[Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
Update:
New version of the Flip Calendar was released to the extras repository and rolled out through the auto update.. Changes in version 1.0-4 Latest version of the Flip Calendar has a full month view pop up calendar display ( with auto color theme, matching the applet theme colors). This full month view calendar pop up can be initiated by double clicking on the Flip Calendar desktop applet The pop up full month view window inherits the color scheme of the "Day" font from desktop calendar widget. ( see img below) ++++++ ------------------------- ++++++ Announcing the release of Flip Calendar, a resizeable desktop calendar widget, that displays the Month, Date and day of the week. Installation : Install from the maemo.org download section from here or look for flip-calendar in the extras repository under Application Manager. The color and font style can be changed by going to Home > Applet Settings > FlipCalendar. After selecting/changing the color, double click on the widget surface for the changes to take effect immediately. Else changes will get reflected after a minute. The calendar widget is resizeable. Hold on to the right hand side bottom edge of the widget and drag to resize.. The calendar background and the fonts get resized automatically. Flip Calendar is skinnable.. You can find a themes folder under /usr/lib/flipcalendar.. Select the color of the calendar theme and copy the file into the folder named 'default' and restart the Flip Calendar widget from Home > Select Applets ( remove tick mark for Flip Calendar and say okey - from the same path put the tick mark again).. As always, since pictures talk more than words... http://static.maemo.org/static/6/693...reenshot00.png http://i49.tinypic.com/2a98zgo.png Limitations - Pango layout is being used for date display and hence if a font size is selected from the drop down on Home > Applet Settings > FlipCalendar settings, this will be overriden. - Some of the unicode fonts may result in the letters over flowing out of the calendar surface ## Edit ## Okey.. I think I was wrong about this working on N900.. apparently the screen shot I posted earlier was that of a N810 with a modified UI look alike of Maemo 5 - This widget is only for diablo at the moment.. Maemo5 may happen ( I dont have a n900 :o ) |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
nice APP!
hey curious to know....at you second screenshots uphere....what is exactly this http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/4812/clockf.jpg tx to tell me how i can get this same one.:o |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
thats a desktop clock widget I am working on, as a sequel to the SVGClock I released a while ago.
will try to release soon. Its based on the ring clock screenlet |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
wow i want it lol
lety me know when is ready... |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
Very cool release you did for yourself there shin!
Many thanks indeed! Oh, and just to let the rest of you guys know, Flip will accept any 128x128 .png image in that default folder. http://img682.imageshack.us/img682/6...0031002030.png So yeah, it's definitely good to still be seeing you around this forum, shin. :) |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
I just got a feedback that the Flip Calendar works on Maemo 5 too..
I think I was wrong about the Flip Calendar working on N900 already.. However created with PyGTK, Cairo, Pango and glade, technically it should work. Has anyone here with a N900 installed it? How did you install it (using .deb?) . Appreciate if you could give your feedback on if the resizing, font and color changes work . Any screenshots would also help |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
Hey shin, think you could post a 128x128 invisible image for us to use with this?
I'd like to try it without a background graphic and see how that looks on the desktop. :) Thanks! |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
installed to n900 without problems but haven't got the applet to appear to desktop even how hard I've tried...

Well, I managed to find one on the net and cropped it down to the right size.
If anyone wants to have their calendar appear without a background graphic, just right click and save the image between the two **** thingies. ****Attachment 8051**** |

