TV out cable too short? How to extend?
I find that the tv out cable is too short to use with my hdtv. So what is the best and cheap extender for the bundled tv out?
Thanks |

Re: TV out cable too short? How to extend?
I believe that you can use any cinch extender. I recently used one for audio and it worked flawlessly.
Edit: For what it's called see here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RCA_jack |

Haha, nice picture of an old RCA radio in that link!

Re: TV out cable too short? How to extend?
Removed wrong information about using 3.5mm extension.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TRS_connector Having a closer look it seems that a normal stereo plug is different than the plug used with the TV cable. A stereo plug contains 2 rings, the TV cable 3. |

If you tell radio shack what your doing they will show you what you need. Radio shack has the cables in many lengths and I am sure they also carry the gender benders http://rsk.imageg.net/graphics/produ...925475w345.jpg http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=3909649 |
Re: TV out cable too short? How to extend?
Ok.. So you could actually use a TRRS extension cord as well. Though I believe those could be rare.
For visualisation see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:IP...udio_plugs.JPG A normal stereo plug has only 2 noticable rings and the TV cable has 3 rings. |
Re: TV out cable too short? How to extend?
when you go to radioshack just look for rca couplers and a length of rca cable you want. bestbuy probably doesnt carry them and male to female rca cables are hard to find.

Re: TV out cable too short? How to extend?
Thank you all. But this is still confusing. Can anyone point me to a single link from amazon?
Thanks |
Re: TV out cable too short? How to extend?
I think the confusion is coming (unintentionally) from chainreaction. His comments would lead you toward a replacement cable with greater length.
Go with Penguinbait's last post for the clearest, easiest solution, and one you could use for other purposes should the need arise. |

RADIO SHACK HOUSTON-THE PARK #01-8050 THE PARK IN HOUSTON CENTE 1200 MCKINNEY STE 391 HOUSTON, TX 77010 Phone: (713) 652-9070 but there are many OTHER locations I called this store in Houston. they carry the RCA coupler Part # 274-898 $5.99 Then you just need the standard RCA cable which they also carry for about 10$ for 6 feet. I can't make it any easier for you :D:D:D |
Re: TV out cable too short? How to extend?
Yeah, sorry about confusing you too much. To be honest just ignore my comments and go with Penguinbait's suggestion. :)

Re: TV out cable too short? How to extend?
And I suggest you should not pay overprice for those "extra high quality" cables. If you buy extra long cables (more than 10 meters) then it MIGHT make some difference. Remember that longer the cable you buy the more noise you will get in the audio and video signal. Just get the necessary length you really require.
Just by searching "RCA cable" and "RCA adapter" in amazon.com it seems that the cable and an adapter can be obtained for five dollars or so. |
