qypy - alpha available
Hi
Qypy is a maemo application for qype service. Qype provides reviews on many places like restaurant, bars, hotels... Qypy is a very fresh application. Actually, it has been tested by only some french users. So, there are some bugs. Some screenshots : http://david.hautbois.free.fr/qypy/qypy-01.png http://david.hautbois.free.fr/qypy/qypy-02.png http://david.hautbois.free.fr/qypy/qypy-03.png http://david.hautbois.free.fr/qypy/qypy-04.png http://david.hautbois.free.fr/qypy/qypy-05.png http://static.maemo.org/style_maemo2...on_install.png Thanks for your feedback. David. |

Re: qypy - alpha available
People might be sceptical of adding yet another repository/catalog to their devices. You'd probably see better results if you added it to extras-devel then promoted to extras-testing. At least, that's what's keeping me from installing it. Otherwise, it seems like a very cool application.

Re: qypy - alpha available
Ok, it's now in extras-devel.

Re: qypy - alpha available
It doesn't work. when I click on the near by me nothing happens and then the application stops working.
what am I doing wrong? |
Re: qypy - alpha available
Does the gps fix ? (is the gps indicator blinking ?)
Run it in xterm : qypyapp Is there error messages ? Sometime, qype.com take time to reply.... |
Re: qypy - alpha available
great application, I love Qype.
one issue though, does anyone else have lockups of the application after clicking on "near by me" ? The first time I invoke the program, all worked fine. After that, starting it again, and choosing the "near by me" button, I had to kill the application. The close button doesn't work. Completely stuck. Update : Aaah, after long time I'm getting a HTTP error 504:Gateway timed out. Maybe the paid wifi hotspot I'm using here has broken the connection, requiring to logon again. That's a point of improvement for the program then, don't wait 'blindly' on an HTTP response but allow the processing of all incoming events, and maybe put something on screen saying you're making contact with the Qype server or so, so people know what's happening. Update 2 : the wifi is still ok, so that's not the issue ... Maybe timing problems on the Qype server side ? Another thing, I installed (by accident) from your repository. Will your rep. also be kept up to date ? Or will all your new versions go only to Extra-Devel ? Anyway, thanks for the tool. Very usefull here in London :) Update : It now works again, after rereading I see more people have the same bad behaviour. Maybe server issue ? GPS fix is fine, no problem there. |
Re: qypy - alpha available
You can remove my repository from your device.
Qypy is actually in extras-testing. Next updates will be done in maemo repositories. I should add a waiting indicator, instead of a non responding window. Thanks for Your feedback. |
Re: qypy - alpha available
it works if i run the app from xterminal......thanks.
I can click on the icon as well...hmm. maybe a server issue. would it be posible to make a copy function. To copy the address etc. |
Re: qypy - alpha available
Try again from the app launcher...
|
Re: qypy - alpha available
It works fine from app launcher :-)
Did you see my comment about a copy function (page 1)? Is it posible to copy the address? |
Re: qypy - alpha available
-> added to my todo list....
|
Re: qypy - alpha available
Thanks for packaging. I'm installing it now, and wil give my impressions.
update: application fails to load with an import error: Code:
ImportError: No module named osso update 2: Please update the dependency list. This app requires: python-osso python-dbus Thanks |
Re: qypy - alpha available
Il will add these dependencies
|
Re: qypy - alpha available
Thank you for this app and all your effort!
It works fine on mine device! there is one thing I would really love, but I don't know hoe difficult it is to implement. I'd like to save places as POIs on a local map like nokia maps or mapper or meap. or maybe any other way of storing my favourite places online on a map? This just came to my mind. Sorry if this is a noobish wish. Anyway, go on! |
Re: qypy - alpha available
Qypy is dead. but Maemo admins don't want remove it from repositories.
Now it's Libellule. It will support Yelp, Qype and Yahoo local search. Yelp and Qype ask me to make some modifications. Since I do it, they don't reply to me emails..... So, I will probably release Libellule only with Yahoo. Some screenshots : http://david.hautbois.free.fr/temp/libellule/ http://maemofr.org/node/1136 |
Re: qypy - alpha available
Thanks for the work. I look forward to the app and hope you will hear from yelp soon...

I asked Niels (X-Fade) if he saw your original email to maemo-developers. He didn't. A small prod in its direction and qypy's removed. I'd suggest in future a follow up email to niels@maemo.org to be appropriate if you don't get an immediate reply. HTH, Andrew |
Re: qypy - alpha available
It's not malice
http://lists.maemo.org/pipermail/mae...ch/025326.html http://lists.maemo.org/pipermail/mae...ch/025413.html Because Kerthan had some difficulties to remove his packages from reporitories, I didn't insist. I will send an email to Niels. Edit: I didn't notice the message from David Greave saying to talk to Niels |
Re: qypy - alpha available
Sorry I missed the request, these are busy times. Was certainly not ignoring you on purpose. :)