In diablo it is hildondesktop.HomeItem and in Maemo 5 this seems to be hildondesktop.HomePluginItem.. There seems to be a couple of differences like these to be addressed, before i can make it work on n900.. I will try to refactor the code for Maemo 5 when possible.. Can you tell me something.. What ever is the equivalent of N810/diablo for Home > Applet Settings > FlipCalendar in n900.. Is Flip calendar appearing in that widget launch area and are you able to see the GTK color, font selection screens? I would assume that these should work.. Appreciate your time and interest to check this out.. |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
there is a small enhancement being worked on for the Flip Calendar. This would enable a full month view calendar ( with week numbers) on desktop as in the image below..
Double-clicking on the Flip calendar applet will spawn the full month view calendar.. Its in the extras-devel now and should be in extras by tomorrow http://i39.tinypic.com/106f4b7.png |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
Works great shin. Thanks!
Not all too sure what the point is of really using this, but it's nice to have nonetheless. :) Hey, possible favor request? I don't think I'll ever reach the point of trusting Flip Clock Beta with it's alarm issues so I still use the one that comes with Diablo since it never once caused an issue on my end. Anyway, do you think you could code a simple feature to have either SVG Clock or Flip Calendar go directly to Applications -> Clock -> Alarm -> Alarms directly via shortcut for one of these two apps? That's probably my only suggestion on making either one of your releases to be a little more "functional". Cheers bud. |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
Addison thanks for testing from the extras-devel..
Quote:
The only 2 ways I knew of getting this was - Control panel > Date & Time > Click the calendar icon to change date ( downside - click on a date and the system date is changed) - Use Zenity Calendar through personal menu So I thought it would be good to have this full month view calendar part of the Flip Calendar applet.. On your query about Alarm settings to be accessed easily, not sure if you already knew about the Desktop status bar applet for this.. go to Control Panel > Panels > "Status Bar" tab and put a check mark on Alarm option This will give you an Alarm icon on the Status bar, that gives direct access to the Alarm settings.. I will try to integrate this functionality into the SVGClock.. |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget

I took the flipcalendar-1.2 source and changed the code to make it runable in maemo 5. Would you like to take this code and build a package ? |

So, what about skins for this pop-up full calendar? Can you make it looks more similar to the FlipCalendar applet or it can be only like a “window”? |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget

Yes, having skins for this pop up window is an option, but this could make the desktop heavy, particularly if you have other desktop applets active resulting in bad response times.. However if you notice, there is some amount of skinning, coloring achieved in the otherwise dry gtk calendar widget. The pop up window inherits the color scheme of the "Day" font from desktop calendar widget. So if you set the "Day" font color matching the theme color of the Calendar.png on your Flip Calendar widget, the pop up calendar window will also inherit this color scheme ( look at the updated image in the first post) |

@nicolai.. PMed you on this..

Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
Yeah, treating your clock and calendar like power launch icons would be nice. :)
I know about the status bar alarm clock, but that only shows if you already have an outstanding alarm present and that immediately goes away once it's triggered. For the calendar, there's Seqretary, GPE Calendar, mCalendar, Den in the USA made mention to something of a Google Calendar app (?) that he installed somehow (I should look that up), I also have a really great Greasemonkey script to show the Google Calendar webpage in full screen mode without any menus and junk, it's actually very nice (Kozzi helped me with the script for it). http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=33947 Anyway, being able to have either some command line or option as to what your calendar shortcuts to would be good if you feel the same way about it. But yeah, I thought that would better integrate your two apps with the desktop environment using the least amount of additional coding needed for them. Cheers! |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
@shin
But it could make the desktop heavy only then you trying to launch the calendar... Any way, I think it has to looks the similar to the applet, but now it looks like two different applications. P.s. actually I think nobody waits from you the full PIM, I just want to know what date of month was lust Sunday... |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
Calendar Borgized!
TX to shin and Addison for app and tip! http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/5593/screenshot11s.png any way to put the DAY more far from Date cause like you see...my DAY marks be hidding by DATE marks... any clue? |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
Try changing your font.
I'm using Sans Bold which looks very good. With your bizzaro theme though, maybe try a Terminus font instead. Cheers. |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
Finaly i make my own font derived from orbital lol
cheers! http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/5619/borgdesktop.gif |

Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
So shin, any intention of releasing new widgets from ya? :)
Oh, and is it possible to incorporate this into flip? http://gnome-look.org/content/show.p...content=122757 It's using the same default graphic so I was wondering if it shared similar coding with it. |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
One more thing, could I get flip to launch mcalendar instead of yours?
If so, what needs to be edited in /usr/lib/flipcalendar/prefs.glade? |
Re: [Announce] Flip Calendar, a desktop calendar widget
Hello... I know this thread is quite a bit old... but I am interested to download the flip calendar but couldn't find it anymore. Can anyone tell me where else I can find it? Thank you in advance. :)
