Collecting MeeGo bits and pieces from irc
Hi, if anyone interested, I've created a wiki page over at MeeGo.com to start to pick some interesting opinions from the IRC chat.
If you are participating in the #meego discussions, please help us out, by dropping the things in the wiki as you hear them from meego. if you are reading this in the next few minutes: there is nothing on the page yet, I have my irc log at home and cannot process yesterday yet. http://wiki.meego.com/Meego_irc |
Re: Collecting MeeGo bits and pieces from irc
I've added a link to the full #meego irc logs on the wiki page.

Re: Collecting MeeGo bits and pieces from irc
Unfortunately the log only starts from this afternoon, so nothing from the "people that count" chat of yesterday... :-)

Re: Collecting MeeGo bits and pieces from irc
So... where we are is exactly the same spot we were at just prior to maemo.org's acquisition of Internet Tablet Talk.
Discussions not as easily accessed over IRC, that will eventually determine the path this community will take, are now taking place. The people that "matter" are the ones who will eventually use the dang thing. What "counts" are the number of units that are eventually sold. What I wonder is: Will Nokia continue to use user groups like ours as cheap customer support or will customer support and product usability professionals be involved in this project from the start? :) BTW RF, thanks for the effort to bring us up to speed. |
Re: Collecting MeeGo bits and pieces from irc
Where did this thing about "the people that matter" come from? Sure, there was a chat on IRC last night, in an open channel. I was there (and I certainly don't matter!) It was being discussed fairly freely on twitter, so it wasn't secret or hidden. There's always been an IRC channel associated with this place - it's a good spot to hang out, and by no means secret!
I'm not sure who is worried they were left out of what. |

Logs are here - with thanks to Helmuth in this thread. :)

Re: Collecting MeeGo bits and pieces from irc
So we discussed casually MeeGo related topics in the #meego IRC channel. If someone finds something wrong in this, then perhaps s/he will find many other things wrong in general. ;)
I've jumped there a couple of times just because I can't really follow all the threads here and there. If it's something really burning you log in IRC and you get to know pretty quick. Praktisch! I landed first in #maemo because these were the people I wanted to address first. Then the obvious thought came to mind that in #meego there would be many other people just as thirsty of clarification. Anybody following #maemo at that time could just jump to #meego. |

anyway, my bear friend from beloved cornwall, it's nothing but a funny anecdote... i don't believe anyone here reads something into it. it's just one of those phrases that may float around for a while ;) |

The main thing keeping me here more than IRC is work. Easy to dash off comments here even while I'm doing coding or whatever... not so much IRC streams. This is why I need a job with |

You and me both, Texrat. I'm finding it interesting to try keep up the past few days. :)

http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...highlight=qgil ...where everyone (including you and your sauna fetish :-) sounds ecstatic about yesterday's IRC chat about MeeGo. I personally never use IRC, so in such cases I usually just take a peek at the logs to see what the fuss is about. Only this time there were just a few lines about qgil signing in and then everyone leaving off to the #meego channel, for which there is no log of that session. So it's a mix of actual frustration at feeling taunted (very unintentionally, of course) and joking reference at johnx's "parting words", as Benny explained. For those who read SF, this must be how the last humans on Earth will feel when all the rest have upgraded to posthuman status after the Discontinuity :-) |

BTW, this forum is the place I thought of as the face or "front door" to maemo.org... at least that's what I understood the purpose of its acquisition to have been. But then again, I was never a part of the conversations that took place then either. :) My concerns then are the same as they as they are now. Why is it so hard to find archives posted on this forum of these conversations for those whose schedules do not permit participation or for others who chose to "hang out" here instead. I realize that there is spontaneity involved and for all I know you all could be naked, sauna participants. It doesn't hurt my feelings any. Forum posts are spontaneous too, but anyone can log on even months later to read what was posted to get a better understanding of the points that may have been made. (heavy sigh) ...and just like back then we will pro'ly spin our wheels arguing about the above and miss the whole point entirely... openness or, miss direct questions by some who could not attend like: Will Nokia continue to use user groups like ours as cheap customer support or will customer support and product usability professionals be involved in this project from the start? |

But I didn't see qgil's name anywhere in those logs that start on Wednesday and still have no idea why Tuesday's Meego IRC was referred to in this thread >> http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...highlight=quim ...started BTW in order to thank Quim for clearing up fear, uncertainty and doubt. Ironical, ain't it. :D BTW, I do thank Quim for his presence here and realize very well the thin line he must walk sometimes. Being contrary to that wasn't the point of my post. |
