Use your maemo.org account on meego.com

It is now possible to use your maemo.org account for registering and logging into meego.com through the magic of OpenID.

Go to meego.com and click login, choose "Log in using OpenID", and enter your maemo.org OpenID URL (which you get from http://maemo.org/openid/):

maemo.org will then verify that you allow it to share your info with meego.com:

once you confirm you'll be happily logged into MeeGo services using your maemo.org identity :D

Account registration using the information provided by your OpenID provider failed due to the reasons listed below :

Use only letters a-z and/or digits 0-9 for username
That's bad!

That seems to be a limitation in either the meego.com setup or in Drupal's OpenID consumer.

I'll bring that up in tonight's IRC meeting on MeeGo's web services.

Re: Use your maemo.org account on meego.com

Hmmm.. I entered:

http://maemo.org/openid/id/cddiede

And all I get is:

Sorry, that is not a valid OpenID. Please ensure you have spelled your ID correctly.

Note that this is the maemo.org account, and not the talk.maemo.org account, so make sure you have one of those as well. You're also missing the trailing "/" that bergie had on his.

Seems to be a limitation of meego.com since even using the standard subscription I obtain the same message.

Re: Use your maemo.org account on meego.com

Thanks Rob1n, it was the lack of a trailing "/". Now I'm in.

Please ensure that you use the full URL (we're working to ensure it works with partial URLs too) in pattern http://maemo.org/openid/id/username/

If you had already registered to MeeGo website before, you can associate your existing account there with your maemo.org account in in OpenID Identities tab of My Account.

Re: Use your maemo.org account on meego.com

I dont understand this openID concept.
does this mean that if Im logged onto maemo.org then anybody can just log into my meego.com account ?
since meego.com checks the openId provider.

It simply means that MeeGo can now use your maemo.org login session (via the OpenID protocol) for registration and authentication, so you don't need to maintain your information (and passwords) in both services.

Each user has a personal URL (in format http://maemo.org/openid/id/username/) that are the ones that get connected to a meego.com account. So only you can use your maemo.org OpenID.

Here is some more information about OpenID: http://openidexplained.com/

Many thanks for this @bergie!

I've created a wiki page at MeeGo with your guidance: http://wiki.meego.com/MeeGo_Logins

Aha, nice. Is this why I could not log into maemo.org for a while today ? :-)

Does that mean we have to put in http://maemo.org/openid/id/username/ everytime we want to login to Meego?
I don't like that!

I'm going to ask meego.com admins to add a "log in via maemo.org" button there.

that's still a work-in-progress. just "maemo.org" will work in the nearest time (we will announce it separately).

p.s. and yeah, like bergie said, after that we'll be able to use special button on meego.com for one-click login

Re: Use your maemo.org account on meego.com

I'm really pleased about this. However, since I already have over a dozen OpenID accounts, it would be really nice tmo could link my current account to some of those. (For example, I use XRI sso for OpenID V 2 systems I can log in as @ahynes1 ) I would love to be able to log in that way here as well.

ahynes1 2010-02-25 19:04

Re: Use your maemo.org account on meego.com

sso update: meego appears to be handling SSO quite nicely. What I did (and would encourage others to consider doing) is:

First, I registered a regular account. This gives me a userid and password if there are ever problems.

Then, I modified my SSO setting in the account to allow me to log in with my Maemo Openid.

Also, for speed, I made it possible for me to log in with my XRI accounts.

It would be great if maemo would also allow logins with other OpenID providers.

I hope this will be there once we have the CAS in place. With the current setup where we authenticate against Garage it is unfortunately not possible.

BTW, I wrote some thoughts about moving forward with the MeeGo SSO concept.
