N900 not receiving (ignoring) calls
 

Hi everyone,

A family member tried to call from overseas multiple times, and I never got a ring or missed call or anything from my N900. I was told it rung through all its rings, on their side, and then went to voice mail at which point they hung up, still nothing on my end.

Alarmed, I grabbed my housemates phone and tried calling myself. I have internet connection (as if it matters?) and decent-full reception, and experience the same thing! It's ringing on their end, and evetually going to my voice mail, but no call, no missed call notification, no nothing on my phone. I even restarted my N900 and still have the same issue afterwards.

What do I do?! H4lp!

P.S. Please excuse me if I posted this in the wrong place. I'm not sure about the "BUG" procedures, and if this would even be considered one.

Try to restart the device. It's really common for me to get 'call errors' when making calls, and I frequently do not receive SMS/phone calls/voicemail if the device has been on for more than a day. A restart usually fixes it temporarily..

are you using at&t or any 2 2.5g connection?

How do you connected to internet?wireless or gsm?

I am indeed on AT$T, it says 2.5 under my reception (what exactly is the 2.5? Is that opposed to 3 or 3.5g speed connection that I'll get on T-mobile?). Right now I'm connected to our houses wireless router. I have connection set to "Dual" (I don't completely understand what the difference between GSM or 3G is :P )

Hmmm, I had the same problem before I switched to T-Mobile. 2.5 is not 3G and there is a big speed difference between those. Most importantly with 3G you can use the connection for internet and still get the phone calls/sms at the same time. I guess this is the issue you're having right now. But you said that you're connected wireless router. That's interesting. Most of the time I was listening to online radio and missing those all calls.

That's disgusting. Didn't the Iphone have this problem initially?!

Anyway, is this supposed to be expected even if i WAS on the interwebz?

This has to be handled on the carrier's side. The N900 can't see incoming calls while online to know it has to disable internet.

I used to have first generation iPhone before the N900 and it didn't have this problem.

I'm not really sure but you can test. You can listen online radio then stop it and call yourself to see if it's working. For now the best solution is switching to T-Mobile if you're not on a plan :)

Only in 2G mode! In 3G both works in parallel. That is by design.

But actually, even in 2G mode with Internet the provider may disconnect internet connection to send a call. And if you don't have it - blame AT&T, please.

If you think that this is the same as https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8887 , feel free to add a comment with some good information (steps, how often, provider, syslog).
Please avoid simple "I see this too" comments as they only create bugmail without any new info.

Im getting something similar, only happened since pr1.2 though.

My phone will be fine, then i'll look at it and I will of missed a call or two, maybe a couple of SMS's, my phone isn't on silent and everything seems fine it just doesn't ring or make any noise when texts are coming through.

A restart fixes it, but i've had to restart 3 times in 3 days now.

Hey guys iam in Trinidad And Tobago! i was experiencing the same problem not receiving calls and text and what i did is switched sim cards with another carrier and rebooted the phone left it a while and switched the sim card back and now iam good to go. I hope that this info was helpfull.
