N800 Tmobile Internet Help Please
Hi all,
I just got my n800 and i'm loving it. Gizmo is god sent! I connect to wifi fine but i'm trying to connect using my samsung p310 as a bluetooth modem. So far i am able to pair the device just fine.. woo hoo.. but i get the error "remote server error" when it tries to connect to the net. My samsung shows an "E" icon (assuming edge because it edge capable & i have the $30 data plan). Can anyone help me figure this thing out. Thanks in advanced |

I believe when I had this problem, I needed to change the name of the access point from something like "internet2.voicestream.com" to "wap.voicestream.com". Then I had no problem.
You might need some proxy settings as well. Check out these settings (from another recent post): Access point name: wap.voicestream.com Dial-up number: *99# User name: leave blank Password: leave blank Click the [advanced] and check "Use Proxy" HTTP Proxy: 216.155.165.50 Port: 8080 HTTPS Proxy: 216.155.165.50 Port: 8080 Good luck. -F |

I think ive tried those settings... This is frustrating, impossible considering selling my p310 and getting back a nokia...

If you are paying 30$/month you should be using internet2.voicestream.com, no proxy
Do the web services work o the phone? |

Yeah web service works as far as i can tell... I just added the data for the n800.. I had tzones before and was able to browse so its hard to say..

I seem to have the same problem with the N800 and T-Mobile (USA), but in my case the phone is an HP HW-6915. I also pay about $30/month for internet service.
The T-Mobile internet connection works fine when used natively on the HP HW-6915 (web browsing, email, ssh etc) but when I try to use the smartphone as a modem for the more advanced N800 the blue tooth connection appears to work correctly but the internet does not. The HP notifies me of the blue tooth connection and asks permission to continue. But after making the connection the N800 gives up with an unhelpful message "Internet connection failed. try again?" I have wasted over 3 hours on the phone with T-Mobile customer support being walked through the process over and over ... eventually they gave up. They apologized and told me that it should work fine. But it doesn't. I have tried setting the access point to both "internet2.voicestream.com" and to "wap.voicestream.com" and a hundred other combinations. Nothing works. It seems odd that the N800 would have a menu option for connecting to T-Mobile/USA even though the option doesnt work. Any ideas??? This was the main reason for buying the n800 in the first place. I had this exact same problem, and could not get it resolved through Nokia’s tutorials, or by using any of T-Mobile’s OTA updates. I now have stumbled across a solution, purely by trial and error, and would like to share what finally worked for me. The following assumes that you have already successfully paired your N800 with your mobile phone.
In the N800’s Connectivity Control Panel, click Connections, then New [or edit your existing connection to match], name the connection “T-Mobile Internet” , and set the connection type as “Data Call”. Click next. Set the dial-up number as “*99#”, leaving all other fields on this screen blank. Click next. On the next screen click advanced. On the advanced screen click the Other tab, and in the Supplementary AT Commands field, enter “at+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet3.voicestream.com”. Click OK. Click Finish. Back at the top menu bar, click the globe icon, then select connection, and choose the connection you have just created. At this point the globe icon will begin blinking a phone icon right in front of it, and after a few moments you should see “Connected to T-Mobile Internet” in a pop-up window. Hope this helps! |

Hi all - this is my first post and I'm glad this forum exists, because I am ready to smash my forehead through this table. Perhaps you can help.
I have a new N800 and T-mobile mobile phone service and am trying to figure out how to use my mobile phone as a bluetooth modem (I have a Motorola RAZR v3). I'm having the same basic problem as the original poster, and I understand the solution, but what I cannot figure out is what service plan, or service options, I should have subscribed through T-mobile USA to make the solution work for me. Specifically, I am pretty sure I need a data plan (instead of simply a voice plan), but T-mobile's website is spectacularly unhelpful. Right now, I have a myFaves voice plan, which does not include any data options. Last night I was up until 2am trying to figure out what my T-mobile data options are. There's a $19.99/month Hotspot option, but that seems wrong. There's also the T-mobileWeb, which seems closer, but suggests that you can only access certain sites directly on the mobile phone, which is not what I'm trying to achieve. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I admit I'm not particularly tech-savvy, but I can follow directions. Thanks. |

