Android 2.1 Possible on N900?
Hey guys I just want to know if it possible to dual boot Android 2.1 on the N900 one day? Well 1.6 is already possible but will the 2.1 be possible as well?
I don't see why not but I'm not the guy who dual boot the Android with Maemo 5 lol. So I just asking if someone out there could port Android 2.1 to N900 for some special benefit to some proprietary applications:) |
Re: Android 2.1 Possible on N900?
Well, there's Eclair which is 2.0.
It's of course possible to boot 2.1.. you just need someone to compile the 2.1 Android for the N900 and make you an image of it. |
Re: Android 2.1 Possible on N900?
think that we should first have 1.6 ported, and then when it's fully working, try the 2.0 or 2.1 ;)

Re: Android 2.1 Possible on N900?
1.6 Donut already working well on N900.
Let's wait for 2.1 ;-) |
Re: Android 2.1 Possible on N900?
Or you could just buy an android device, if you really want android... ;)
This falls pretty much in the same category as running win 3.11 on the N900... |
Re: Android 2.1 Possible on N900?
An interesting idea, gives people more choices and the platform is maturing nicely.
However, this is a google phone which means "all your privacy are belongs to us". If an android port can function without google "spyware" then fine otherwise no thanks. |
Re: Android 2.1 Possible on N900?
is the Android 1.6 FULLY functional? I mean, if you have it on the N900 can you also install the droid apps?

Re: Android 2.1 Possible on N900?
Some of you seem to be confused...
Android will run any Android App if you can get the apk for it. It's an operating system like any other.. there is software written for it and it runs. However, Google's apps are closed source and cannot be distributed. This includes the Android Market, Maps, Youtube, Voice, Maybe even Gmail and Mail etc. These will not be possible to use because the N900 is not an official build with a license with google to have those apps. Meaning that you are limited to the apps you can get either via direct web download, or third party markets such as SlideMe. Technically, Android itself is "fully functional".. but it's not going to be the same device as you would buy that was meant to run Android. |
Re: Android 2.1 Possible on N900?
Well n900 is quiete close to motorola milestone which unofficially already support eclair ...
let me suggest to connect this thread to XDA or other android communities :-) |

As long as it can run the new HAVA/Monsoon Vulkano box, I'm good. http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/10/m...w-volcano-pla/ http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget..../volcano01.jpg |

Essentially, the applications on the phone are stored before and reloaded after the ROM install is complete. I suspect the same is done for drivers since he doesn't have rights to distribute those either. |
Re: Android 2.1 Possible on N900?
ohh ok'ay, but isn't there a way to find an archive of the google market and install it ??

Re: Android 2.1 Possible on N900?
could nokia not just get the required authorisation to use market for the n900?
I had heard that they were developing android phones (or have done already) |
Re: Android 2.1 Possible on N900?
Well for all the ney sayers, someone has already to managed to port android 2.1 on N900. It seems the guy is doing a fantastic job. I think the community should provide him with all the support he needs. Maemo is great but having the option of booting into a different OS gives N900 more flexibility. Awesome :)
