N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware

I have installed correctly the certificate and have the latest 3.xx firmware. It still will not alllow the MFE initial sync. Says communication with exchange server fails.

I have the N900. Other mail accounts work fine.

Does your Exchange server require provisioning support?

It is set up to accept non provisional devices.

That should work then. Try enabling logging on the N900 as detailed here

At what point did you get that message?

javierinclan 2010-02-17 21:47

Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware

right after I executed the # start sysklogd

Oh, right - I've never actually run this myself. Anyway, if you want the logs & to get this fixed then you're going to have to continue. I don't think there's really much of a danger - just make sure that you disable the logging again when you're finished.

I did it and went on to the next step but it says now that such a folder or file does not exist,

You've installed the sysklogd and klogd packages, rebooted, and started the sysklogd process, then you're running "cat /dev/null > /var/log/syslog"?

Ohh my, you are going to have to give me some time to digest your question. I am not technical. Let me run through the whole thing again, step by step.

Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware

I executed the sudo gainroot and then the cat/dev/null>/var/log/syslog but I got the reply: cannot create, permission denied.

Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware

Did the prompt change after you ran "sudo gainroot" (do you have the rootsh package installed)?

javierinclan 2010-02-17 22:50

Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware

it just showed the prompt again. As for the rootsh package, I do not know.

Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware

run terminal, type "root" then type "whoami"

if it says root, try the above code again.

Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware

when I typed root, it said not found.

javierinclan 2010-02-18 00:37

Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware

When I typed whoami, it responded just with "user"

Try doing the "sudo gainroot" then typing whoami.

Once you get root, then you should be able to continue with the above command, or there's a different problem.

It doesn't sound like you've got the rootsh package installed. Check in App Manager - if it appears in the download list, then install it.

Re: N900 cert. installed, MFE 2003 server still fails with new firmware

Same problem, I typed the SUDO GAINROOT and the reply was "if you want to break your device enable RD mode" Then I typed whoami and I got the answer "USER", then I typed the root and got the same response " not found"

That's because you've not installed the rootsh package.

moboper, you have send me a private message but I can not reply to you via the private messaging mechanism because:

"moboper has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her." :-)

So, answering you here:

The instructions to turn the logging ON: http://wiki.maemo.org/Mail_For_Excha...the_logging_ON

Part of the task is to install syslog which needs to have root access. "sudo gainroot" does not work for you but this is not the only way to become root.

How to become root: http://wiki.maemo.org/Root_access