I live near Detroit and have T-mobile phone service with 5.99 Tzone plan
I set my access point to: wap.voicestream.com Proxy: 216.155.165.50 and dial string: *99# If you have paid for tmobile internet plan, then use internet2 instead of wap and do not use a proxy. If you have paid or VPN services through tmobile, then use internet3 and no proxy Good luck, its all working for me on my razr Obviously you need to pair the phone first from the control panel |

What's the speed that you guys get from T-zones? I got 43 down and 17 up (from Speakeasy Speed Test page). Coming from Cingular's 3G, quite an adjustment I'd say.. (I used to get average 1000 down and 300 up on Cingular's MediaNet).
Oh well.. I guess you got what you pay for. At least I can check me some emails while on the road.. Hopefully T-Mobile will roll out their 3G network soon |

Ok...I just got the n810, and having major trouble pairing w/ Tmobile, via a Motorola Rizer-Z3. I've tried the connections wizard, and get the n810 to say "connected to Tzones", but the network times out.
I've also tried a new "TMobile InternetCall" per the instructions here, and the bluetooth connection is simply refused. So far, this is a complete no show...and is also about 60% of why I got the n810 in the first place. Help!? Thanx! |

Are you guys sure *99# is the right number to dia? My N800 has been using *99***1# successfully for some time w/Tmo's Unlimited plan (though that is with a Palm Treo).

Thanx for the response! Actually, I'm now running the full 19.95 internet connection (after Tmobile said t-zones was not setup as a full browser-capable service).
Still having the same problem. I'm in Chicago, and have tried setting the proxys to 216.155.165.50:8080, and no proxies. Also tried using wap.voicestream.com, internet2.voicestream.com, and internet3.voicestream.com. Am currently trying iterations and variations, but so far...nothing. Meanwhile, Tmobile has recommended their new Sony Ericcson phone, with another 2-yr signup (sigh). |

Hmm... covered everything I know of, unless it wants authentication? (No auth needed here with T-zone, and I don't think it's supposed to be needed for any of the APNs.)

Also in Chicago, but using an N800 and T-MO total internet package ($49.99), the connecton on the N800 is defined as T-Mobile Internet and the settings are *99# and internet2.voicestream.com, works all the time.

Total internet standalone was, I thought, $40, not $50; it is something like $20 as an add-on to a voice plan, but costs more standalone.

The phone need not be unlocked (well, unless it's locked to some other network), debranded, or hacked, because T-mobile does not care if you tether. Any phone supporting BT DUN (or presumably PAN, but I haven't tried that yet.)
I've got a Nokia 3555b (from T-mobile, stock) and the N800 figured out (i.e. was preconfigured with) the right settings for t-zones (which is $6 a month, unlimited, but has restrictive port filtering), except that the proxy IP was formatted wrong (leading zeros break things, evidently) and was defined for http only, though it works for https also. I've also got a plan to get a (second) battery cover and add an ExpressCard/34 slot, and try with one of these suckers. I have no guarantee this will work with Linux, as I'm coming up short on data for this particular card, but hopefully it shows up (as most do) as a serial port that speaks some extended Hayes commandset, and I can figure it out from there... If not, my laptop's got a EC/34 slot, and I'll find something else to do with the one on my N800. |

I finally have a resolution to the n810 to MotoRIZR Z3 to Tmobile issue. I'm using the Tmobile Total Internet plan (adds $19.95 to your current voice plan).
The key, for my situation, seemed to be in rebooting the phone itself. After several frustrating days of messing around with everything, I deleted the pairing on both the Z3 and n810, then re-paired them. Next, I turned OFF the phone, removed the battery and let it sit for a few minutes. After replacing the battery, and turning the phone back on, everything worked! Here's the connection that worked: Connection Name: T-Mobile Internet GPRS NEXT Access Point Name: internet2.voicestream.com Dial-up number: *99# User name and Password are left blank NEXT Advanced Proxies tab Proxies: off IP Addresses tab: Auto-retrieve IP address: checked on Auto-retrieve DNS: checked on Other tab: Allow plain text login: no check (not sure if this has any effect) Use PPP compression: CHECKED (not sure if this has any effect) Supplementary AT commands: at+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet2.voicestream.com" I was also able to speak to 'Zak' at Tmobile who actually had the "AT" script and setting info (as above). Nothing worked. We were, both rather frustrated, when we hung up. Then, I thought..."here's something I haven't tried, yet" and did the MotoRIZER battery removal, which rebooted the phone, and it all came alive!
