people. The people that don't know about Maemo 6, MeeGo, Harmattan... hell, how to even get to the terminal and install via dpkg.

I just don't get what's the problem with answering that one question? Will it be upgraded or not? Coyly walking around that question just creates more doubt about the current product and future product.

I just don't get it. And no... I don't want to hear "we're working on the details..." or "you'll have to be patient..." or even "we can't say right now..." because all of those to a consumer ear means "Nope. If you've bought it, you're screwed. If you buy it, you're screwed. And if you're waiting for information... you're screwed."

Maybe I could draw you a fast mockup. What kind of body would you like? George Clooney or the young Arnold Schwarzenegger? :D

If you can find a nude picture of Einstein I could prepare it with quim's head. (just and only for your imagination) :D

Has anybody a nice picture of a finish sauna?

Now I'm sat here wondering whether that's better or worse than the sauna image I already have... Einstein has the disadvantage of having been dead for a while.

So Quil's head on a decayed, decrepid, fragile body in a sauna.

Win thread is Win :).

Sorry. So long as Quim doesn't invite you to spend time in his sauna with him every image is a rotten compromise. :)

C'mon, Einstein wasn't always old. He must have once been young and virile.

And..that really doesn't help the mental images, does it?

*shudder*

this is really off topic, fpp. don't you remember? it's about einstein's body with quim's head. your tongue doesn't fit in here.

Poor Qgil! This lovely thread thanking him has devolved into a very.. err... 'odd' discussion about Einstein's tongue.

Let's just reassure ourselves that Quim is far, far too sensible to ever invite me to his sauna, (and besides, bears don't like that much heat!) and get the thread back on topic. Which unless I was mistaken was about offending non-IRC users, wasn't it?
