Prog for expenses on N900?

Hi Community!
Canīt find any program for organizing my expenses. On my Treo680 I used splash money. Ok, I could install it in garnet vm but Iīd prefer a nativ solution. Anybody an idea?

There isn't any, for all I know, yet. But you have a phenomenal browser, so you might want to try some of the online solutions until someone makes such an application.

I am also looking for it. There is program Home bank in OS2008 in Office-Business section. But, that is not available for N900.

Homebank is a great looking program. I wished somebody could port it to Maemo5.

There is QT demo Mybudget..that really sucks..but it is demo hence we can not comment more on that...need fully developed program like MS Money.

I use mint.com, their standard website is very accessible as is with the n900 browser. Its nice to not have to wait for an 'app' due to this amazing browser.

edit: I notice you are in Munich I don't think mint is international unfortunately.

I think Siggy is one application for N900 used to manage personal budget such as expenses and income.

both toshl and siggy are great

siggy lets you set a budget and shows you a nice graph letting you know how are ypur spendings

toshl on the other hand lets you sync to their website to show you graphs. Also, toshl works with tags wich makes it better for me.

I think Toshl is the better option. I use it to store all my espenses and the tags options are great.

Thanks for the link to Toshl. Nice to see a profession app for Maemo on the finance side. I use Mint.com too (browser) but its a bit slow on the device and not too small screen firiendly.

Hence an app is much appreciated.

How come Toshl is not on the Nokia repos ?

Re: Prog for expenses on N900?

Toshl looks nice and it's useful for looking back at what you have used in the past, but it would be nice to input bills as they come in and get an overview of what's going out until next paycheck..
I guess it comes down to not only looking at the past, but get a heads up of whats to come..

Re: Prog for expenses on N900?

nilchak: Toshl IS in maemo repositories (so far only in extras-devel nonfree).
As for Ovi store, we were rejected because they don't allow python dependencies.

If you have problems to report or features to suggest, we have a responsive support team: Toshl on getsatisfaction

@tihi
I downloaded Toshl today. It looks nice.
Think i'm going to buy the one year pro version.
But are you going to add Norwegian kroner? It's not a very big deal since you got swedish konor..
Is there going to be added more funcions in the future?

tihi 2010-04-23 11:59

Re: Prog for expenses on N900?

Crom: I'm glad you like it :) You can set any currency you want (last option in currencies is custom currency, then you enter the three letter code of your currency - or a custom symbol if you want).

We plan to add more features, of course, that's why we gladly accept any suggestions (send an email to info@toshl.com or start a new topic on getsatisfaction.com - the link I posted previously).

Expences are all well and nice, but spent is spent. I worry more about what I'm about to spend than what I already did.

So, as I read this, your program would not help me any much today..? But, with some changes, you could add some useful budgeting functionality. More than doubles the usefulness for me.

It is basically the same as logging expences, but just doing it before they actually happen so that you can browse into the future and see what to expect the next weeks.

I'll describe the required functionality:

1) Allow people to add future expected expences.

Pretty much like you add expences today, but in the future, and should not be counted in the existing calculations.

2) Add some recurrency options.

On a future expected expence, you can add a frequency. Monthy, every 2nd month, on 1st monday/ on the 5th. Weekly, every 2nd week. This is the hardest part.

3) Take advantage of this to easy log expences.

From the list of expected future expences (sorted by date), you could then just pick one, edit it with the exact sum and the exact date, and copy/insert it into the list of actual expences, like you do today.

4) Simple sum between days. Between any given start day (i.e. the day after my next pay day) and any given end day (i.e. the end of next month) I really want to know how much recurring bills I can expect. It's pretty much the same from year to year but I am not prepared.

If you want to go advanced, you can also keep track for each bill have been paid for the current period, so that recurring bills paid today doesn't show up when I look at expected expenses for the next month.

I've looked at several programs for expences and it's really not much that needs to be added before the program can be used for budgeting also.

Why limit yourself to logging the past, when you can help people plan their futures? Would make for excellent marketing slogans! ;)

Also one thing I'd really appreciate in any budget tracking app would be the ability to track the income side too, not just expenses.

That's just my personal opinion, because I would really appreciate a more balanced view on my financial situation!

Currently, Toshl only tracks your expenses, but not your income.

Any implementation of this feature would be greatly appreciated.
