Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
Copied this from maemo-freak:
Thursday, 04 March 2010 10:31 Good folks from the Nokia Maps Team just announced the very first release of Nokia Map Loader for maemo devices. Just like the version for Symbian devices, Nokia Map loader for N900 allows you to simply sideload maps to your phone directly from Nokia maps server through your computer, rather than over the air which is especially useful if you are planning on travelling to a new area you are unfamiliar. This way, you can save a lot on your mobile data service costs and save time downloading map data over-the-air as you go. With maps for more than 150 countries worldwide, there’s a lot of data available for download for FREE and with Map Loader whole procedure will be faster, cheaper and simpler! MapLoader allows you to download map data for whole countries or areas, so that you don’t need to use data connection on the road. Procedure is quite simple, download and install Map Loader to your PC, then download maps and places you need to and finally transfer it to Nokia Maps on your mobile device. http://www.nokiausa.com/get-support-...d#/nokia-n900/ |
Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
Great... but where is the free Nokia Maps 3.x with voice navigation for N900?
edit: *For your Nokia N900 use Mass storage mode. -DONE Msg from app: You have connected at least one phone in mass storage mode. Reconnect your phone and select pc suite mode. Map loader version: 3.0.28.0 |
Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
That's nothing new;)
I've allready loaded the maps I need before a month or so. |
Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
Looks very interesting. I am downloading my data now. Hope this works :-)
|
Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
I've just checked the size & md5sums and this file is exactly the same as the Nokia Map Loader v3.0.28.0 previously available, so nothing new here.

Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
And still not working...
|
Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
Yep, not working at all.
ok, to be fair: I'm using OSX, 10.4.11. Non-operation was to be expected. Happily I also have the maps copied already, so this is just info for those who have a similar PC. |

Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
do a forum search, there's lots of info on how to make map loader work on n900 - XP works out of the box, but IIRC you have to run vista 64 bit in XP compatibility mode for it to work. Worked fine for me on XP when I did it a while back, but I think only USB mode is supported for n900 (ignore the prompt objecting to it). Oh, and bring a good book to occupy you - the d/l & transfer for Europe took ~2 hours to complete :-)

Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!

Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
the.pf file is hidden (. means hidden file in Linux) you have to copy it over the XTerminal.
|
Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
No... It's not there... not even hidden.. ls -a -> no .qf
|
Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
It file create after first run of Nokia maps. It's too bad If you don't have it after run. May be your file system is detroyed? What show mount command? Have you string
/dev/mmcblk0p1 on /home/user/MyDocs type vfat in out? |
Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
found a .qf in /home/user/MyDocs/.maps however copying it to /home/user/MyDocs/.maps/qf or /home/user/MyDocs/qf isn't helping

Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
The file qf must be placed in /home/user/MyDocs (root of PC visible part of file system)

Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
pretty sure this:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=38872 or this: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...&highlight=.qf will contain answers for most issues. I also seem to remember that if your local install is missing files/folders for any reason, you can just delete it entirely and it will be recreated (without any cached/downloaded data, naturally) when you next run Ovi maps. That may help get you to a clean starting point? But I just downloaded map loader, connected n900 in USNB mode, and then followed the on-screen prompts, no need for any messing with .qf (or anything else). |
Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
the map loader works under Windows XP, does not work with 7 (not sure about vista), i have tried both of them. And also, n900 user needs to use mass storage mode.

Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!

Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
This message say that Nokia Map Loader don't find the correct file qf in root device.
Mass storage mode need for devices with maps saved on external cards. N900 save maps on internal drive |

Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
place correct the file "qf" to /home/user/MyDocs dir.
|
Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
Still none of this is working for me. Not on my XP Desktop, not on my Win7 Laptop, not with card, not without card, neither in mass storage nor in PC Suite mode..

Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
Try next steps on windows 7:
1. Unload PC Suite from memory 2. remove all from dir C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Nokia\PCSync\SynchData 3. Run last version of PC Suite. 4. Connect N900 in PC Suite mode 5. Look to \My Computer\N900 (PC-Suite Mode)\Data dir (see you file qf?) 6. Run Map Loader |
Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
n900 is actually a computer. why nokia cant make a map loader as a maemo apps so we can download map over the air via wifi.
|
Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!

2. Run terminal and type: cp /home/user/MyDocs/.qf /home/user/MyDocs/qf 3. Connect to PC in PC Suite Mode and look \My Computer\Nokia N900\Data dir. |
Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
FWIW, the downloadable USA map set has 50 states plus Puerto Rico, but no District of Columbia. Is DC part of Maryland for Maps purposes?
|
Re: Map Loader For Maemo Devices Announced!
I've noticed that I can now get a GPS lock pretty quickly (<1min) without a data connection after updating with the map loader. Anyone else notice this?
