Ohh my, you are going to have to give me some time to digest your question. I am not technical. Let me run through the whole thing again, step by step.

Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware
I executed the sudo gainroot and then the cat/dev/null>/var/log/syslog but I got the reply: cannot create, permission denied.

Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware
Did the prompt change after you ran "sudo gainroot" (do you have the rootsh package installed)?
|
Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware
it just showed the prompt again. As for the rootsh package, I do not know.

Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware
run terminal, type "root" then type "whoami"
if it says root, try the above code again. |
Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware
when I typed root, it said not found.
|
Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware
When I typed whoami, it responded just with "user"

Once you get root, then you should be able to continue with the above command, or there's a different problem. |

Same problem, I typed the SUDO GAINROOT and the reply was "if you want to break your device enable RD mode" Then I typed whoami and I got the answer "USER", then I typed the root and got the same response " not found"

Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware
moboper, you have send me a private message but I can not reply to you via the private messaging mechanism because:
"moboper has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her." :-) So, answering you here: The instructions to turn the logging ON: http://wiki.maemo.org/Mail_For_Excha...the_logging_ON Part of the task is to install syslog which needs to have root access. "sudo gainroot" does not work for you but this is not the only way to become root. How to become root: http://wiki.maemo.org/Root_access |
